I'm thinking about buying a Tango 2 because i'm flying only small quads (obviously) and the radio (qx7 with cf module) is by far the biggest thing in my backpack. I could save so much space and waight using the tango 2. I use crossfire exclusivley anyway and i never used more than 500mw and it was enough for flying 1km from my position and accidently dropping between two mountains. I had do a 2 or 3 second full throttle punch to get video back at 800mw and CF at 500mw just saved my day👍
I went to check out this video expeting to not get any new info, but let me tell you that while i thought that my Tango 2 was on the latest firmware update i realised that i had a very old firmware installed. Thanks for letting me know how to enable the beta firmware updates!!
TIP: Format SD instead of delete, much faster. When reloading new files go in and delete all the languages you don't know or use. That's is what takes so freaking long. I even go as far as deleting sound files ( like flaps up, flaps down etc...) that I won't use. You can make a custom folder for all your sounds as they never change when updating firmware and save yourself a ton of time.

I re-learned the 'if it ain't broke (or you don't require the update) don't fix it' lesson again! Didn't work for me first time like the video so sadly I lost a precious flying day due to an unknown error message in the crossfire menu. Doh!
I updated the Tango2 without updating the SD card. No warning popped out. Works fine with the sim. Didn’t try to fly an actual drone yet as it’s cold where I live. Does this mean I don’t need to update the sd card? Did Agent X do it for me?
@Joshua Bardwell Deleting files from an SDCard takes long time because of FAT filesystem, it does not supports 'DISCARD/TRIM' operation on flash devices, so delete processed with write operation for each file. This is true for all FAT16/32 filesystems under M$ Windows OS. Under Linux it is possible to use DISCARD/TRIM even if storage is formatted as FAT filesystem.
Are there some must have features in the beta firware? I don't see a reason to upgrade because everything works fine. Can you make a video how to setup the display on the Tango2? I couldn't find a way to change the "mainscreen"... Thank you, love your work 😊
Greetings from Malaysia. Thank u so much for the video. I've just updated my tango 2 following this video. Something makes me worried tho. The ad card content is still 1.2 while the firmware tx update is 1.31. Do I still need to download the 1.2 version?
Tip for someone who is experiencing that the tango would not update and is stuck in "Start update" with 100% green bar, but does not go to the next step. Check if the files in "c:\users\[windows username]\appdata oaming\TBS Agent X\Firmware" have some size (mine were 0KB). If that is also for you, then for some reason it didn't download the firmware files. Find another Tango 2 user and let them zip that folder and send it to you. Replace the files in that directory with the one you receive and you can update your Tango 2. It took me 5 hours to get past this problem :/. (Contacted TBS for it and they have send it to their devs to let the software check the files before updating, but that is still not implemented)
Thanks for the video. I have formatted the sd card, without backup. I downloaded the content from the "team Blacksheep" but the radio folder is empty. When I start the tbs tango 2, on page 1 it says no tools are available. Any suggestion on how to fix the issue? Thanks

Hey there big fan! thanks for the video! I have a brand new tango to pro and I’m having trouble Arming my iflight Cidora. My TBS nano RX is binded with a solid green light and I already created a model and got a to arm once before and now I’m having trouble figuring out what the problem is. The only thing I can think of is maybe some thing got changed when I tried to use a simulator on the same model. Just reaching out for help. Any ideas?
how do I see the output power its currently on ? is it now at 500 by default in december 2023 ? can It go to 1 watt ? is it same steps to go to 1 watt ?
Thanks for the write up on this Joshua. I am having a problem though, my SD card is not showing up when I enter the SD Storage option. The Tango 2 folder with the firmware is there but the other does not load up.
When you upgrade, do you lose all settings? I'd never upgrade without a backup, but it would be nice to know if I can simply upgrade without any other hassle. That is, as long as I upgrade to a firmware-version that matches the SD-card version.
@@H.J.B actually all of them are capable of 500mw, but its a pretty insane soldering job. Look it up on YT, I can't recall the original video, but it has been done. I personally wouldn't attempt it though...
Joshua, my tango 2 is not being recognized by tbs agent when I connect the transmitter. how can I fix this? I am selecting on the transmitter "tbs agent" option but it is still not showing up on tbs agent. Thank you.

Hello, I tried the Update and it completed successfully, also the Memory Card updation. But after that When i select menu its not showing crossfire. Can u help to solve this??????
Same thing happened to me. Press and hold Menu and Exit buttons for 6 seconds to unlock, then set your Region to ‘Open’ and you should be able to select 500mW.
@@TL-jw4nc Make sure you have the V3 Tango board and that your FreedomTX is updated to latest v1.21 and then do the hold menu+exit for 6-seconds or more to unlock your Tango region setting and set it to Open. That’s all I really know. I hope it helps 👍🏻

Sorry I meant the download from their website. I found it, but now my tango wont connect to the receiver after deleting and adding the new SD files. I transferred model, crossfire, logs and radio. Thank you for all your help. After trying to bind. I get a message on the tango 2 saying to reload agent X. I've reloaded it a bunch of times and its still telling me to reload. I just got it working🎉✨.. thanks for all the help in your vids
It might. I bought the Pro model in late September. And it had the V3 board in it. So you should be able to upgrade the firmware. But it might not come with it. Since that version firmware is still BETA.
I might have gone crazy, but I've just received my Tango 2 which was on the latest Beta firmware but had a slightly newer XF version that I've upgraded too and TBS Agent is telling me I can select 1Watt off output power now!
I've just checked the radio and confirm it also says 1W of power. I'm on 4.08 for the XF and 1.23 for the radio. Sorry if this is already common knowledge lol.
@@seagullhunterfpv How long did it take you to update the firmware on agent X? mine stuck at "updating sub systems" for about 30 mins now and it shows offline after it rebooted.
@@flyingmonkey8245 yep, really. Seems to be next to no information about it though, but I've been flying with it and had it switch to 1000mW now and again so must be working. I also noticed that my board is a V3 B not A, so not sure if that makes any difference
I updated my Tango 2 a few days ago I didn't read the release notes on that update because Im new to this and didn't think that it would contain a warning! I tried to bind a quad today and Im getting an error message. I went back to Agent X to see where I am with the update I downloaded. I read the release notes tonight and saw that it has a warning update Freedom Rx to version 1.21 or later. Why the fuck isnt that warning up front . Like a little exclaimation point or something that tells you to read the release notes. Better yet include the Freedom Tx update needed Agent X wont allow me to do any more updates . Where do I go from here ?

i don't have an upgraded board, is there a cutoff on what firmware version I can use? because now I have opened a can of worms. Binding is acting weird now. I had everything on one model without issue before updating, now I cant even keep 1 quad to stay bound. I just wanted to fix the gimbal centering bug it wasnt even a big deal. 1 step forward 3 back horraay FPV!
OK I got it all going,1st I had to reload FW (tango kept saying "reload FW in agentX" whenever i tried to bind), re-setup my model profile, then I had to rebind and update each Rx. not sure what happened the first time but this 20min update turned into a 3hr head scratcher, yeesh.
Need some help. TBS Agent X wont get past "plug your device into a USB port", which, of course, I have already done. Radio on. Agent X open. Plug in, select USB agent. Nothing. Any suggestions?

@@vincentweil i got the same thing. go back to Agent X and refresh the latest firmware onto the Tango XF. After doing this, I was able to initiate bind from the tango 2, and it updated the Nano Rx. I've now hit another roadblock as my quad connects but will not arm. not sure wtf...

@@JoshuaBardwell I tried on another 2 quads and no good. Couldn't get it without pushing the button. The bind appears to start but I never get the "update receiver" option on the tango, it just sits there and flashes green. Oh well they're all done now anyway.
I followed your instructions up until you click UPDATE. I'm stuck at "Start update" at 100% and nothing is happening. I don't know what to do from here... looks like it all it did was remove the 1.16 version and now I'm stuck. pls help

Why would anyone buy new board and do all of the hassle modding just to get that extra dBm gain from 23.97 to 26.98 dBm? I'm staying with the original board, though external module capability would be nice.

Updated to version 1.23 and lost all my settings. After the firmware update was finished the Tango 2 asked me Plane or Delta and if I had a channel idkkkk what the hell happened here.
Did you copy the Models folder out of the SD card before updating? That contains your models so if you didn't copy it out then restore it that's what happened.
@@JoshuaBardwell Ah yes, I did that, I forgot to switch models. However, my sticks are completely messed up. I calibrated them which helped but it still acts weird, for example, when I have throttle at "physical zero" the tango reads it as -82. I am scared to power my drone, so I tried in the sim and the drone goes crazy.

Ha! I just wasted 3 hours trying to figure out why after the updates, I couldn't get my radio to go to 500mW because I didn't know you have to buy a new board for the inside lol! I just love FPV.....
You answered my question. I have a tango 2 and can not be bothered to open it up to see which revision the board is. However it does show 500mW in the menu after installing the software update. Thank you!
@@jscholz4948 I'm sure your fine. Also my quad doesn't even fly with the new software lol, the motors spin up fine without props, but as soon as I put them on one lags behind a jitters. I went to my Taranis with a older version, and the Crossfire x lite, and it flies fine lol.
If you have connected to an Accespoint, freedom firmware may not update, anyone facing this issue, goto tbs WiFi hotspot, goto browser 192.168.4.1 and delete the accespoint and cloud history .. only then it will update.. please let me know if anyone had to face this issue
CAREFUL!!!! 2 things. (very careful doing this in a Mac. It can be done, but check my comments first, so you don't have to waste an hour.... or more) FIRST: I did as you told and got a strange behavior with the TBS Tango 2 Pro. . . . I then tried to downgrade and this time I got a BRICK!!!! I had a dead Tango Pro 2 it wouldn't even react. . . . I tried pressing the E button while connecting it to the USB-C. and it got into recovery. . . or something. . . SECOND: I had to first recover, then it didn't worked the downgrade because the link for the SD-Card old versions is not working, it directs you to download the middle one, 1.1 or something. . . . So I hjad to upgrade again ,.erase the SD-CArd formatting it to FAT32 ussing disk uwtility on the mac. . . . and then upload the latest SD-Card info. . . . and the files. . . . Then it was working horrible,. . . . so I had to Calibrate, then erase the Models I already had. . . then create new models . . . and It seems to work fine now. . . only, the sticks mode is not recognized by the Velocidrone, I had to reassign them. . . . I will check with my drones in BetaFPV to check if this was just a Cache issue (I didn't restart my computer diuring all this. . . . . . ) Hey Josh!! The KnowItAll made a consistency error :@07:12 the SD card was named TANGO_SD(M), and in your next instruction it was USB Drive(M). . . . that's confusing... and then @09:57 it is named again TANGO_SD(M). PRO-TIP delete all sound files except the language you are using when transferring new SD card content, your transfer will be much faster.
You may even skip deleting them in the first place😁

I got my hands on tango 2 yesterday and it came with the V1.1(V007C) mainboard also crossfire v4.08 downloaded. I got 1W max output power.

Check your settings in betaflight. Make sure your your arm switch didn't change.

@Seii-FPV I never had this exact problem. But I have heard the factory SD card isn't that great. so you might want to try and swap it out.

just did the update and the tango turned off and wont even turn back on does this mean the tango is done

It depends on the version for your mainboard I think it is only the V3 mainboard that is capable of 500mw

Yes. In the Model Setup set internal module to off.
My models don’t show up after transferring the backup files back to the sd card.
i can't see the SD card folder, im using mac. I can see the other one you said not to touch but not the SD one to refresh the SD contents

I might have gone crazy, but I've just received my Tango 2 which was on the latest Beta firmware but had a slightly newer XF version that I've upgraded too and TBS Agent is telling me I can select 1Watt off output power now!
I've just checked the radio and confirm it also says 1W of power. I'm on 4.08 for the XF and 1.23 for the radio. Sorry if this is already common knowledge lol.
@@seagullhunterfpv How long did it take you to update the firmware on agent X? mine stuck at "updating sub systems" for about 30 mins now and it shows offline after it rebooted.

@@flyingmonkey8245 yep, really. Seems to be next to no information about it though, but I've been flying with it and had it switch to 1000mW now and again so must be working. I also noticed that my board is a V3 B not A, so not sure if that makes any difference

Joshua, are you sure that V2 is capable of 500mw?
to have 500mw available, you must have a v3 motherboard in your tango 2. If you bought before September 2020, you rather have a v2 or v1

my buddy just bought ghost and a module bay for his tango 2. if it dont run opentx can it be updated to run ghost?
Tango 2 cannot run ghost today because it runs freedom tx. It's expected that it will eventually convert over to opentx but for now, no.
I updated my Tango 2 a few days ago I didn't read the release notes on that update because Im new to this and didn't think that it would contain a warning!
I tried to bind a quad today and Im getting an error message. I went back to Agent X to see where I am with the update I downloaded.
I read the release notes tonight and saw that it has a warning update Freedom Rx to version 1.21 or later.
Why the fuck isnt that warning up front . Like a little exclaimation point or something that tells you to read the release notes. Better yet include the Freedom Tx update needed
Agent X wont allow me to do any more updates .

Remember that the radio should be powered off and just plug in USB don't power it up.
i don't have an upgraded board, is there a cutoff on what firmware version I can use? because now I have opened a can of worms. Binding is acting weird now. I had everything on one model without issue before updating, now I cant even keep 1 quad to stay bound. I just wanted to fix the gimbal centering bug it wasnt even a big deal. 1 step forward 3 back horraay FPV!
OK I got it all going,1st I had to reload FW (tango kept saying "reload FW in agentX" whenever i tried to bind), re-setup my model profile, then I had to rebind and update each Rx. not sure what happened the first time but this 20min update turned into a 3hr head scratcher, yeesh.
Need some help. TBS Agent X wont get past "plug your device into a USB port", which, of course, I have already done. Radio on. Agent X open. Plug in, select USB agent. Nothing. Any suggestions?
Have you installed the tbs drivers?

I got the same problem... I haven't tried the old files but it's completely messed up
I think SD content backup had to be done first, before starting firmware update

@@vincentweil i got the same thing. go back to Agent X and refresh the latest firmware onto the Tango XF. After doing this, I was able to initiate bind from the tango 2, and it updated the Nano Rx. I've now hit another roadblock as my quad connects but will not arm. not sure wtf...

Yes. I did. So painful when you have 12 quads and some can't get to the nano receiver easily.

@@JoshuaBardwell I tried on another 2 quads and no good. Couldn't get it without pushing the button. The bind appears to start but I never get the "update receiver" option on the tango, it just sits there and flashes green. Oh well they're all done now anyway.
I followed your instructions up until you click UPDATE. I'm stuck at "Start update" at 100% and nothing is happening. I don't know what to do from here... looks like it all it did was remove the 1.16 version and now I'm stuck. pls help
After you update the firmware you have to back out and update the crossfire module separately.
@@JoshuaBardwell Want to add, I was on the original firmware and I did not get the prompt to update my "plz update crossfire" message, I just backed out manually and that worked.

Why would anyone buy new board and do all of the hassle modding just to get that extra dBm gain from 23.97 to 26.98 dBm? I'm staying with the original board, though external module capability would be nice.
I don't know any RF Engineer who scoffs at 3 dB of free gain. If 250 mW is enough more power to you.
Hey Joshua hello, while waiting for my remote control to arrive, I received the multi module for the Tango 2, I wanted to know if there's a way to update the MDM firmware using Agent X via the USB-C port of the module because when i plug in there is only a fixed red led and nothing appears on Agent X : '(

Updated to version 1.23 and lost all my settings. After the firmware update was finished the Tango 2 asked me Plane or Delta and if I had a channel idkkkk what the hell happened here.
Did you copy the Models folder out of the SD card before updating? That contains your models so if you didn't copy it out then restore it that's what happened.
@@JoshuaBardwell Ah yes, I did that, I forgot to switch models. However, my sticks are completely messed up. I calibrated them which helped but it still acts weird, for example, when I have throttle at "physical zero" the tango reads it as -82. I am scared to power my drone, so I tried in the sim and the drone goes crazy.

Ha! I just wasted 3 hours trying to figure out why after the updates, I couldn't get my radio to go to 500mW because I didn't know you have to buy a new board for the inside lol!

You answered my question. I have a tango 2 and can not be bothered to open it up to see which revision the board is. However it does show 500mW in the menu after installing the software update. Thank you!
@@jscholz4948 I'm sure your fine. Also my quad doesn't even fly with the new software lol, the motors spin up fine without props, but as soon as I put them on one lags behind a jitters. I went to my Taranis with a older version, and the Crossfire x lite, and it flies fine lol.

If you have connected to an Accespoint, freedom firmware may not update, anyone facing this issue, goto tbs WiFi hotspot, goto browser 192.168.4.1 and delete the accespoint and cloud history .. only then it will update.. please let me know if anyone had to face this issue

2 things. (very careful doing this in a Mac. It can be done, but check my comments first, so you don't have to waste an hour.... or more)
FIRST: I did as you told and got a strange behavior with the TBS Tango 2 Pro. . . . I then tried to downgrade and this time I got a BRICK!!!! I had a dead Tango Pro 2 it wouldn't even react. . . . I tried pressing the E button while connecting it to the USB-C. and it got into recovery. . . or something. . .
SECOND: I had to first recover, then it didn't worked the downgrade because the link for the SD-Card old versions is not working, it directs you to download the middle one, 1.1 or something. . . . So I hjad to upgrade again ,.erase the SD-CArd formatting it to FAT32 ussing disk uwtility on the mac. . . . and then upload the latest SD-Card info. . . . and the files. . . .
Then it was working horrible,. . . . so I had to Calibrate, then erase the Models I already had. . . then create new models . . . and It seems to work fine now. . . only, the sticks mode is not recognized by the Velocidrone, I had to reassign them. . . . I will check with my drones in BetaFPV to check if this was just a Cache issue (I didn't restart my computer diuring all this. . . . . . )

The KnowItAll made a consistency error :@07:12 the SD card was named TANGO_SD(M), and in your next instruction it was USB Drive(M). . . . that's confusing... and then @09:57 it is named again TANGO_SD(M). This may be obvious to you "mister know it all" but hey man!!! I am starting out on this! I am a beginner! a novice, a rookie, don't do that things!!!
-I am changing EVERY darn FrSky to TBS, and maybe selling or throwing to the trash de darn X-Lite Pro because I started with it months ago, but I really hate FrSky for the moves they made, I was only entering the hobby and got stuck in between the FrSky malPractice.... so thumbs up for TBS
I am now upgrading to 1.23 and the SD card was erased in a fraction of a second (MacOS Mojave), but the darn upload, that took also "forever" about 10 freaking minutes for just 150MB.
