Coming from an Irishman, thanks for giving some of our whiskey the exposure it deserves - we’re almost ignored by lots of whiskey review channels and websites. Sláinte🇮🇪
I'm new also to whiskey , and between trying scotch, bourbon and irish single pot , so far I prefer irish single pot. Which are the main differences in taste between irish single malt , irish single pot and irish blended whiskey ?
Nailed it once again Bill. What I really like about this one is that it drinks much better in terms of flavour and depth than most 80 proof whiskeys. Take care and stay safe. Cheers.
I know this is an older video. But, I have to say the Jamo BB is my all time fav right now. I normally drink Bourbon, but can only handle a couple of them. And after visiting Ireland last March I am enjoying the Irish Whiskey very much. I had a fair amount of the BB during the holiday season and, like you said, just had a great time without getting real drunk in front of family and guests. Its a great pour if your having more than one of two.
I bought this one yesterday. If there was an Irish Bourbon this would be it in my opinion. It's just a nice and easy sipper. Very sweet and tasty and I think it would be great in an old fashioned.
i totally agree with you on it being easy. I buy a bottle, pour myself some half a glencairn and just go about my stuff and suddenly im just like "wait, where's my whiskey gone to?". happens far too often. now i understand since everyone feels the same way. nice vid
Late to the party, but I just picked up a bottle and am trying it now. Price in Atlanta today at my store (which normally has good prices) was right at $40, and I’ve seen it for more at other stores. I’m not yet below the neck pour, but first impressions are the good notes you mentioned, some spices but not TOO much, and nicely sweet. That char flavor is working it’s way to me, and I’m finding I like double-oaked and heavy char expressions. ABV is not a problem, as like you said this could be an easy-drinking daily dram. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
If someone gave you a blind pour of this, you would immediately identify it as a Jameson - just way more interesting! And I like our reviewer said he doesn’t care about views because that tells me he cares more about sharing his whiskey experience with us... so liked and subscribed for your efforts!
I agree 💯. Enjoyed my first bottle this evening sitting and chatting with a client over the span of a couple of hours. It was very easy and enjoyable, with a couple of laughs. Very pleased with it. BTW - Love your channel.
Ten years ago Jim Beam Devils Cut and Jameson Black Barrel were my first legal purchases. 10 years later I’ve bought them again and both are solid for the money. Flavor, not perfect, but go great in a mixed drink with lemonade or grapefruit juice.
Another awesome review!!! Thanks for expanding my views on Irish whiskeys. I found a few I enjoy and will keep enjoying. You right that there's not a lot of info out there so Thank you for this month of reviews👍!!! Cheers Bill 🍸!!!
Bill, I've really enjoyed your Irish Whiskey month reviews. I agree the Jameson Black Barrel is a great easy drinking whiskey, but I actually prefer the Jameson Caskmates Stout even more. I like them for the same reason you mention-- just a nice unpretentious dram. Keep up the great work!
Bill, thank-you so very much in doing an Irish whiskey month. It is indeed underrated, but oh so very friendly and approachable. Stay safe, you and yours! :)
Thanks for the review. This was my favorite of the sample pack I got (it also had the IPA, Stout and standard bottlings). Strangely, I picked up a hint of green apple on the taste which reminded me a bit of Green Spot. I think it was kind of like a step from regular Jameson towards the Green Spot profile, which I really enjoy. I also agree that it's just a pleasant, friendly whiskey that doesn't demand attention and just compliments whatever you're doing.
So, I poured one of these and sipped it while watching. I like this whiskey. However, I'd just finished watching your favored Irish whiskies video for 2020, and now must make time to run out tomorrow for a Yellow Spot. The store where I go also has the Chateau Montelena, but at the same price I guess the Yellow Spot is the better choice. Thanks for the very straightforward reviews, and cheers.
My favorite lower mid tier priced whiskey. It's smooth as a babies tushy! It's £37 ($51) here though. The US is getting a bargain at $33! I believe our bottles are smaller too, at 700ml.
I can tell a lot about what you think about Jameson Black Barrel by just looking at that bottle! :) Not a pretentious whiskey, but certainly a fun and defined one.
Also thanks to your reviews, I picked up some Green Spot, and plan on sampling it with my Adult Son (He works for a Mead distilling copmany) over the Holidays. Cheers
I like the Irish whisky videos. Trying to decide my next bottle - green spot or redbreast. I love green apples but people rave about the redbreast . . . .
I'd like your thoughts on how this compares with black bush. I think I've had this Jamison once, but it was a while ago. I typically lean towards Bushmills when shopping for a low end Irish whiskey.
Great review! Are there others in the same category as 'session' like whiskeys such as Black Barrel? I've been drinking Black Barrel and Caskmates: Stout for some time and haven't found any that drink as easy as these. I keep coming back to them. Elijah Craig Small Batch comes close.
Spot on with your review. 👌 you can drink a lot and feel a bit tipsy but without any side effects.. Btw did you reviewed a scotch whiskey cald deanston 12 years?
Hey! I really love your videos, great content. Do you have a recommendation for someone who has no experience what so ever? It can be expensive, I just want to make sure I start with a good one ;) cheers!
No experience whatsoever? Hmm... Not to plug my other videos but I have two that will help. Definitive beginner guide to bourbon Definitive beginner guide to scotch Search for either and see what you think. If you want more help just ask :)
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary I am also working from home and it sucks. I work for a large water utility in CT and we all have been ordered to work from home. Stay safe. Cheers
I've been wanting to to explore Irish whiskey (and scotch), but the price is a difficult pill to swallow. Seems like most "entry level" Irish & Scotch is in the $30-$35 range, while I can get "good" bourbon for that same price, or less. Oh well. Hobbies can be expensive I guess.
I'm only a year late with my comment. lol But nice review, I've never had any Irish whiskey, but now I'm looking forward to both this and the stout caskmates version. Hmmmm, it's Friday, maybe a short trip to the liquor store is in order....
I am boycotting jameson, you know when James sligo jameson was touring Africa he came across a group of cannibals and bought them a 10 year old girl to watch her being eaten by them, I will never let jameson whiskey into my house ever again, disgusting and deeply distressed about this.
Got a bit of a shock when I heard this and was absolutely appalled, but I realized that I was wrong to say I'm boycotting it, because of something that happened years ago, just very sad that it happened.
I'm with you there. I just try to remember that things are always held in the view of the day. It was probably appalling back then, but to judge the past with today's eyes is folly. Nobody left with Jameson had anything to do with it and in fact, Jameson single handedly saved the Irish Whiskey industry. It's a pretty cool story actually!
i really dislike this one, the fact i paid nearly 50 for it (42euros) probably plays a part. I think that the regular jameson without the metalic aftertaste would be much better.
For 35$ is a great buy black barrels Jameson it makes me happy when I drink it .
Coming from an Irishman, thanks for giving some of our whiskey the exposure it deserves - we’re almost ignored by lots of whiskey review channels and websites. Sláinte🇮🇪
Thank you for your whiskey, Im still new to whiskey, but so far between bourbon, scotch and Irish, I like the Irish whiskeys best
I prefer Irish whiskey over Scotch.
Happy to give it the exposure it deserves!
I'm new also to whiskey , and between trying scotch, bourbon and irish single pot , so far I prefer irish single pot.
Which are the main differences in taste between irish single malt , irish single pot and irish blended whiskey ?
Bill I classify whiskey three ways, mixer, drinker, sipper. Jameson is a solid drinker everytime. Great review as always
Thanks Charles!
As a whiskey newbie, having the whiskeys and bourbons ranked that way would make it so much easier to pick out a few to try.
Jameson BB is my go to for the price and enjoyability. Cheers!
Nailed it once again Bill. What I really like about this one is that it drinks much better in terms of flavour and depth than most 80 proof whiskeys. Take care and stay safe. Cheers.

I still enjoy regular Jameson on the rocks every now and then, so this one sounds like it's worth checking out.
Look for the gift sets it comes with two glasses for like 35 bucks
Jameson and gingeralw is the way to go
i totally agree with you on it being easy. I buy a bottle, pour myself some half a glencairn and just go about my stuff and suddenly im just like "wait, where's my whiskey gone to?". happens far too often. now i understand since everyone feels the same way. nice vid
That happens far too often in my life!
Glad you enjoyed it and that some of that reasoning came from it being just a simple whiskey, not pompous. Take care!
I just finished off my bottle of Jameson Black last night, good stuff and I hope to buy more of it sometime in the future.
I actually am trying this for the first time. I got a toffee and sweet fruit taste. Very smooth and enjoyable. Sláinte...🥃😋👍👍
Coming from a Jim bean lover, I actually get a hint of fruit and baking spice on the nose and taste. Much easier to drink straight than beam 8.

It is almost too easy to drink lol. A bottle can empty in no time. Lol

Definitely a ⚠️

I wrestled between the two and decided on the Black Barrel. Stout next time. 💪🏾
I really enjoy this one, it is wonderful to enjoy, it is easy sweet and butterscotchy to me. I could not drink 4 in 1.5 hours but it is yum.
Smooth, floral, buttery, mild bite. Great price for the quality. 🥃
My go to Irish Whisky is Tullamore DEW. I forget how simple and enjoyable this one is.

Easily my current favorite jameson!!!
Black Barrel is my favorite cask mate from Jameson

I wish more pubs carried this in addition to the basic Jameson’s
I can tell a lot about what you think about Jameson Black Barrel by just looking at that bottle! :) Not a pretentious whiskey, but certainly a fun and defined one.
My favorite is Caskmates Stout edition. One dram leads to two, leads to 5... wait, how the hell did that happen?
Relatable
I love Black Barrel and Stout Barrel.
My favorite whiskey .
Agree fully, this is just the easiest to get stuck into
Thank you fella. When I need to know anything for particular whiskey 🥃 I check your channel :)
Thats great! I'm glad I can be a good resource for you
Do agree with your opinion on this one. Surprisingly a very Nice dram by Jameson
I just bought this one. I’m going to try it tonight. 2023 it’s $40 now😮
Still a good price for it

@The Whiskey Dictionary one of my favorites, but first time to notice the flavors as you have described them, in particular the two types of wood.

Sad to hear
