Great variety and color! Fun watching the wheels of the passing trains too. Concrete ties at 9:26 with e-clip fastening system, I think! E-clips even come in a variety of colors; probably all rust color in the end. LOL First concrete I've seen. Totally cool special effect at the end. :)
Yes, we went to Smyrna to see it, but bumped into it again at Inman Yard, which was very nice. BTW, NS 231 appears also in both videos at different locations (that's the train that stalled in Mableton).
Great vid(s). General question. . .I to like to railfan near me. I'm just west of the old Potomac Yards site in Alexandria VA. I've seen CSX, VRE and Amtrak heading both ways. I can get to about 50' feet form the right of way. My question: Does CSX publish a timetable of their trains so I don't wait for them? Keep on keeping on!
Thanks! No, unfortunately there is no timetable accessible to the public, if such a thing exists at all. In earlier times, railfans had access to the dispatcher's advanced train control system (ATCS) by reading out communication send to and received from the signals along the lines. Since communication technology advanced and lines and signals got modernized, this doesn't work anymore on many lines. So, we are back to good old radio to listen to the crews' and dispatchers' chatter and an active railfanning community to track trains. Just going to the line and hope a train comes by can be extremely frustrating, because on no-so-busy lines there are often gaps of many hours between the trains. Trains show up regularly only in some hot spots such as the ones presented in this video (typically near big yards). What also helps is learning typical schedules on the line you want to railfan. I know, for example, that some trains here in my area show up during certain time windows of the day if they are not delayed (which happens all the time...). Hope that helps. Good luck hunting!
That would be cool. No, it's just a hobby and I spend almost all my spare time for it. The ad revenue compensates to some extent for the expenses but I could certainly not live from it. Maybe in the future; who knows where this still develops to. Momentarily I do all this just for the fun of it.
Thank you! I haven't spent much time in that area. I think it's safe during the day and if you have company. Parking is not easy. There are concrete and lawn areas near Tilford. Inman is more difficult, one might consider stopping briefly in the center lane to catch a glimpse. Since these yards are very big, there is a lot of security out there. It's as always, some are more tolerant than others. However, the bridges I filmed from are part of a public road, so I concluded that taking pictures from there is permitted.
Thanks. Live in Miami so am through Atlanta 6 times a year. Have to look where the yards are. ATL traffic is so hideous on 75. Used to live in OH and had easy travel time to the 2 Marion diamonds where NS, CSX rule. Years ago did watch the old Conrail East West line. Keep up the nice videos.
Mark Klinefelter Oh, I see. Cool, FL. Haven't yet been down there this year. Well, the yards are easy to find on the map and there aren't many bridges crossing them. Add 85 and 285 to 75 - they are all the same mess. One of the reasons why I don't spend more time in Atlanta. Thanks, I'll try.
I GOTTA QUITE WATCHIN THEM RAIL ROAD TRAINS IN GEORGIA I WILL RAIL FANN SOME IN ARYZONY FOR A WHILE. "THE UNIONIOUS PACIFICUS" FOR A WHILE. SEE IF THEY IS SOME HOG BACKS THERE IN ARIZONY

The W&A is a very busy CSX line and concrete is certainly more durable and allows for higher train weight per axle. Glad you like it :)
You just can't beat CSX,even with all their problems.
Another Grreat Video my friend and thanks for the wheel close-ups! :)
Thanks, good you like the special effects :)
very cool. awesome catches. cool GE's and EMD's nice. cool SD70ACE's, SD70M's, SD70Mac's, CW44's, ES44's, SD40-2's D8-40CW's nice. sweet catch NS, CSX, KCS and UP loco's nice.
Yep, it's quite a nice variety of different engine types!
mbmars01 very cool.
I really enjoyed your video I wish you success my friend
Many thanks! I appreciate that you like watching them.
Woot. You came to railfan at my town today!! Good old smyrna ga with the w&a sub. Excellent video
O my god. a Kcs unit came By!!! 😢😢 damnit i would have loved to seen it
Well, you should have many such occasions. The W&A and Atlanta Sub are busy and have all kinds of stuff on them.
It's a very nice place for railfanning. Unfortunate, though, that the crossings are silent.
yup. The people of smyrna don't want to hear the horns. They use to blow but people complained so now it's dead zone for horns
jknw
It's a pity. It's such a nice place to watch trains.
I like train videos on RUclips 👍

Cool, thanks!
So have you turned this into a job? Man, I remember when I was like 14 and had all this time to watch trains :P

Im trying to apply for NS so i can be a conductor. Might try CSX as well!
Yeah, you should try! Good luck!

I have enjoyed your videos from Atlanta and all over. Is it safe at Tilford and do you get harassed by security? Ideas where to park?

Thanks. No idea. I have never been behind the bend under the bridge and don't know how it looks like there.

In iMovie you can do that.

In Smyrna? This train with KCS leaders was indeed a special event.
mbmars01 Nice to see my home sub, I know the crossing you were close to very well!
I think I remember now that you mentioned earlier that you are familiar with this area. Be happy to live near such an active line :)
