As great as this would be, those guards were not actually proper royal guards. Rather simple guardsmen that the new emporer had quickly designated to guard his chamber and clad in the red robes. These ones are better trained and specialized as they exist at a later time in the empire. I mean, it's possible, but unlikely.

Tarkin eventually figured out by his own reasoning that Darth Vader was Anakin, and once he did their relationship improved. Tarkin had respected Anakin.

@@Deathmare235 Nah, non-clone officers served alongside them in the Republic army and navy. They were graduates of military academies. Tarkin was an officer with the Judicials before switching to the Republic's navy.

@Silent Firefly nah Tarkin knew that Vader was Anakin at that point in the timeline, he suspected much earlier but came to find out it was true later on
They were not “rivals”… They had a strong mutual respect for one another. Tarkin was one of the few that Vader held in high regard.
Feels like Palp never really wanted Anakin, Robot Chicken shorts really feels like that’s how Palpatine really feels about Vader.

He wanted Anakin, not Vader.
Sidious actually believed Anakin would surpass him and become the most powerful sith. He said as much when fighting that one guy in the movie. Shame Obi-Wan *cough* _disarmed_ that dream.

Seeing as Palpatine is quite capable of defending himself (as well as being able to sense threats that lie beyond the reach of sight and hearing), it seems that the imperial guards' primary roles are 1) to create a sense of pomp and ceremony, and 2) to serve as metaphorical drywall every time that someone needs to make a dramatic show of violence. What a great career.
Or 3) Cannon fodder lol
During their health and safety training, they learn how to properly pass out when force pushed.
They take care of the LIGHT work
3) Keep up appearances of an old politician that can be easily assassinated, thus enticing traitors to reveal themselves, expecting an easy fight.
I would assume it’s more so that palpatine doesn’t have to do anything or expose himself as the evil force user type guy he is

The power difference between the imperial guards and republic guards is substantial.

This was deliberate on Palpatine's part, and part of how he used Vader as a tool of control.
People knew Vader's name.
People knew Vader's reputation.
But what people didn't know, is what Vader LOOKED LIKE.
When the Emperor was angry, he would send Vader. If he was feeling generous, he would warn you about it.
But you didn't know what ship he was on, or when he was coming, or what he looked like... did the Emperor tell you before sending Vader, or shortly before he was due to arrive?
But you knew his name, his reputation, and you didn't know which Imperial ship he was on, which person was Vader. Every unfamiliar Imperial Officer arriving was a terror. Every fresh Imperial vessel brings horror with it. All from the uncertainty of Vader's presence.
Until he arrived. And then you knew. And you would never forget. Not for the rest of your life... which, if Vader was there specifically to see YOU... was not a lengthy task.

Tbh, this would make for an awesome video game concept. It starts just after Revenge of the Sith just like the comics. You were just revived and kept barely alive with junk and spare parts. Nobody knows who you are yet, you don't even have a lightsaber. But you gradually work your way up, upgrading your armor, lightsaber and Force powers until you're finally at the level of Vader as he was in the OT and are feared throughout the galaxy.

I did not expect the emotionally dead inside Tarkin to react with so much fear like that to just a slightly battle damaged Vader.
Some Star Wars comics make really odd decisions. Tarkin should have been more stoic, like he was in the movies when he mocked the idea of retreating. And why is Darth Vader randomly attacking the Emperor's guards?
The writer is trying too hard to make Darth Vader cool.

I do believe they are trained to take on jedi. Not really jedi masters, but padawans and possibly jedi knights.
@@leonlacroix2638 Actually, according to the Star Wars Wiki, they undergo a similar training to what would be later known as Inquisitors. So they are very capable of taking on Jedis.
@@ValkynShade yeah thats essentially what I said, they are skilled enough to take on a jedi, or a padawan, but much more experienced jedi wold have issues. For example when yoda came to see Palpatine during clone wars. Yoda took out two with a force push.

I remember reading somewhere that Tarkin thought that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker.
He eventually put it all together and realized Anakin was Vader.

There is a line from Epusode IV that has had me wonder about the hierarchy of the Empire. Leah scowls at Tarkin saying, "I was wondering who was holding Vadder's leash. " Vader is known at this point, and seems that he is subservient to a Grand Moff.
If I remember correctly Vader normally outranks Tarkin in military matters unless he is on the death star in which Tarkin outranks him
I always thought in episode 4 that Tarkin was one of the few (if only) ones that Vader would actually listen to. I think the comics made it more of a rivalry.

From the movies and new canon novels and comics, Tarkin and Vader developed a huge amount of respect for each other. Tarkin was one of the few that knew Vader's identity and was allowed to live.

I remember when I found out why Tarkin found it easy to adjust to the Emperor's corruptivity. He had always been that evil and immoral, even when the Empire was the Republic. In order to not be relieved of his duty he had to hide most of his true self, but it was clearly not enough to hide from Anakin who felt that something was off about him when they first met. You can find this information by watching Star Wars the Clone Wars: The Citadel.

Was Vader allowed to beat up or kill on the spot the high ranking officers that disrespected him? I always got the feeling that Empire was ruled by strenght, and it always felt weird and wrong that Tarkin could dare to give orders to Vader. When i first watched Ep.4 i was expecting Vader to execute Tarkin as an example to the other officers in the room, after he ordered him to release that other officer from his force choke.

@@user-qb1fo7nq2g even up until he died he was still an apprentice. But he was considered a Sith Lord the moment he took on the name Lord Vader given to him by Palpatine himself in Revenge of the Sith. I just checked he was already a Sith Lord by the end of that movie which is still Canon

If one of the greatest Sith of all time calls you a Sith and addresses you as “Lord”, pretty sure that makes you a Sith Lord. Did he ever address Maul or Dooku as “Lord” in the movies?
Brian Escobedo you need to learn the ways of the Sith to be a complete Sith.
The thing about Star Wars for me is that I love watching these channels that talk about the lore and extended universe, but I'm not a fan at all of the main media like the movies and games. Star Wars has such a cool universe that in my opinion has not been utilized to its fullest in the current canon. It's a shame Disney had to make all the EU stuff non-canon, because as a Star Wars fan who's really not that into Star Wars, it's all the stuff that surrounds the canon that's the best to me.
