3 years late but I feel you on the suddenly drinking four or five 😆 This bottle always reminds me why I love whiskey in particular. It's a subtle change from a crowd and I swear I was getting a dark chocolate note as well. Love what Tilling offers!
Excellent review. Never apologize for having to do so much research that half the bottle is gone! This series on Irish whiskeys is helping me branch out from my regular Jamison’s that I mix with ginger ale! Keep up the great work!
Hi Bill, really enjoyed your review. I picked this up from airport duty free sometime mid of last year, purely out of curiosity. Batch 12/207. It was definitely a pleasant surprise. The 46% ABV & rum cask finish is perhaps what makes this a pleasant fruity expression.
A great value Irish whiskey which offers something a wee bit different and is, as you say, dangerously easy to drink!. In general, I'm a fan of Teeling and the way they do things. I know it can be a bit much at times, but their marketing and social media presence is second to none and probably has helped to build the brand significantly. What impresses me about it is the fact they are extremely responsive and and I reckon that helps to build a nice bond with consumers. Cheers Bill.
Was talked into buying this from a distributor representative who was in the store. FOR THE MONEY the really is a steal and more solid than some budget whiskeys I've encountered
Currently enjoying Teeling's Single Malt. You need to get your chops around that one, Bill! REALLY enjoying all the different Irish reviews. Thanks for what you're doing in these days for us all! Stay safe and healthy, you and yours. :)
Goes for about $20 here in the Philippines, but I got mine bundled with the Single Grain and Single Pot Still for $92 (taxes included). Love that they're 46%. All 3 totally worth it!
If anyone out there has not tasted an Irish whiskey then this would be an excellent place to start. On the value for money scale it is outstanding. Regrettably, it is $40 near me. As for the history of Cooley distillery it is quite amazing that the Teelings were able to get away with that deal. They sold the distillery to Jim Beam WITHOUT the warehouse contents which guaranteed Teeling the ability to start trading immediately and denied Jim Beamthe chance to go into full sales from the start. It kind of takes away the whole point of buying the distillery if you are so generous to your vendor and surrender the best trading stock. Oh well. Suntory now run Cooley and seem to be content with dominating the wholesale market rather than making an impact on the retail market. Today their main business is selling whole barrels of whiskey to the little guys. The retail side of the old Cooley business now languishes in obscurity due to lack of attention. eg Kilbeggan released a new whiskey and it took their website two months to catch up and actually mention it. Perhaps there is too much money in selling by the barrel.
Bill I agree 100% on the ease of drinking, this is the only bottle I have on my bar that my wife can sip and not make a face, not to mention continue to sip
Hey Bill, great review. This for me is one of my favorite everyday kind of Irish Irish whiskey's, it's just so approachable and easy to drink with still some really nice complexity all for around $30. Cheers!
Thanks for the review and the recommendation, I picked up a bottle today and I’m impressed. Totally worth it! FYI I highly suggest anything from Powers distillery
Bought a bottle of this about a year ago. When I first opened it, it was meh to me. After letting it open up for 3 months, I went back and I actually enjoyed it a lot more. Weird how some whiskey needs that open air time while others don't.
You pay a bit more than we do here in the Philippines. This is my go to whisky for about half a year already and we get it for about US$22.50 equiv only. Great review. I get most of the notes that you pick up. Cheers!
Nice review and on point. On my 4th bottle of this and drank quite a bit when in Ireland last year. Have not gone through all their offerings but your REC on them tell me I should. Thanks, Bill.
Great review and I've enjoyed your series on Irish whiskey this month. I will have to pick up a bottle of this small batch! I just subscribed and watched a bunch of you content. Keep up the good work.
Just picked it up, defenetely missed a lot of notes, because I'm a beginner taster. However, I've been experimenting with whiskeys and especially Irish whiskey. So while this is a very nice drink, defenetely won't become my go-to. Readbreast 12 is a bit more expensive but it just offers so much more, I'm willing to pay the gap between the two.
Green spot is my favourite Irish whiskey. But having said that teeling comes in very close to it for me. A fine whiskey at a very good price, at about $55 Canadian where I am, so that’s comparable to what your paying in US dollars. Would be interested in a review of the single malt if you haven’t already 🥃
I tried 3 different Teeling whiskies at an airport, and they were all great :D Couldn't go wrong with any of them in my opinion. Also to add, I'm not usually a fan of Irish Whiskies as I find them too light, I found this one more complex and flavoursome than most.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Agreed. We have had what we thought was all 3 different Teeling varieties but we’re very intrigued by the “Single Pot Still”. Would you have a good idea of how we can inquire its locations near us? We are in Lansing, MI area but Detroit Metro is only an hour away
A lot of times their websites have a way to see what's near you, but that's not always. If you have e a really goof liquor store near you, something owned by an individual, you can usually ask them to help you find something and order it for you
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary This is especially spot on, considering my wife’s suggestion last night to call our local guy that knows our order when we walk in. We did so and he has it on the way! Off topic, but the better half mentioned wanting to try the Jameson Orange that has recently shown up at our local spots. I happened to take a closer look the other day and noticed the 70 proof; In my past experiences, when this is the case and flavoring is involved, the product comes off to me as tasting much too sugary. Have you tried it, and if so, is this the case here with the Jameson Orange as well? Would like to avoid wasting a bottle. Thanks, bud. I subscribed today and thoroughly enjoy both your videos and our short chats
Below 25 euro's here in the Netherlands. Someone drank this blindfolded and thought it was a tequila...not a strange comment in my opinion. As mentioned below, I also think that it tastes better if you open the bottle and let some air in.
the worst whisk(e)y neck pour i ever had in my life. totally overwhelming in-your-face absolutely unmasked pungent ethanol made me almost throw up, my thoughts at the moment were "omg, the last time i felt something like this was the cheapest ass vodka i drank as a teenager in the 90s. thank god i paid just $25 for this shite". i couldn't even finish that dram first i thought something was wrong with my bottle (after the yt reviews i watched before buying), but then i checked out the whiskybase, and almost every comment there mentioned strong sharp disgusting alcohol etc but after a couple of weeks when i came back to this bottle, and allowed my dram to rest some 15 minutes before even touching it, it was actually quite nice. wouldn't recommend or buy again, even if it's ok and, to be honest, somewhat enjoyable after all, i probably won't ever forget that nasty neck pour and it spoils most of enjoyment for me
Low 30's USD? Lmao! I have to pay almost 100 CAD for this whiskey as of Nov., 2024. Probably won't be buying it at that price. Inflation is so crazy these days @The Whiskey Dictionary.
Your list of distilleries that have yet to upon up seems a bit out of date. Hinch, Lough Ree, Irish American, Skellig Six18 and Nephin Whiskey all have operating distilleries by now, however are not always releasing their own distilled whiskey yet
This was a combination of me not doing a great job explaining my point, and a time in my life where the marketing team at my work was annoying me. Basically I was trying to say that their product is great, but their marketing feels forced and very buzzwordy

Totally agree with your opinion, for a 92 proof/non-chill filtered whiskey the value is incredible. A favourite of mine because I also love rum.
Agree, this is a steal. I have stocked this and have a backup bottle. I’ve also shared with friends and work colleagues and they have all loved it.
Definitely an underrated whiskey at a great value.👍
it is such at a great price point that I can't really suggest anything else that is as good in that category, maybe Tomatin Legacy

I love this whisky. Also a big fan of the detailed information on the label, wish all distillers did that

This one is running $40 now near me in NY. I've only sampled it and like it a lot.

Thank you Richard! We have been hunkered down but it’s been ok. Hope you’re doing well too!
October 6,2020 - sipping on a dram of Teeling Small Batch, comparing notes. I totally agree on the raisin notes, almost seems like a sherry cask.
I saw you were going to be researching those. Happy to be part of your research

Great video. You should do a video on the history on how nearly all distilleries were bought up. Like a corporate merger history
The small batch is one of my favorite whiskeys. Want to try their new Single Pot and the Single Malt

Totally it’s interesting that that happens but thankfully it does!
After reading your remarks, I feel sure I will buy one.....Seems this whisky is so unique!!!
Whiskey novice here - when you say letting it open, you mean no lid exposed to air for a few months?
Open in the bottle is to open the bottle, drink a little bit over time. Exchange the air let out some ethanol.
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Much appreciated. Great channel!
Great background my friend helps me enjoy the product. Fantastic review.
just bought a bottle, and loved it! Really liked the rum finish..

Bring on the saturation. I'm looking forward to some affordable and unique Irish single malts!
Honky Tonkinson teeling does a single malt

I finished off the Connemara and I think this is the next one.

I like Teeling. If you like Greenspot, you'll like Teeling small batch. A little spicer finish.
Wow, just dropped my 🎥 of this last week. Birds of a feather my man. 👍🏾
Excellent video as usual. Which would you say is the best Irish whiskey to buy under 40 dollars?
Ooo tough call, this is in the running for sure. Without knowing your tastes it’s hard to say. Try them all!

had a bottle of this so did an opening tasting along with ya. good review
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Bill! Very tasty, honest and affordable, $30 here, dram. Cheers! Would recommend Barrell Whiskey Irish Whiskey if you can find it.
The single grain is amazing
Haven’t tried it yet Bill but sounds good-Thanks for the review 🥃

My wife and I have been drinking Small Batch Teeling for 6-7 years now. We actually prefer it to Johnnie Blue, as sacreligious as it sounds.
Not at all. JW Blue is one of the most overrated whiskies in existence

Hello great review this is going for $65 in New Jersey is it worth it
***BOOM***
I bought this for £45 (around $60) last month in London airport
Too much marketing? What does that mean? A website’s only function is for marketing
There's a difference between marketing to get your name out there, and having overt marketing that just sounds like B.S.
