I have been a resident of Auburn for more than fifty (50) years. I must say that the old Auburn is gone. We need to have better protection of our heritage. We are loosing the beauty of this community which I believe is a very special community.
I live in York. England and often pop by to watch the web cams of Auburn. Watching this video I can see why so many people are concerned about the big changes taking place in Auburn ... and I agree with many of their concerns, I do like the designs of the new buildings and including retail outlets on the street levels is a great idea ... but they need to be careful not to destroy the beautiful community feeling that Auburn has built up over many years. Building for the students can sometimes lead to the more mature people seeking homes elsewhere ... but it is good to build everything so it interlocks, sadly where I live` most retail has been driven away from our City Centre because the local Council decided to invest in " out of town shopping " when it was a new concept. I hope Auburn can continue to prosper in the near future ... and I shall be watching the web cams with great interest.
I grew up in Torrance, CA, a mid-sized suburban area of LA. We had lots of open fields, crime and traffic was low, and housing prices were affordable. Many developers over the years came to "improve" our city, by adding restaurant rows where there used to be fields, hotels and an expanded mall, just for starters. Also, lots of condos where we used to have a marsh (yes, a MARSH in LA, lol). My dad was a school teacher but was able to afford a house for us there. Today, the traffic in Torrance in intolerable, the housing is completely not affordable. In short--all of this overdevelopment has ruined Torrance. I hope Auburn, which is a beautiful city, is VERY CAREFUL about who they let "develop" their town. It is such a lovely place, and I have noticed that housing is really starting to go up there.
He said the businesses they forced to close were "unimportant" . what a jackass thing to say! Those businesses were peoples livelihoods. Also, he said we need a grocery store downtown, hell, there's a wal mart and Winn Dixie a mile down the road!
I was at Auburn for three months during Oct 2010-Jan 2011 and staying at 1001 Donahue Dr. We had a pleasant stay. Myself Sriprakash Mohanty and my friend Samiran Nandi were on official educational tour to Auburn University. We had chance to work with Dr.Eric Peatman and Dr Liu at Fisheries. We were very closely associated with Prof. Barnhardt and Dr.Milla Kaltenboek and they had treated us like their family members. Dr.Eric had exposed us to great X Mas celebration in Auburn besides taking us to a visit to Auburn suburb. Prof.Bernhardt and Dr.Milla had shown us the whole Auburn township during the three months. We remember all weekend marketing, going to Atlanta to buy Hilsha fish, celebrating XMas at their place and so much. After Nine years also, those beautiful memories of Auburn has never faded. Love you Auburn.
Having grown up in Auburn, it's sad to see the small town flavor be bull dozed into oblivion. I'm not a big fan of paving the loveliest village on the plains.
I don’t like big building they scare me and shouldn’t be in auburn. I’m 65 years old and don’t like cool things so I’m terrified that auburn won’t look like it did in 1897. Keep auburn lovely.

@@Celestialnight We have lived here for 15 years. We are not from a city. We have lived in Alabama our whole lives. The buildings being replaced were some of the worst in Auburn. Krystal, Shell gas station, awful apartments. Auburn is growing and evolving it's not being left in the dust like other cities in this state.
When you put a “high rise” parking lot with high end residential, the Burger King is better... height wise, nothing downtown should be hight than the tree line.if a building cannot make its place better than it is a worthless endeavor. 900k do not make places better... it is a divide in “community.” Place should drive the market value not an owner who drives their own directive.
I can see why a Realtor and an Architect would loved the growth. But I was born and raised in Auburn. The previous Mayor and city council started this crap and now the current Mayor and city council are continuing it. Money has ALWAYS had the louder voice in Auburn. I remember when Auburn had a population of 12,000. They are totally destroying downtown!!!!!!!!!!
My son is coming next fall and I was wondering if Evolve was close to the campus. We are looking for an apartment that’s not a party space? If that makes sense. Any suggestions ?
I'm not sure about non-party spaces. Evolve is very close to campus so you can walk and it isn't considered a party space. Two-21 is also nice and within walking distance. 319 Bragg is nice. 160 ross. They are constructing 3 new student housing developments that should be done before he gets here, Uncommon Auburn and 2 others that I can't remember the name off the top of my head.
You haven't addressed traffic other than parking. I live near the University of Maryland which has built enormously on Route 1 which would be like Auburn's College St...traffic is HORRENDOUS! Auburn needs to think well in advance about traffic...unfortunately. Making part of College and Magnolia downtown pedestrian only (at least on football weekends) would be nice.
More student housing does not mean high rise density that costs 2k per month. These claims are narrow minded because the anchor stores are chains or bars... these buildings are awful!
I hate these realtors thinking Auburn would be nice if you add 900 story apartment. Waffle house literley has no sunlight bescause of massive buildings
These new buildings look like shit! We have been called THE LOVELIEST VILLAGE ON THE PLAINS and this ain't it! I guess this is what happens when you let liberals, out of towers and Yankees move in...they f it up! RIP OLD AUBURN!
He is incorrect about producing life... you’re altering the existing historic conditions with a mall. Looks like tiger town with high end prefabricated boxes... this goes against community. The Baptist Student Union was sold for 300k and flipped for 2 million... downtown is too car centric.
Proud that people love Auburn and I understand that growth is inevitable... but :( my heart is also sad. Our small town is not so small anymore.

Dope video. It's all about resource generating diversity.
What looks awful is putting skyscrapers in the middle of downtown and destroying the historical buildings
I've been here since 2004 off and on... It's a beautiful town

With time comes change, but watching this small town I grew up in transform to an urban center is a little bittersweet.
This is what happens when outsiders move in,they are destroying everything that makes Auburn the Loveliest Village on the Plains
Yes!! Beware of this. Especially if they are from blue states.
With the tall buildings we are no longer on a plain, that saying has to go. I’ve been here since the 90’s’
Well blue most often is clumped into urban areas and Auburn is becoming more and more urban so…..
Question, is there a mall near? Mainly in walking distance?

I know ! I live in Cullman an when I come to Auburn I love the small town flavor also feels like home! God bless
I hope that the burger king isn't going to be replaced by another "urban" tall building. Replace it with something of character

Wells Ingalls all these small businesses will be put out of business because they apparently can't adapt and they aren't good at attracting business.
I can’t tell if this is a sarcastic comment

Hmm this was three years ago. I wonder what it looks like now. I’m moving to Auburn May 31st, 2021.
It looks waaay different. There are like 5 massive apartment complexes downtown that have been built in the last 2 years.
Can't wait😎🔥‼️
