Just remember Serbia has a smaller population as a county than Manhattan. It is impressive they play in all major tournaments for a top 3 spot, since decades in Basketball.

You have to give it to them. They're playing in one team their whole basketball carrer except Jokic and Bogdan. They built that chemistry for years. Whereas USA, well closest example is the 2022 Lakers, with Bron, Davis, Westbrook and Nets Kd, Ky and Harden era. Not because you have the best players in the world, you're guaranteed the win/gold. They still have to play with chemistry and team basketball.

US had a horrendous night and played like trash until the 4th quarter. Everyone has off nights. FIBA is a 3 point contest. Whoever shoots better wins. US couldn't buy a bucket for 3 quarters. If it wasn't for Steph...they would've had a 22% 3 point % and would've lost by a lot.
They struggled against South Sudan too. Teams with players who play together in the same system for years will be competitive against teams that are just thrown together at the last minute. The US also beat Serbia by 30 the game before so maybe they took their foot off the gas. Happens all the time in basketball.
Serbia can enjoy their almost Gold medal.

The referees deserve the most, they concede three points to Durant after a foul made by Davis and played to Jokic, then three points again, Embidi's steps don't play several times, LeBron's carrying the ball, Durant's stepping on the outside line, the Americans really had another ignorant MVP from the referees from Panama and Bosnia where amateur basketball is played.
Dude, I’ve watch the whole game three times, Serbia got plenty of calls. The foul Joker got when he bulldozed Davis into Durant - really you don’t think that was a foul? Lots of time USA has established position on defense and Serbia guys smashed into them with no fouls called. Serbia lost this game because their 3 point shooting averaged out in the fourth quarter due to better defense and law of averages.

First, Davis dragged Jokic and threw him at himself, and the foul was before the shot, so Durant's three-pointer was not allowed. Devin Booker played perfect, complimentary basketball up until that game. Did he even watch the game? Everyone was off except for Steph, who up to that point, had not played a complete "Steph-like" game. When Tatum is in he's turning the ball over or shooting bricks. Play better when your number is called and maybe you'll get some minutes on the court. 😂

Tatum shouldn't brood about not being called. He should practice practice practice accurate shotmaking and think great defense and BE READY in case he's called. Same with Halliburton and the rest of the team. The ENTIRE Team USA ALL have to be mentally and physically ready for, and VERY HUNGRY TO WIN a 40-minute battle that might be longer and drawn out if the referees are pro-France like in the Canada vs France game. Team USA faces a France roster ferociously hungry (and possibly willing to be subtle dirty) for a win. They face a viciously raucous pro-France crowd and possibly pro-France biased referees who might hamstring some US players early in the game. The ENTIRE USA Team needs to bring their A-game and be mentally and physically ready for anything.

Anyone paying attention would have seen that Serbia team was an NBA Playoff quality team. International play has almost caught up, especially because of the fundamental shift to a focus on shooting and multi-skilled big men. Serbia had both in spades and played the game of their lives, it took every ounce of tallent from 4 MVP's to beat them in the end.
Jokic, Bogdanovic (not even a starter player) and a bunch of no names are not a playoff team. Go look at most playoff teams from last year. Every team has 2 stars and bonafine starters with solid benches. Stop elevating the Serbs to make excuse for this USA team. With all the hype the about the super talents that this team has, this should never be this close. It should be a least a 15 point trounce thru out the game to justify the hype. The problem with this team is Defense. When u play against an inferior team, you know they know they will rely on three pointer and outside prayers cuz they are not skillful and quick enough to consistently drive in. You need to extend your D out to cover the outside by being much more active and aggressive to the shooters. You cannot let them shoot and expect a common 30+% because u never know if it could be one of those hot lucky day for them.
One of the most fun games I've watched in a long time. Just cool to be able to watch LeBron, Steph, KD all work together to get it done. 4th qtr they turned it up, simple as that. Serbia missed all 10 of their 4th qtr threes, and USA made 13 of their last 14 and 10 in a row during the 4th.
I agree,one of them is 0/9 for 3 pts,but there is a several things which has an impact on the 4th quarter. Jokic (7 min before the end 4 foul) can not play defense like in first 3 quarters and btw he did,J Embid used those min well… For Serbia,it’s enough to have only Jokić and one more player playing top basketball against team full of superstar players like US,someone else has to step out,and they did,Avramović (I guess you don’t know him) was a key player,I think he has 15 pts at the first half and nobody in Serbia ,day after,didn’t know why he was on the bench last q. Then ,I now ,sounds like stupid excuse,but I have to mention referees. Whole tournament was a grey zone,we don’t know what is the criteria for a lot of things and the we end up with Joel E traveling so many times,it would be embarrassing for professional player to call that so many times . Also IT is inadmissible,to let(doesn’t matter how big star you are) trolling referees whole game,that is technicall foul,several times also. For the next Olympics ,we need to establish rules and stick to them.

How ironic in 94, 96 Team USA was talking about the challenge of adopting Fiba defense because NBA was more physical. 24 Team has at least 10 current All Stars! Imagine if Serbia had 3!
Everything had to go just right for the USA to win in that 4th quarter and it did. Whew.
Devin Booker is an excellent defender, he and the other defenders helped win the game in the 4th quarter. Serbia very nearly won the game but the US defense got the stops and pressured the Serbian offense into missing their shots the last 7 minutes of the 4th quarter.
If Chris was coaching and Tatum was playing it would've been a blow out for Serbia... Rich is right, you tighten the rotation, you go with the best players. Kerr did that and it worked.
If these guys had their way, the guys who won the 4th would have been riding pine. Only Rich saw that tightening the lineup brought about the epic comeback.

If you ain't a Golden State fan it be easy to think Kerr is not doing anything. Being a bay area Warrior nut, obsessing over every game and nuance, Kerr has a style that traditional coaching repel from which iis he's a player coach who has no ego that developed a long leash house style way of coaching which with talented vets he can do which is if they feel the game instinctively on the floor he will let them handle the reigns with little oversight, zero micro management. This style is rejected by a sport where 99.9 pecent of coaches have huge egos and can't surrender control even if it's a detriment to the team. Kerr developed this style with Dreymond, Curry, Klay. They got rings with it. Kerr can shut it down and has no problem if he thinks it ain't working. Kerr will put Green in check. So knowing that, this is Dreymond here, if Kerr can do that and live to tell about it snd has Green's respect, yeah, he doin something right. LeBron woukd never work under Kerr only because he has to always be in control. You can tell KD misses Steph and the Warrior culture. He thrived under Kerr and did so yesterday. We miss KD too. Yesterday wZ like old times. I know it was Curry and Klays nickname, but Currey and KD were Splash brothering it. Gotta admit though, LeBon, Steph, KD for God and country was pretty sweet.

The US does not know how to play defense - other than Lebron and KD they are fundamentally SO weak - Take a look at Embid's positioning when France got two offensive rebounds and scored on consecutive possessions. LeBron makes Jokic miss and Embid allows a tip in by his man. Inexcusable!! These guys have gotten by with pure size and ability since they were 12. No one coached them for sure. In the other half final France played a much better game against Germany than in all the previous games. But they could only win because Germany played their worst game in the tournament - and were completely out of sorts. In short: France didn't win the game, Germany lost it!
The same goes for Serbia against the USA: Of course the USA picked up in the 4th quarter and played very well. But just look at the three-pointers - to pick out just one aspect: Serbia were successfull with 10 out of 20 attempts in the first three quarters. And in the 4. quarter ZERO out of nine! ZERO! If their rate would had been only half as good as in the first three quarters, they would have won by at least eight points!
The reality is: Of course the USA played very well in the 4th quarter!
And of course Curry and LeBron played great!
But the USA team should at least admit that they were extremely lucky that the Serbs lost so much in the 4. quarter...
Serbia was 15/30 from 3 thru 3 quarters - way above their average ( against Australia they were 9/29 for whole game, including overtime ).
