When nurses can just take NCLEX and be able to work in States and Canada, why not a physiotherapist? After all, all are considered as front line workers! CAPR is making millions of revenue out of the OSCE and Written components from all these Physiotherapy students and still they claim to be in “loss” and running out of budget. When USA can let their PT’s take NPTE, why can’t Canada? The PTA’s here are considered as unskilled since most of them attend 2 years of PTA/OTA diploma. However, internationally educated Physio’s go to school for 4 long years and take their written and practical in-order to obtain a degree after a 6 months of mandatory internship in a hospital. Even then they are not allowed to work in hospitals because they don’t have a PTA/OTA diploma? It’s insane! I wonder who makes this rules here? The people who sit in the council needs to be replaced since most of them are not even Physio’s and they don’t consider physio students as their ‘colleagues’, where as other professional councils consider their members as ‘colleagues’. Council should definitely be changed. It should have diverse people with Physio background not some one who is a retired fire fighter! I strongly believe that 455 students should be declared as licensed and cancel the OSCE for once and all.

Thanks for sharing and raising some great points!
I really hope that we are able to rethink the process through which we evaluate residents and administer licensing for the future. As you mentioned, there are a lot of examples of other professions in Canada, or Physiotherapy internationally that suggest we could make some changes for the better.
As for the councils currently handling the decisions, I hope they can find a way to help those who are waiting and were affected by the most recent unacceptable cancellations as quickly as possible!

Thanks for an excellent overview of the background and context to this embarrassing fiasco. Congratulations on having passed the PNE before Covid struck. As a physio for over 40 years I shake my head at what has happened and my heart goes out to everyone caught in this situation. Please remember that you are the future of the profession. It will get sorted (it has to be).

      Thanks Cheryl!
This really has been quite the fiasco for those involved. I'm very fortunate to have made it through the process, and I'm really hopeful we can find some resolution for those still caught in this situation in the near future!

Your last sentence was written 5mo ago. Still unresolved. Way beyond an embarassment, this represents professional incompetence in serving its obligation to the state, its social contract, as a regulated healthcare profession in Canada. During the entire pandemic, it still has no plan and the virtual exam is still failing while PT candidates are being used as human subjects in an experiment that would never get ethics approval in any Canadian university. And where are PT faculty offering criticism? Hiding behind the couch to save their cushy jobs. This is a profession on its way out. Unbelievable.

@@anonanon257 I agree with you completely. The incompetence is staggering.

@@cherylcott7044 Yes, and it is now a year later and very little has been resolved. Despite what ppl wish was reality, the profession continues to demonstrate that it lacks accountability, ethics and effective leadership. What private company selling a product or service would ever survive such chaos? How could executives of such a company ever hope to have a job when acting with such a lack of competence? No company would ever survive. No exec would still have a job. Only in the world of healthcare? Scary to think.

A friend of mine was explaining this to me and I didn't quite get it all, but your video was very clear. As a note for that Exam Eligibility chart, I think it makes sense if CAPR actually followed it lol. Anyone who wrote the written portions in the first three testing groups A, B, C are able to register for all of the clinical tests, but anyone that did their written exam in the 4th slot can only do clinical groups slots B, C,D. Finally, if you fail the group A clincal you have to wait to retake it during the C, or D clinical slots. After that outline, I think CAPR won't follow their own outline.

Thanks Kevin! Glad it helped clarify the situation :)
Ahhh that makes sense actually on the eligibility chart! Relatively straight forward when you get into it but I felt like I was missing something looking at it. As you mentioned at the end there I think this is out the window now after everything that's happened.
Very curious to see what the next steps are!

    Hi,
I was wondering if you help me here with a concern.
Should I join a class to prepare for the PCE clinical exam or just self study is more than enough to clear the exam
On what basis I should think of joining a class
    Please advise

      Good question!
Personally, I didn't use a class in preparing for the PCE. I found that just reviewing notes and practicing with classmates in mock scenarios was enough.
I think that as long as you have a group you can brainstorm with, practice and correct each other you should be OK! That said, if you don't have people to practice with (hopefully other PTs) a class could be helpful.
      Hope this is helpful :)
