I haven't watched a modern tetris tournament in a long time, and my jaw is on the floor after seeing this. I remember watching cz back in 2020 when he first became a top player and was basically a really fast triple rotater. The timing, the game awareness, the b2b, and the downstacking he showed in this set are miles beyond anything I've ever seen before. You are insane cz, this a thoroughly deserved tournament victory.
Barely an S rank newbie but I learnt so much from watching this match. I always wondered why sometimes my PPS and APM are higher than my opponent but still end up losing and I finally realise from watching CZ that countering (downstack) and setting up the board for defense is really important. There's something about the change of pace CZ does which is so surreal to me because I have never thought to pause and watch what the opponent does/is going to send. Going forward Ill have to practice look ahead and using more than just the first preview. Real lightbulb moment for me from the commentator 12:10 - 12:23 .
I'm U rank, and I also relied on machine gunning to win against my opponents. I finally realized why I lose despite 2.2pps vs 1.6pps and higher apm. It's the downstack and the vs score that really makes the difference between battles.
It’s literally killing 3 birds with one stone when you counter like CZ does. You downstack into a better board state (when you have CZ level vision), clear your incoming garbage, and send garbage all at the same time while your opponent just used his whole board and has no downstack opportunities given the Tspin singles CZ finds to send jank garbage. It’s actually so inspiring to watch
@@heroesofwarbyjonny1374 yup there are 2 players in high u who go around 1.5pps, one of them has even been x rank, and they'd beat a 2.5pps sdpc spammer in ss any day

Yeah, imagine if someone sends sdpc and the other person survives. Second player has a chance to send a 30 spike with enough skill and rng, while the other player is left almost defenseless

It’s a t spin double setup called a cut copy. Once you know the basic shape, it actually can be pretty easy to spot, even if it looks intimidating at first.
