why musicians love Bocchi the Rock

  • Bocchi the rock successfully did something almost no other media about musicians has done, it understood musicians. Counterintuitive right? It's remarkable how many shows about musicians don't properly capture what it's like to be a musician. Bocchi the rock is not one of those shows.

Interesting fact: I believe when Kita's VA gave that nervous vocal performance, it was completely genuine because the voice director sprung on her last minute that they would use the first take no matter what and she got super nervous.

As an introverted musician who struggles to connect with other people, Bocchi The Rock was absolutely phenomenal. It’s one of the only shows where I feel like I can actually relate to the characters on a personal level, which allowed me to truly enjoy the show. It’s also so refreshing to see musicians portrayed in a realistic way, no one is just given the talent if being a great musician, and everyone makes at least some mistakes, especially under intense pressure. It really makes the show even more relatable than it already was

As a 20 old year who just started learning guitar and finished bochi the roch , it is my favourite anime now.

This show really connects to me. I've always admired music, it really made a big portion of my childhood and I remember learning multiple instruments at a young age. I've always wanted to form a band but my friends and colleagues weren't as interested in making music as I. As time flew by, I deviated in music and went into engineering, which I'm currently studying right now. I can tell that what I'm learning isn't cut out for me, but I've already invested too much time into it so it's too late to change career pathways. This anime is pretty much my fanfiction if I decided to stick to music, so I loved every second of it. Didn't expect their music to be a cherry on top too

Musicians here are portrayed so well. I used to be in my school's rock band as a guitarist in high school and the feelings that Bocchi portrays are so relatable. From the before and after's of the performance, the anxiety (I used to have stage fright), the feelings, the loud heartbeat when you know it's about to start, the practice times, and the non-verbal communication between the band members. It is SO well done and I am so glad that musicians are shown how they are realistically. So many of my friends I know (who perform and play instruments) can relate to this show very, VERY well and I would like to mention that this anime is probably my favorite by now 😭

Another thing that I was blown away by was how they added Hiroi jamming along with Bocchi outside. Improvising, expecting, and learning as the song goes on. The exact opposite of Ryou.

Being a drummer in bands this show was very relatable- namely episode 8. I've stumbled and messed up on stage but once you get in the groove youre in it. Im also somewhat introverted so I can relate to bocchi and her mannerisms. Also the feel of being on stage from the anime and doing it myself is very on point. Love this anime!

It's also the little things. If you isolate guitar tracks on the song "That band", you can hear how the singer/guitarists track is much more SIMPLE than Bocchi's... because she has to sing at the same time so it's utilitarian and simplified to serve the purpose but to make it easier to sing a well as play... and when she DOESN'T sing there are few more complex flourishes because now she can focus on those parts so there's less risk of missing... and when singing comes back, the guitar part goes back to very simple and utilitarian.
It's those small details and the series is stock full of small stuff like this all over the place.

can you review Blue Giant movie, it is about jazz and its a hidden gem, I watched it when it released in the US in Septemper 2023 but it originally released in febuary in japan I think, but the story is about a ambitious jazz musician who wants to be the greatest sax player and you follow his story of his journey through the jazz world. There is a ton of passion put into this movie and I am sad not many people know about this movie as it is very poorly advertised and I want to spread the greatness of this movie. This is video is about musician love for Bocchi the Rock and this is a tangent I just wanted someone who enjoyed Bochi the Rock would maybe like Blue Giant. :)

I don’t personally relate to the story very much at all, but I 100% understand what you mean about how music is represented, because it stuck out to me as well. I get incredibly annoyed at other shows for simply not respecting the effort that goes into playing music, the anxiety you feel going on stage and how things go wrong. As fun as it was, the recent Girls Band Cry is a good example of this (girl who has never particularly practiced singing, never mind performed, is instantly a terrific singer) and it kills my emotional investment. Bocchi on the other hand blew me away when the first performance really was crappy in a realistic way, when they aren’t just an instant success, and their abilities match their investment.

Bocchi really spoke to me because of her character. I was always an introvert even though I wanted to make friends and always saw myself as "not good enough" like Bocchi. Similar to her, I also took my guitar to school in hopes someone would talk to me so it had me hooked from the start.
It's really weird to me how many shows I watch as a musician LOOK like they're for for musicians but are just "about" them instead. Bocchi is such a phenomenal series and I hope we get a season 2 and onward because it would be great to see

I have always had an interest in learning guitar. roughly 10 years ago when I first watched K-on I even got myself very, VERY cheap electric guitar. but just didn't have the drive to actually learn. Bocchi the Rock ended up being the one that got me to finally pick it up for real. I have been practicing nearly everyday now since early may of this year. Bocchi very quickly became my favorite show because of this. But also, I only realized I was the target audience for this show after watching it. I was unaware that I had social anxiety. Which I have been actively working on improving since

I wanted to know what are people's thoughts on it
I'm sure whatever my opinion is will not be as well-informed as others so I'd like to hear some quick ones in the responses below :-)

Nodame Cantabile has musical "geniuses" but it also shows that hard work, luck, and networking is necessary to do well in professional/academic classical music.

You keep pronouncing it like "bow-chee," but it should be more like "bottchi," with a sharper "tch" sound and shorter vowels.

When I first saw BtR I decided that it was the one show that I will never watch the dubbed version. Girls und Panzer, Lycoris Recoil, and many more... sure, I've hunted down dubbed versions of those, but never Bocchi.
