  • In this video I look at the very first episode of The Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, and compare to the newest 750th Season 34 episode, Homer's Adventures Through the Windshield Glass. I see how much has changed in three decades since The Simpsons have been on air.

I love the first episode of The Simpsons. When I was growing up, I related to Bart and Lisa, making a wishlist and wanting certain toys from Santa, but as an adult, Homer really touched my heart. It reminds me of my dad whom worked very hard to make sure I had a good holidays every year. At the time I didn’t see it as a child but as an adult I really appreciate how much he did for the family. Even down to bringing us home a puppy on a rainy day, which he found all alone on the street that we later adopted.

Sure it's not in it's prime anymore, but the fact we are talking about an on going animated TV show dating it's first episode all the way back in 1989, to their most recent episode over a month ago, is very amazing. Not just because it got to see a little bit more of Marge's father, but also the funny Easter eggs that were sprinkled throughout the episode( including you!❤). Love this video! You always make great content..Yeah, so I've been a lifelong huge Simpsons fan, but I can only count on one hand how many episodes after season 30 I've honestly seen. I've just found it harder to stay consistent with wanting to watch. It's hard to grasp it these days. I know out of creative necessity, they've had to go a bit outside the box on things, but it's to the point where it seems to stretch just a bit outside the confines of what I know the Simpsons world to be. A lot of characters seem to have episodes where there roles and who they are, go beyond their core and they seem like almost different characters as a means to fit plot armor and to make something new..idk. Maybe I'm stuck on nostalgia for the older episodes, but it just seemed that they were more grounded back then, and didn't need to change genres just to tell a story. I find the newer episodes to be, at least since 2018 I'd say, to be more like a fantasy, where too many abstract things happen and they rely on too many current trends to make jokes on, and references that sort of have seemed to follow Family Guys formula. I still love the show, once in a while I'll catch a newer episode, and parts of it are great and I find it hilarious, but it's fleeting now. I'd say anything from season 25 on is just hard to watch as willingly. I'm 50/50 on it ending. I want it to continue, but at the same time if it ended tomorrow, I wouldn't complain. It's so huge that it'll last for another 30 years in pop culture alone.

Good analysis as always, I think my first episode was Tree House of Horrors 99 but I am not sure. I was in 8th grade that I am certain of. I think the show has great moments throughout but also with transitional periods where they had to find their footing again. Anything that last 33 years is going to have to recreate itself sometimes. :)

About the digital animation. According to a dvd commentaty for one of the episodes (don't remember which one) The producers actually fought for doing the animation the old fashion way (pencil on paper) But in the end they had to admit to themselves that there weren't any animators left who would do the animation the old fashion way since everyone had switched over to digital at that point.

I kinda love the 750th episode's opening, as it lets you know just how far the show has come (it's a shame they left out the bus stop passengers from the old opening but they may still be here). It was nice to see Apu again too. I've never thought him offensive, but it's sad to see the show want to remove my favourite of the many stereotypical characters. His octuplets are still adorable too, so it's nice to see them again. I also noticed that the Winfields were in the poster; their first appearance in ages, and that Maude got to be temporarily ressurected for one last time.

They should just modernize the characters to their natural ages 30 years into the future. We all love the future episodes. They should just do an entire season like that. The Simpsons producers ban the Michael Jackson episode, yet they keep the work of animators who use their work to prey on teenage girls like John K, Justin Roiland and Alex Hirsch. They should be ashamed

My favorite episode is the tree house of horrors where Homer gets stuck in a alternate reality and falls into our world

I dont know what to comment to be honest so I'm gonna leave one of my favorite mr burns moments here:
Homer: I think I won sir.
Mr burns: you won alright...you won more than you bargained for.
    Homer: WOOHOO

I saw a couple of episodes from Season 1 when it orginally aired in 1990 I was 11 years old at the time so it's hard for me to pinpoint what was the first episode i actually watched but I still have the VHS tape from when I first started recording the show during Season 2 when it orginally aired on Fox when I was 12 and that episode was Bart The Daredevil on December 6 ,1990. I had orginally started with the episode the week before Bart vs Thanksgiving but I lost that tape somehow and by the time I stopped recording episodes of The Simpsons on VHS around 2012 I had about 43 cassettes full of episodes. By now I'm guessing some of those will still play or they have all degraded over time.

Lisa's daughter from the future is there. Did she go back in time to see what her mother's childhood was like?

Uh actually “Simpsons Roasting on an open fire” is actually the 8th episode.. and the real first episode is “One Enchanted Evening” which does have a couch gag and intro. 🤓

(1:38) Me: (looking around to see if I can identify all the characters)
Also me: (sees someone in the tree) wait a minute… *pauses the video * what is that?
Me realizing who it is: Oh mah gawd…what IS that? WHAT IS THAT???
The amount of characters and celebrity cameos they animated in the opening is insane-
