    "High school is fun." I didn't have that experience at all but good for her honestly.

      LOL yes, I think it was the FANTASY of high school instead of the reality! (Though I must admit that even though I couldn't wait to leave high school at the time, looking back, for me it wasn't that bad.😜)

    I received Starr for my 9th birthday in 1979 - I even have a picture of her amongst my gifts. I also had the disco purse! I have to admit I was a Barbie girl, (still am) and although I enjoyed my Starr doll, my heart belonged to Barbie! I no longer have Starr but I still have my Superstar Barbie! ⭐

  • @Scotty-Z70
    @Scotty-Z70 10 месяцев назад +5

    YES!!! I still have my original STARR that i bought at ZAYRE store when i was a child. I wanted them all, but couldn't afford them. They weren't cheap, but they were worth the quality.

    • @fashiondolldreamer
      @fashiondolldreamer  10 месяцев назад +1

      That's so cool that you had them back then! I really wanted them too, but somehow never managed to get them. Probably because I had already spent all my pocket money on Barbie! 😜

      and i was always spending on Micronauts and Comic books. I liked too many things..too many wonderful, wonderful things. I often say "if i went back to age 10, I'd only buy __________________-" fill in the blank with whatever I'm thinking of at the time, because it will change the next day.@@fashiondolldreamer

    Great video. I liked hearing a little about the background. I have Star and Kelley, as well as a few fashions. I hope to add the others as well. I bought Kelley unopened but unfortunately due to age, one of the pegs in her hands is starting to crumble.

    Wonderful review!
    These dolls were very interesting because they were defined as "teenagers".
    Barbie was sold as a "teen aged fashion model", but in the beginning, she never looked like a teenaged girl.
    In 1967, Barbie finally did look like a teenager. She sort of simultaneously occupied the teen girl and young adult, maybe college aged and then mid 20s.
    Starr and her friends were specifically and strictly high school teens.
    Again, great review!

    • @fashiondolldreamer
      @fashiondolldreamer  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks so much!!! :) I totally agree... Even though Barbie was a 'Teenage Fashion Model' (and actually looked like one in 1967 to fit the youthful vibe of the time... even though I always thought that Superstar Barbie and Ken looked to be in their early 20s at least... and I'm sure high school was no longer on their minds! LOL) Starr and her gang were strictly teenage high school students.

    You need to do a video of the record! But I guess I will get to hear it live anyway! These dolls are cool, but I have to be honest... They kinda give me the creeps! 😨 I can't put my finger on it but they not only make me think of Carrie but also Halloween and Fame (not very scary but has it's moments). kelley is definitely my fave of the bunch. Still can't believe you got into these! I wish we could hear that story from when you were a kid! 💖

    • @fashiondolldreamer
      @fashiondolldreamer  10 месяцев назад +1

      LOL I have to stick the record down onto the turntable with double-sided tape for it to play!!!! 😜 It also always stops halfway through, so it's not as great to play as the Sindy record. Funny that you mentioned Carrie as there is a blue prom dress in her fashion line that instantly made me think of the horror prom scene from that movie! LOL (Let's recreate it in pics if I ever get that dress! LOL) I remember that I also used a Dire Straits instrumental as her theme song for my makeshift cassette tape story ... and I forced my brother to provide the voice of Shaun, which he reluctantly did! LOL

    I was 8 in 1980 and this was the height of my Barbie Life. But I also loved Starr!! My friend Laurie got her for Christmas (the package w the silver disco purse no less!!) but I never got her, unfortunately . I loved her shiny outfit and curly hair!! Omg is that Jenilee Harrison in those two commercials!? lol!! 😅

    I LOVE Starr! She's so gorgeous and I love that a few of the molds were reused for the Jazzie line (Kelley's face for Heart Family mom and Jazzie, Tracy's face for Chelsea, and hips & legs for all the girls)! It's unfortunate that everyone but Starr is so expensive...especially Tracy x.x

      Yes, even when she was marketed as a 'teenage fashion model' in the beginning, she looked much older ... (but then again, a lot of models looked way older back in the 50's. Mademoiselle magazine ran a story in 1959 on the 'top teenage models' of the day and they all looked like they were in their 30s! 😂 ) But by the 70's Mattel seemed to have abandoned all that for Barbie.... though there was that infamous 'Teen Talk' Barbie in the 90's I guess.

    I've gotten lucky enough to acquire a couple of Starrs locally in flea markets, in still great shape. I also found one of her friends, but the smile was truly so frightening on the doll I skipped buying it. Wouldn't want that scary thing on my doll shelves. LOL Starr is a pretty doll and I think it's such a cute line of dolls now since it's so innocent and sweet. I liked your video, but may I make a suggestion? Could you not play music in the background with words. Some people have sensitivity to the music playing in the background if there are words, like in the Starr record song. To them it becomes annoying noise making it harder for them to hear you talk about the doll in the foreground. Because the sound all kind of runs together and competes. And yes, I am unfortunately one of those people who deals with that. Most people just focus their hearing on what they most want to hear and the other fades into the background, but unfortunately I can't do that. And I like to hear what you have to say about the doll since you know your stuff. Before I realized it was the little Starr flexidisc playing, I thought you'd left your TV on in the background.😉
