I liked the Black Nickel bass more than I did the Silver Plated bass. The Black Nickel had more of a focused sound and spoke better than the Silver Plated.
I get that, they are both so fun to play! In terms of practicality, alto will probably be used more for ensembles etc. Also, I have found more sheet music for Alto than Bass, but I don't think you can go wrong with either!
I've got a Yamaha B441 and the Black Nickel sounds more like the Yamaha's Gold/Brass. I have the Bass flute because of its broad, low tone. So my personal preference is the Black Nickel
I think purple, like what lines the case, is my favorite color. Gina, I think bass is my favorite flute in the family. Well, bass guitar is my main instrument, so why not? Great sound, too! What does a bass flute typically retail for?
I can't afford it right now anyway, but I want the black nickel one and can't find it anywhere. I hope they have it by the time I'm able to buy one. I specifically want the Trevor James brand after watching your videos.
I usually like and get a lot out of your reviews. However, in this one, there was way too much about the bag, case, crutches, etc., and hardly any playing for comparison of the two flutes. So, I wasn’t able to really make any judgement at all.
As a technician, I agree. The embouchure hole requires hand refining and finishing in its production. No two are exactly alike. That's where the tonal differences will occur in two flutes of the same make and model. The finish makes no significant difference. There IS a psychological difference. When I polish my flute, I truly believe it sounds better - but I know there's no difference, I'm just focusing, enjoying and appreciating it more.
I adore the bass flute in C, especially with the low B foot joint.
I tried the black nickel Trevor James as well! It was harder to keep cleaner but I love the black nickel!
It is a bit harder since it shows finger prints more, but the sound is so beautiful! The keys of my Alto are black nickel :)
Such a beautiful instrument. Would you consider doing a video on the contrabass flute. That instrument is incredibly fascinating.
Great idea, thanks John!
@@GinaLuciani can you do a high end bass video?
@@Thedreadedflutist that’s my next video coming out beginning of March! Reviewing Yamaha, Sanko and Altus

I love Trevor James Low Flutes!!! I didn’t really start dabbling in low flutes until I started Grad School.
This is so wonderful! It can be challenging to keep going with our own creative pursuits, but this is definitely an inspiration for my music.

the scales always tend to show the qualities of flute in my opinion. maybe its different for someone else?
Oh, that black nickel bass flute's sound! I love it!
Till this day I can't decide if I want an alto or bass flute. I've played on both.

looking forward for a copper alloy version of Trevor James Bass Flute 😁😄

I’m hoping to buy mine this summer

yes I’m early !! love reviews 💕
Wooo! Thanks Jade!
The C bass flute & the G contra’alto flute make a good duo. Not only that, the C bass flute & the C great bass recorder should make another good duo.

Aha! I found someone who sells it!
I love the sounds on the silver plated Bass flute, it has more of a sharp sound than the black one

I dispute that the bass flute would have a different sound based just on the coating.
The aesthetic is important - But the flutes sound the same.

Can you slap it?
Olá muito boa tarde maravilha obrigado
Wiseman cases weigh like nothing if you're game to spend a lil bit on a case aftermarket
😍 hilarious....flute and it's bag
I didn't see you play the black nickel-only silver!
I be terrified at trying to say the phrase "black nickle" over and over.
