Thanks, your style is professional! So many people "um" & "err" their way through videos it's painful to watch. Is there a MAX-IF-IF function that can use "field names" rather than fixed ranges? I can't use DMAX because I have rows of dates as you describe, and I can't use the MAX-IF-IF because my columns may change order (they are filled by an Interop program). I ended up making a list of named ranges that repeat the field names every second row, for using with DMAX! Not as neat but it works.
Hey Mike, really great video series! I am looking at portfolio return / risk within various periods. I was wondering if there is a clever way of adapting the formula so that I can look at the STDEV of asset returns between two dates within the time series?And secondly is there a way to do a similar thing to look at the correlation between the various assets in the portfolio within the same defined period?
Thanks, I did find a solution, but the problem with it is the criteria take two rows for every one row of the "results", so I can't fill the formula down: Date,Date [from1],[to1] Date,Date [from2],[to2] ... Date,Date [fromx],[tox] I'll check out your INDEX solution when I get back to excel. thanks again, awesome!
hi, great job, i need ur guidance if possible. i am trying to make a formula which look for a specific repetitive value in column A "item code" and automatically adds the two cells on its right "incoming, outgoing" whenever it sees that value in column A, and it will do that for the entire table. thx
Oh, I misread your post. I see that you did find a solution with the DMAX!!!! That is awesome!!
I am glad that these videos help!
If you want to lookup columns you can use INDEX function to lookup columns or rows.
Something like:
=MAX(IF(Date>=LowerDate,IF(Date

D Functions are really cool when you have just one set of criteria!!! These are really old functions - been around a while!
Cool, have not used "D***" functions before. Ready to try some out now where I would normally
That is great. Actually your next video would have been my next question too. Very, very helpful. Thanks
Great!
Yes, that is the fatal flaw of D Functions: if you want to copy the formula, it just does not work...

Oops, hit send. ....normally use vlookup. Thanks Mike.
