  • The way you spend your time is the way you spend your life. On average, working Americans spend 36% of our weekdays sleeping and 37% of our days at work. So, two-thirds of our weekdays are spent either asleep or at work. If you want to live a meaningful life, you have to find a way to bring meaning to your work. For the last two years, Tony Loyd has interviewed hundreds of people who found a way to make money while finding meaning. They make a dollar and a difference. Tony tells the stories of four people who found purpose in their work.”
Tony Loyd is a radio host, speaker, and best-selling author of Crazy Good Advice: 10 Lessons Learned from 150 Leading Social Entrepreneurs. He is a former Fortune 500 executive with extensive experience in strategic planning, talent management, and leadership development. Today, Tony hosts the radio program and podcast, Social Entrepreneur where you can hear the stories of changemakers who are making an impact on the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Work is miserable and ruins life. You work to get money to live to try and enjoy being alive, but it takes away the very things you need to enjoy life (time, health, relaxation, creativity, energy, positivity, friends etc). So its a lose-lose situation with no solution. Only those lucky enough to be wealthy or find a job that isnt hateful are able to even come close to the good life.

Really enjoyed this talk. In this world so many people choose work just to make money. This should be taught in schools from a young age to not think about money but rather think about the impact they can make in this world,

I rather work and have money to get around on my free time than be stuck at home and have no money. In either case I'm in a rut. All work is essential. I've had jobs delivering medical gases which kept patients on respirators and or surgery alive. I currently have a job assembling transformers, which help power companies regulate/monitor routed electric power that goes to light up residential and commercial units. Being aware of my contribution keeps me going every morning..

This lecture implies that you need a job to make an impact. But you can make an impact outside of work, as well. That was not really mentioned.
