Wauw!!! Love it how you also film when it’s getting rough, your thoughts, descicions and frustrations. You’re sailing one of the most difficult area’s to navigate, don’t forget ….
@@juliusjordens I've heard it said that when conditions change and a reef feels needed, you are already too late. Especially when sailing solo.. Also when angle of heel is greater than 30 deg, you actually lose power (and comfort, which in turn impacts safety).
West of Ireland on a quiet day, iv been in a swell where the waves shadow darken out our 37ft sailboat, for us normal, it's fun and exciting, and I'll be honest for the first hour or so, o shit I'm gonna die, you look over your shoulder and the waves are bigger than your house, you go up , then all the way down, 😂, all the best from portlaoise Ireland Sean
@@juliusjordens yeah, especially as you have your day job too. this was a nice one mate, a proper good reminder for me not to go out in wind over tide around capes!
Great passage footage. Never arrive like you did on a rock strewn, macro tidal coast, at night. You need luck. If your plotters went down, for any reason, you are in trouble.
Thanks! Yes totally agree! If my plotter failed or something else didn’t feel right I would have sailed away from the island and sailed through the night to another destination
The idea is to go through the Alderney Race at slack tide, preferably with neap tides. And, not so close to Cap de la Hague! Stick to the middle of the channel between the cape and Alderney. 🙂
Thanks! Correct on both points. I missed the chance to put a reef before the cape and then the swell was so wild I preferred to hold on and wait till it’s over
Good stuff. A beautiful boat anchored in a stunning place. Best regards from Jarle
That was f-ing awesome! Thanks for taking me on that journey! Just what I needed.
Quite spontanius jump on the boom there. Sailing alone some harness would be good when leaving deck up.
Nice video.
Thanks! When it gets really rough I definitely put a harness on

Thanks man! Yes I also understood that eventually 😂 wish I was born in the Mediterranean
Good job man.
That trip needed a reef in your main, IMHO.
Yes I think you’re right, especially when the wind picked up around the cape. I realised later in the summer I often sailed a bit overpowered 🙈

@@laurencevanhelsuwe3052I’ve heard that saying before too! Will keep in mind next time

@@seanfarrell5341 the sea is a scary place! 😬
waheyyy, I was waiting for this.
Haha I appreciate your enthusiasm! 😊 finding time to edit these videos is really a challenge!

@@WildlingSailingthanks mate! Yes I don’t recommend it. Best thing you can do is stay on the Dutch lakes 😅
I really love your “sailing garderobe “😮 its totally “ thinking out off the box”😅
It reminds me off myself…..
Hahaha, trying my best to fit in with the sailors 🤓
Thanks ,nice video and nice job on guitar
Thanks mate
Pretty brave what a adventure
Alderney race needs some careful tide planning
It was well planned, I arrived exactly at max current 😂😂
Awesome video! Alderney Race has a reputation. Slack water is your friend :) Thank you for sharing. Subscribed.
I appreciate it 🙏🏻
Its a completely safe anchorage .I left my 24 foot Evintide yacht their for quite a while.Yes it is Incredible beautifull.
Nice! Yes very safe to anchor with all the sand but not exactly comfortable while I was there, a lot of swell

I needed this advice before the trip! I was wondering why no one else was out there 😅
Thanks for grwat video.
Looking quite rough.
Can you please tell what is your boat model and size?
Thanks! It’s a Taling 32 from 1980
@juliusjordens Long keel - motorsailor?
@ long keeler indeed but not a motorsailer, just a regular sailboat with a solid spray hood. Many Talings were built as motorsailers though
Great video, perhaps a little over-canvassed.
Judging by how she behaves, she’s a long keeler?
Thanks! Correct on both points. I missed the chance to put a reef before the cape and then the swell was so wild I preferred to hold on and wait till it’s over
Next time see you in Jersey!
I actually spent a few days there and loved it!
Hello Jules. An excellent video and good commentary and great music. What is your boat - it looks great!
Thanks mate! It’s a Taling 32 from 1980
1st sailing at night, then with high current. Next video is sailing during a night storm? 🍿🍿🍿
Don’t give me any ideas 🤡🤡🤡
