@ 8:04 the man standing by the ladder and looking up has the job of keeping count of everyone outside. This is to (try) to prevent them leaving someone up there while the submarine dives. Often he also holds a rope attached to the hatch while the last man (often the OOD or the CO) dogs the hatch to make sure that it doesn't spring open from the air inside of the submarine trying to get out! (Also forcing the hatch to seal to prevent water from getting in!!!)
@@scottwegner4232 It wouldn't have the same effect. The tribbles would just coo purr, and multiply until the sub ran out of food or burst to pieces from the pressure overload
CPO Wilson, congratulations. They run the navies of the world. Captains think twice before messing with the Chief of the Boat. CPO Malcolm Nance has some things to say on RUclips.
War in the Boats: My WWII Submarine Battles by William J. Ruhe, an officer on the boat gives an excellent account of this and other missions of the Crevalle. A far cry from this cornball telling.
at the 13:00 minute mark he says, (moons coming up over the mountains). Hmm mining saigon river which is in the delta, east of said mountains, the actual skipper couldn't have said that as the moon would come up out of the south china sea. hmmm. I might be wrong about which delta though.

I'm a sucker for a happy ending.
Great show! Lousy leadership for letting that promotion slip beneath the waves for so long.
Great story again.
Wilson was a bad dude in his new Chief uniform.
I know it is a movie that kind of takes liberty, but it gave me goose-bumps to see Chief Wilson get his just due.

it's a true story 1
“ WILLLLSONNN!”
At 6:18, is that Kaho'olawe Island? The smallest of the Hawaiian Islands. It was blown to hell as a practice target during WW2, Korea and Vietnam.
The Tribble trader from Star Trek!
They should beam all of the tribbles into the engineering spaces on the Japanese ships. What a laugh that would be!
You mean Harry Fenton Mudd?

Oldest Chief in the navy
With Cyrano Jones as Munson, Burt Convy as the diving officer, and Ann B Davis as Alice.
I thought that was the same man. I'm glad he didn't bring any Tribbles.

it's Cyrano Jones!
Wow! These were some brave men!
I see Dr Rossi from Peyton Place as one of the lookouts....
I believe he was in the original Midway movie as well.
@@TPaine1776 Ed Nelson was in the Navy, he joined when he was 17.
