So smart to generate the 3D print to check for size! I will definitely be doing that on future projects now.
What a brilliant way to recycle broken hardware 👍 Thanks for sharing, Becky!
Thank you!!
You could scan the membrane keypad and follow the traces to find where the buttons go since it's see through.
This is so rad! I recently tore down my own PS controller, with the intention of doing some kind of custom electronics project. But then I chickened out once I saw the inside, and shelved the project. This video was really helpful, and inspired me to maybe pick up my project again. Great work :)
Do it!!! 😀

Impressive. Bringing back the core of what music's about. Experimenting! This might send me down a rabbit hole
You have an incredible channel. I hope it grows tremendously!
Absolutely brilliant idea
Impressive build! Amazing how you were able to design a new board that fit all the existing landscape.
Thank you! Cheers!
Cool project! I like how you made a breakout board as a test before going to the fully integrated board. Taking a step towards the final design but also getting a useful board for other projects in the process. Can't wait to see more! Keep it up! 👍
Thank you!
Holy snacks! Thanks for sharing, I had a similar idea a few years ago but didn't know how to make it happen. The only other thing I'd thought of was putting a small screen so you also have a visual interface. Again, thank you!
That's a good idea! Maybe replace or augment the big home button with a tiny oled or something... glad you find it helpful!
I am so glad I found your channel. I have a 10 year old daughter who has taken a liking to my hobbies fixing retro gaming machines and I have been slowly teaching her how to solder and do simple fault-findings on circuits and she loves it. She is going to love your channel!
Thank you Becky
Thank you.
This is super cool.
this is awesome in so many ways!
Thanks Matt!
Love me some Becky Stern. Awesome project!
Thank you!
i just discovered this channel. its amazing.
Thank you! Welcome!
Great work Becky 💝🤘
Hello, excellent video, do you think that the board you designed could be used to create an arcade board and that it works on ps4?
Love your content and effort.my PS4 controllers motherboard is not working and I want to fix it and connect it to my PC like new and play games what should I do?
pro soldering!! nice job:)
pretty good idea tbh, been thinking of making a custom controller for RC projects, I might addopt this idea (gonna use an xbox controller though), cheers for the video!
love a good repair project
Just stumbled across this video and I gotta say its really cool. I wanted to use my mostly functional ps5 controller for some other DIY custom electronics but I have no idea what I can make that isn't just another controller. Any ideas please?
Great job Becky! literally, you're the only one who tried to solve ps4 dead controller motherboard, do you have any updates with the final version?
All those satisfying buttons arranged in such an ergonomic way - would be a shame to let controllers go to waste. I just can never quite think of what to use them for.
Found you from the secret Santa video, but this is the video that did it for me! Great job this is really really cool!
I use the guitar hero plastic guitars to build analog synthesizer in them..then you can plug it into a guitar amp and play it. I give each neck button a tuning knob..I instal 6 tunable oscillators using a 40106 ic chip
Damn that’s cool! Cheers Becky
Thank you Ben! ⚡️
Just saw this today and had a question, couldn't you have soldered wires to where the flexible membrane touches the board to make regular push button or toggle switches instead of the flexible membranes buttons
This was a nice video! 😀
Thank you! 😁
Any time!
Cool!
This is just really cool, I dunno what else to say
Sick
I like your videos
So, how does a PS4 controller get bricked?... And how much does it cost to get a custom circuit board made?
I wish I knew but I've had several stop taking a charge/turning on over the years, both PS brand and aftermarket off-brands. It costs surprisingly little to have custom circuit boards made, and pricing depends on your board specs.
@@BeckyStern Ahh. I knew I made a good choice to step away from consoles after PS3. It's probably just cheaper components, most likely. $50 price tag for a controller, but $5 worth of parts.
I'd buy several of these Breakout Board kits but there's no postage option available for Australia 🇦🇺
... so now I'm sad 😟
Shipping from the USA to Australia is expensive and uses a lot of fuel, so I only ship to North America. However, I provide the design and gerber files, so you can easily get your own boards printed from a close-by PCB manufacturer and get cheaper shipping than having me ship the boards across the pacific ocean twice. It's especially cost-effective for you if you want several! jlcpcb.com/
You should have used an ESP32 and a Charge Controller IC. No need to modify the controller housing. and it's wireless like it used to be!
Modifying the controller USB port hole to USB C and having all them wires to a USB-C breakout would look much cleaner with a stock look.
My design is open source, please feel free!
@@BeckyStern Nice! Thank you :)
How to repair broken lines on my ps4 controller board
Will be really cool if work again in ps4 :(
I have a unic problem with a ps4 controller... it wont connect to console but it will work on a PC.. console 100% working with other controller...
Aw mahn, I wish I was a quarter as clever: after years of service my PS4 controller died after I spilled cold coffee on it and I've taken it apart and can't work out why it's failed but I'm sure it's something simple for someone that knows what they're doing 😅
Ps4 frankenstein🤣
nice read hade dream woman
Bad a$$
I've bought 5 controllers because they are garbage engineered to fail. Anti Trust shit
