Zatos original meter was ridiculously short. Barely 3-4secs. That’s less than even rams cooldown rn (which doesn’t matter). Zatos meter could be a bit faster but people need to stop capping that s1 meter speed was fine
Zatos stay capping, not only was the resource fast but they timer scammed with flight and jD disjoint. It was so prevalent both of those got shot at the same time.
He was only considered to be high tier, never dominating tournaments or anything like that, and I never saw anyone complain about the character. I don't know where this narrative of "Zato original meter was egregious" comes from.
Honestly when i see most criticism of GGST patches online it sounds unhinged and hysterical. Your videos go along way towards convincing me because they clearly show the what and the why.
Thanks for the detailed video explaining things. I play Zato in Strive, but outside of Eddie meter changes I always wondered if people were just overplaying how much worse he'd gotten. With damned fang back to the way it used to be I'm definitely happier with Zato than in prior patches, though he could still use more work
I've been considering this for a while now but maybe wanna know your input on it too Domi, how fruitful would it even be to outline a decent length video with some longform text and present it to the balance director dude on twitter, or send it through ArcSys' channels of contact. I was catching up on your other videos and you mentioned that the balance director IS actually listening to complaints on twitter or something like that. It might be a shot in the dark but who knows, maybe they could consider some of the suggestions and issues that are made with an effort to be highly reasonable about them. I saw the video that Tene released about Zato before the patch hit, that highlighted his weaknesses and why it's all compounded and maybe how it could be fixed through getting reverted or half nerfed. I think that video and this video are very similar and I honestly considered typing up something myself and sending it over with Tene's video wayback. I don't think it would be too bad of an idea. Especially if we could get some of the prominent KNOWN Zato players to provide some analysis and feedback or suggestions that can be vetted for, either through the semi interview style videos you've been doing for "how strong is so and so with (prominent main)". Perhaps a video titled "How Strong is Zato-1 along with suggested potential fixes featuring (Latif, Domi, Tene, Gobou, Peppery Splash, Setchi, other prominent zato players etc)" If everyone had time for it they could record a short segment for what their gripes and suggestions for potential buffs and fixes could be. Pro players might add some validity to the message. I was also thinking that if it could somehow be translated to Japanese or have Japanese captions OR the type up have a Japanese translation along side it, or at the very least the main points / suggestions being in Japanese might also help the message be instantly understood through a quick DM of the developer or whoever's eyes it reaches. I know that's probably a HUGE project to undertake but it might make for a good video, especially if those players have time to give some of their insight which I would doubt they'd refuse since they're all pretty passionate about their mains. Also an important point that I think this solves that I want to make known, maybe this idea might have more success versus just replying and yelling into the ether angrily over twitter. If I was the developer I'd probably be more receptive to formal well thought out complaints and suggestions versus a lot of the emotion filled salty complaining I would see 99% of the time over twitter. Especially if it's made easy to read in Japanese or it has a lot of prominent voices who know the character. I guess I just get the impression that they don't KNOW what to even do with him, perhaps suggestions through your voice and others might be enough to point out all the finer details they keep missing like gold burst still killing Eddie meter and other esoteric niche and obvious faults they might otherwise not have thought about. Plus I think portraying the passion and love for such a niche character might go a long way too in the devs eyes. We may not be a ramlethal type in their eyes but I know for a fact that we all really love the character and want him to succeed without being cancerous. I'd be happy to help facilitate such a task the best to my ability if you think it might be a good idea. I'm no pro player but I can see what I can do as far as getting translation, people to reach out to, etc. And who knows, if it could be done and sent out to the director....then maybe next patch might actually look pretty decent for us because of what we did? You never know. Sorry for the long message! If you read the whole thing then I appreciate that alone. Thanks for the videos they keep me entertained during work like right now lol
@@xaliantox read the whole thing! A video on every prominent zato recording their gripes with translations… u might be cooking. Let me discuss with setchi👀
@@DomiWurld yea! i think everyone might be free for a second to talk especially if it's to complain hahahah regardless whatever you feel like doing as long as it's more zato content im happy with it brother.
Zato was so strong he's still to this day the only character that made more pros switch to him specifically than any other characters for tournaments. There was straight up 6 Zatos in Top 8 at one point. Only people who didn't play Zato during that tournament was Slash and Apolgogyman. They debatably only labbed Zato just to fight Slash's May.
27:42 in that low tier patch zato got the least buffed out of all the low tiers. Do you agree? This is because the move speed change is mostly good for niche combos, and the burst tchange isn't that good because they can just wait for the gauge to go down by 2\3rds
Season 3 wa + season 2 zato Eddie timer is literally just looping unblockables.... vs grabbable DPs... I thought you of all people would understand what having a move that lets you string Blue wa. While having an external projectile... and a command grab does lol You thought old zato was uninteractive? Wait till you are blocking and your reward for sitting there is getting command grabbed and it happening again. Or you jump. Frog hits you. And he hkds from his other wa
Biased take here: he deserved all those nerfs.(spits on ground), running away until the eddie gauge is back then puttin you in block stun for 20 seconds. eff dat guy.😆
I’m a Millia main and this is the problem with Strive and pretty much any low damage character. In order for any low damage, and low health, character to win, we have to lock down our opponent for as long as possible, either with mixups or block stun. Locking down our opponents serves as our offense and defense. A locked down opponent can’t destroy our health in 2 touches. And a locked down opponent gives us a chance to mix - slowly getting our damage in. The problem is… Strive players in particular, HATE that. You guys have no appreciation for the skill it takes to run perfect mixups, or flawless block strings, like that. You just see “I can’t play the game. Nerf that character so I can ungaa bungaa again”. The solution, Imo, is to increase the damage of every low damage, low health, character. We keep our core play-style. But increased damage means we don’t have to lock our opponents down for 15-20 seconds straight in order to win. We could do 2 good mixups and it’s on to the next round. We wouldn’t have to be perfect anymore, or be 1 touched by some drooling gorilla anymore. and you wouldn’t have to be locked down for 20 seconds straight anymore as we run every mix in the game 8+ times to score a win. It’s a win/win. And it’s the only way I can see characters like Zato or Millia being decent in Strive without being universally hated in this incredibly poorly balanced game. Just 2D’s 2 cents.
@ you think Zato, with his conditional damage (he has Eddie + 50% tension + you don’t have burst), is high damage in a game where you’ve got Potemkin, Goldlewis, Nagoriyuki, May and Sol who can just molly-wop you from round start?
I understand how it feels for Zato mains, but honestly he should stay low-mid tier, just like Pot. Not only puppet characters are extremely strong by design, but they also are hell to lab against because of how difficult it is to input all of their stuff correctly. I'm pretty sure Zato is the only character in strive (and xrd as well) that is straight up unplayable on keyboard. Not that it matters for a pro player, but for casual like myself not being able to even lab his sh1t to learn how to counter it is awful.
As a Zato main, he should be mid high tier. He's a hard character to learn already. Why would I want to learn a hard character just to not have some decent fun in the game? Would you rather easy characters be high tier? No one wants to play a low-mid tier character that's hard. Might as well take him off the roster if that's the case. I literally stopped playing cause he's so ass now. It feels like you can't play the game for 6 secs when eddie dies. How is that fun? Ask yourself how many Zatos you even encounter.
Nerf Zatop-1, so carried it's disgusting
Yh I preferred when he was zottom-1

23:00 wrong. People did find a way to use it on knockdown to threaten sideswap after drills.
