Thank you, Sir András. When I was a child, almost 80 years ago, in addition to school music lessons, we learnt to sing individually and in choirs. Wonderful days; wonderful ways. Now, sadly, most of these learning methods have disappeared. But they remain with those of us who are older, as we sing our way through life and through the music we play.
Maestro Schiff, there's always so much wisdom in your teaching!!! God bless you always and keeps on giving you so much light for us!!! Many many blessings!!!!!🙏❤️
I am so excited to listen to this advice -piano & string instruments are connected to and are born of breath. Today our world is saturated with keyboard "music" a keyboard is a machine with a drone.
For a singer breath is the heart of the instrument. The interplay between larynx and breath is felt in every moment. I love what he has to say here; it is very wise at several levels. With God lost our choir/chorale tradition is dying in my country. Perhaps if we can learn to sing together again we can learn to live together.
Just wonderful from Sir Andras Schiff. It always amazes me though how is PMS version of singing sound so different. Just think of Horowitz's singing vs Schiff vs Rubenstein for example. Even percussive playing can sing if produced at the highest level
I just adore hearing him speak

"...in a choir, we are all aiming for the common goal - not to beat anybody."
The essence of music and beeing a real human

Comment jouer sans respirer, sans chanter, sans danser? Impossible, bien évidemment. Merci András Shiff de le rappeler avec des mots si justes!
Bach’s first principle for playing a keyboard instrument: Cantabile.
alguem do brasil ? / Jemand aus Deutschland?

I've always thought this is common sense.
Perhaps uncommon sense, for some!
Yes, but how many pianists actually do this? Very few, I guess.
Common sense, but not common knowledge.
