    I have the original DW-6900 for around 25 years now. I bought it when I was 10 years old. It got two new batteries, a new bezel and a new band over the years, but it's still one of my favorites. Good investment by the 10 year old me I think.

    I have a 6900ms (1289) that I’ve had for over 12 years. Gives you that classic 90s look I grew up with. Perfect middle ground size. This thing is tough. I’m a full time automotive mechanic and have given this a beating since I got it. It’s been soaked in hot dirty motor oil, gasoline more times then I can count over the years. I scrub it off with a dirty sink brush with gritty soap that most mechanics use. I’ve worn it shooting in the blazing hot dusty Arizona desert all it’s life, swam all summer, raced and crashed dirt bikes wearing it. Banged around all its life. It’s super lightweight for its size and wasn’t very expensive. All I can say it’s survived everything I’ve thrown at it.

      And that's the reason why the DW-6900 was given to the Navy SEALS 💪🏻 It's indestructible.

    I wasn't going to get into G-shocks, but I found one of these from the 90s at a flea market for a steal, but it was missing the G button, bezel/case protector and the original strap was worn and cut to be shorter. I then hunted down the components I needed and now it looks almost as good as the watch in the video.

      Where did you find a replacement G Button?

    • @Marian87
      @Marian87 2 года назад +2

      @@jimbobbeer6642 I found a guy on eBay from Israel who sells the bezel, battery, strap and battery. It was about 35$ + shipping. My bargain G-shock is now not much of a bargain anymore, but it looks good. Search for (best_watch4u). He migh not have any more buttons left though. Good luck.

    • @Marian87
      @Marian87 2 года назад +1

      @@jimbobbeer6642 Also, if you find a replacement G button it won't come with its own very small round retaining clip, so very carefully remove it from the old button inside and try not to lose it while you fit the new button .

    • @e28forever30
      @e28forever30 Год назад +3

      That’s part of the appeal of G-Shock watches.
      Wear it, beat it, and when it starts to look a bit scruffy, you can fit a new bezel and band and it looks like new again!
      You can even change the color, switch to a combi bracelet, fit a bullbar, a metal bezel or even a full metal kit and completely customise it.
      I recently picked up a totally worn 12 year old rare white GW-6900, bezel has paint that peels of, band is broken.
      Guess what, function wise it is perfect, charging, battery, Multiband are working flawlessly.
      So now comes the fun task to refurbish and possibly customise it.
      Gotta love Casio!👍

    I've been owning a DW-6600 for over 15 years (that took a visit to Casio Germany already because of a "disappearing" case) and a GW-M5610 for over 4 years now. Although the DW-6600 is a little bit too large for my wrist I absolutely love both of them because when the going gets tough, the G-shock gets going. 😄

  • @clintlanier8534

    Have both the 5610 and 6900. The 6900 is more functional as the buttons are far easier to push and the light button is so easy to find. Which one looks better is subjective…. I love them both

  • @patricko9170
    @patricko9170 2 года назад +17

    My DW6900 is ten years old and still on the original battery with heavy use. I wouldn't worry about the battery life on most DW G-Shocks. The alarm is also much louder than its solar counter part and the watch can withstand greater temperature ranges due to the CR2016 battery properties compared to the solar version battery. Great review and glad you like the watch.

    Thee were so popular in the 90's. I remember when I was a kid in elementary school, some kid had one and he showed it off to us. He activated the stopwatch function and we were all entranced by the animations on the these eyes. 🤣 Now, 25 years later at the age of 34 I'm wearing my GW-6900.

    For a better “looking” and a better “fitting” G Shock (for us smaller wrists...) - take a look at the AWG-M100B...AND as a bonus is Solar powered and has Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping. Also, comes is a few different color variations - search “AWGM100”. Then remove the cheap plastic watch strap and put on the SEIKO KN20 strap from the Mini Turtle (with very slight trimming for the lug width difference) - and Bam!! Nice watch that is very comfortable to wear.

    Love the 6900 series. Everything you said here, you got it exactly right! It's like a fusion between all the other models that came before it at the time. So, so cool! Although, I'd recommend the GW model over the DW, not only does it have tough solar / multiband 6, but it's also got a three letter display for the day of the week instead of only a two letter display used in the older models. Plus the three eyes are actually used as indicators for settings and whatnot, instead of using all three of them to count the seconds.

    • @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR
      @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR  2 года назад +9

      Thank you for this! Yes those 3 eyes are more useful with the GW! The watches colour choice just looks too modern for me;) I bought the 5610 because it looks like the original from 83! The 5600 doesn’t look like the original ;) that red frame around the display I needed to have!;)

    My major problem with watch straps is the bit that holds onto the strap that stops it flapping about snapping and coming off. How do you replace them? How do i replace a casio buckle? Can you order a replacement strap if needed from casio as well, as your average jeweller never seems to have a replacement strap that looks like it matches the watch. How do you replace the buckle on a strap from plastic to metal, and can you get the correct replacement from casio directly? Sorry for all the questions, as i'm a casio G-shock newbie.

    Hello Madman. A couple of things, and please correct me if I'm wrong. You mention your DW5610 as the "original square G-Shock". You may have unintentionally misspoken, but the way I understand it that title goes to the DW5000 that came out in 1983. The DW5600, which I own, is it's direct descendant and the DW5610 just happens to be the solar-powered version. The DW6600 is totally LEGIT! I still have mine that was issued to me by the military back in 2009. It was featured in the movie "American Sniper". I still have it and it's still going strong. With moderate use the battery lasted more than 10 years. It is my "lucky watch" and I use it as my flying watch. The DW660 is discontinued but my understanding is that the DW6900 (featured by you) is its direct descendant. All and all all these models are great watches; any model with the G-Shock brand is. Check out my personal favorites, the military style models DW5600MS and DW6900MS.

    Hi. Nice video review on this iconic piece. May I ask about a different version of the case back? I found one with a cursive "Shock Resistant" engraved on the case back, different from what you have in your video. What is your take on this?
    Looking forward. Thank you.

    I own several GShocks to include the gw5610&gw6900. The 5610 fits like a glove the resin strap is extremely soft. I swapped the straps on the 6900 with dw5600 straps it hugs my wrist just like the 5610👍🏼.

    I do have the GW6900 version. I used to have a DW version but after several years the strap disintegrated, which apparently was common among Casios of the 1980s. I’ll admit that I also have the GWM5610, and that tends to fit my 7” wrist a bit better because of the smaller angles of the strap joins.
    If you’re looking for a G-Shock suitable for a smaller wrist, might I suggest having a look at the AWGM-100 series? It’s an ana-digi style and it also has something rare for a G-Shock: a sense of elegance.

    The rules for "size on wrist," and what's "too big," are different for G-Shocks than for other watches. They're deliberately big and chunky, and what would be "oversized" or "too big" for any other watch simply doesn't apply when it comes to a G-Shock. "Too big" is kind of the whole point.

    • @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR
      @THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR  2 года назад +1

    Forgot to add I think even Chris Kyle and guys that were in BUDS were issued the 6600 in the late and early 90s. BUDS classes in the mid to late 90s were given the 6600 and/or 6900. Enjoy it as they last forever and take a beating. Still have my 6600 from 93 and 6900 from early 2000.
