    Of course you know how great your Telecaster sounds, and I can only agree with you. My main comment is how happy you are playing it. You have to love a man who is happy in his work. Thanks for sharing the love.

    That is a Jack Russell Terrier on the headstock. Merle has had many of these dogs over the years. Their names have been "Tuffy".

    @groovydjs  11 лет назад +1

    Same here. I know most guys don't like the gold or the Pearloid, but I love it too. Just classy as all hell! lol You are right, it just puts it in a league of its own. A true eye catcher. Bling is my thing!

  • @groovydjs

    I hear you my man. I love a 12" or more radius on the fretboard. This is one of those axes that will more than likely hang there and look pretty. lol I'll let it go out to a few gigs and wrestle with it and let it do it's thing. I do TONS of Merle in my show. Nobody in the audience will ever make the connection to the guitar, but it will somehow feel groovy to be playing it during his tunes.

    Thanks so much my friend! I love my work for sure! Most people think I'm miserable in it. They mistake my passion for misery. lol I absolutely love everything about guitars. Thanks much and all my best to you!

    LMAO. Thanks many. Yeah, very lucky to land this one for sure. I never thought I would get one either. That sucks about granny man. Mine is on the verge of leaving me too. I feel for you. All my best bro!

    Hi there Mike, Yeah, you can just put in PEDAL STEEL on my channel and they will pop up. The lap steels don't need to be intonated at all. There's nothing to ever fret, so...no need to even set them up as far as the bridges go.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад +1

    Thanks so very much my friend. It is really a sweet axe and a nice combination of the vintage and the new. They really put some real work into these.

    Love it man! I've been waiting forever for someone to do a review on one of these! Thanks

    It seems that the whole world is crazy over the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster right now. They are going nuts over them. They are really the best deal going. They got it right with those things and they are actually a lot better than a lot of the USA Telecasters. So, the best bang for your buck for sure right now. You can never go wrong with the Mexican Tele's either. Again, every bit as good as the USA stuff. Buy used and save hundreds and still get one in mint shape!

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thanks Gary. Thanks for reminding me about that tune too! I was trying to think of it just a couple of days ago. I have it in my "To Do" list from our last conversation. I'll try to remember to get on that one tonight. Yeah, Merle still sounds great. It's superb that he is still around with us. Always a great show with the Hag! He never lets us down!

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад +1

    Thanks much. People ONLY prefer Nitro because they read in a magazine that they are SUPPOSED to like it better. They would know MUCH different if they simply owned one of each.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад +1

    The whole Electra / Westone line were cool guitars back in the day. Much better than most that are put out now. I've never had any problems with Westone guitars at all. As long as they were made over there in Japan and were still owned by S.L.M., everything was always great with them. I don't even know who owns that whole thing now. I know that a bunch of $79.00 Crate/Electra guitars came out a couple years ago. I don't know if they carried the Westone name down the drain with them though.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thanks man. Yeah, Merle is the man for sure and an amazing axe! One of those guitars I never thought I would be able to get, but there she is and I couldn't be more proud.

    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thanks man. Yeah, it's quite the groovy mix of all things cool. You already knew what it would sound like before I plugged it in. lol You know these types of things better than I do. I'm glad you dig this one! It's a special, little guy.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад +1

    Yep, I've always loved the T-60's. Superb axes. You would think that they would've put binding on at least one side of the axe. Axes that cost $99.00 even have fake double binding. lol

  • @kammhron
    @kammhron 11 лет назад +1

    Awesome axe. Lucky you! Love that dirty Tele sound.!

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    The bridge is perfect. 6 saddles, the big block ones, the best bridges they could've used. But yeah, the jack placement on the Tele's are always going to suck balls. lol

  • @the.family.channel

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад +1

    Thank very much my friend. Yeah, I have no idea where they get the prices from. Peavey did a Tele style axe called the Generation S-3. It was one of their USA made axes and you can still get them for next to nothing on eBay and they are every bit as good as these are. No doubt about it. Talk about expensive....I just bought a 1964 Gibson Firebird V today for $14,500.00 and I already know that the bridge is in the wrong place (just like my explorer) and so much more. lol Just gotta laugh.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thanks very much my friend. Yeah, this one gets some attitude when you really push it. I like that overdriven front end sound that this axe forces on the preamp. It comes out snarling out of the amp. lol Who would've thought that Merle would want a bit of a hot rod axe? lol

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thank you very much. I had a good time pickin' too! Glad you enjoyed it as I noodled around. lol

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thanks my friend. Yeah, you're right. I NEVER touch ANY knobs on guitars, but those Texas Specials are BRIGHT! lol. So, I had to tame them quickly, so that seemed to be the quickest way to take care of that. lol

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thanks my friend. Yeah, it looks a lot like the Kotzen model. I actually like the contours on the Kotzen model. The Telecasters have always cut off my circulation to my right arm and they always cut into my gut too. So, the more contouring, the better! lol

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thanks my friend. You are right, I'm not a fan of the Texas Specials at all. 3 of the Lace Sensors from those JB Teles in this axe would be amazing. Nope, I didn't keep a single JB. I should have, of course. lol The guy who bought my favorite one of all of them, really doesn't care that he got it. He says he may or may not play it....blah, blah, blah. He just doesn't realize how special that one is. Kind of makes me sad to have given up my old buddy to some putz! lol

  • @groovydjs

    I just hate how the nitro finish comes off on your hands, on your shirt, on your guitar stand, they way that it NEVER dries and has tons of checking all over it when it's only a few years old. It never looks smooth, like glass. It is just a horrible method of finishing anything. I've never seen any type of cracks on a Poly finish before. I just don't knock them around I guess. Yeah, I went through a phase (still going through it 20 years later) where everything that sucked "BLOWS DOG"! lol

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thank you! Yeah, this is in a league of it's own for sure. Just different enough and still a Tele. Classy!

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    That's typical. People pass off the parts guitars all the time. As long as it works for you, I wouldn't worry about it unless you bought it from a friend, then I'd pound his head in. lol As long as nothing moves in the neck pocket and the neck stay's put, there's no big deal at all. I've had 100% stock guitars with huge gaps in the neck pocket and they sustained forever. So, if it's all GROOVY, play the hell out of it and enjoy it.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    LOL, I know! It does it fine though. You never hear of that radius in these modern days. That was what they all were way back in the good old days and I remember them well. It was always a pain trying to get them set up just right. At least you have the nice, 6 saddles so that the setup is actually POSSIBLE to make it happen. That was always the problem with the 3 barrel saddles (besides the impossible intonation too...lol).

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Thanks my friend. I'll have to go pull up that old theme song and see how it is subconsciously creeping into my licks! Cheers my man!

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    I hear you my friend. I hate those 3 saddle bridges too. I do have a video on my very favorite cheap guitars and 2 of them are AMAZING and will put the most expensive guitars to shame. Those are the Peavey T-27 and the PRS SE EG. Both are long discontinued and can be had on eBay for about $300.00 in perfect condition. They are honestly better than any of the other guitars available at any price. Here's that video: watch?v=2qJiKFIaS7s

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад +1

    You are exactly right. They didn't make one in the 50's or 60's, so no stoner ever got to appear with it on an album cover for all to go "OOOH - AHHHH" over and to wait until Gibson could put out a REISSUE of the guitar that made THAT sound on THAT album. Only to find out that THAT person didn't use THAT guitar while recording, only for the album picture. lol People are pretty crazy. lol

    Those things are cool! Now the new version is out and it's got the features that I wish that mine had on it. So, I may sell this one off and get the new one. Gotta have the cool, new effects buttons. They would make all the difference in the world for me in live situations.

    Not a single guitar in your collection made me hate you until right now lol. Lucky bastard. My departed granny was going to get me my dream guitar, this one. Alas, she passed before it happened. Enjoy bro, it is awesome.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    That is true too. It's hard to figure, especially with the neck serial number being what it is. Fender is not very slick when it comes to keeping serial numbers correct. Even on the Custom Shop models. You would think that for this price that they would kind of make sure that everything easily matches up instead of looking like it came from 3 different years. lol That's just Fender for you.

    The Blueshawks were actually pretty cool guitars. One of the BETTER guitars that Gibson ever put out, that's why they went away. The ones that they DO GET RIGHT, the Gibson snobs don't like them. Too bad really. So, they keep cranking out the same old garbage.

  • @PanamaJack666
    @PanamaJack666 11 лет назад +1

    How come you're not a nitro fan? I don't like the egg shell type cracks poly finishes get when you knock the guitar about (which I tend to do very often!).
    Blows dog. Brilliant.

    musiciansfriend and guitar center are pretty much the same company, both are owned by Bain Capital along with music123, so if musiciansfriend has this guitar it would be likely that guitar center would also have it,

  • @PanamaJack666
    @PanamaJack666 11 лет назад

    Fair enough! Because the majority seem to prefer nitro (especially with all the poly - nitro finishes that get done) then the poly guitars will probably be quite rare one day!
    Keep up the good work on the channel. I really enjoy your uploads dude.
    Gotta say, I'm quite jealous. I wish I guitar fort to live in!

    Hey Scott, it's great to see you're back at accumulating new axes and putting up mad videos.
    And yes, I agree with kinggeno32 - string gauges are a fascinating subject and, even though I know you have strong feelings on that subject, I would love to hear you talk about it in detail, as I have tried everything from 10s to 13s, experimented with alternate and near-baritone tunes, and all that stuff.
    I also appreciate your debunking of the whole semi-hollow thing - another red herring I got off on.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Yeah, I'm sure that's it. It sometimes takes them more than 10 years to use a neck that they have already put serial numbers on. I've had a few of them. In one case, I had a 1994 and a 2006 James Burton Tele and the serial numbers were only 3 numbers apart. lol Pretty cool though.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    LOL, yeah, you're right, I forgot to bitch about SOMETHING. lol. I really don't have any complaints about it. It simply is what it is. It could be a better guitar for ME, but it's not MY signature model. So, with that in mind, it is actually a really cool axe.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    Sure thing my friend. I'll order in some other strings. I'll do a spoiler alert....there is no difference in the tone of different gauges of strings (except on acoustic guitars). Just play what FEELS good, because the tone won't change. Only use heavier strings if you tune down to Eb or something like that. That is the ONLY reason SRV used 13 gauge strings, because he tuned the whole guitar down a half step & the tension felt better with the heavier strings under that type of thing.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад +2

    Nope, it's really no different at all than a $300.00 guitar. I've had $300.00 guitars that I liked MUCH better than this one actually.

  • @moimasiclat
    @moimasiclat 11 лет назад

    Gold hardware and Pearloid buttons are probably my guitar fetish. Every guitar which have them I immediately love aesthetically. It probably stemmed from my liking of John Mayer, his guitar and his playing. About this guitar though, wow. I'm not a huge Tele guy but it just looks like a league of its own. So classy.

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 лет назад

    I don't prefer any brand at all. I would simply expect the two big names to be able to at least get things right, but they are messing up more than ever. I smell disaster for both of them. I would say that Paul Reed Smith gets it right more than any other BIG BRAND names out there. I have yet to run across a problem with any of them actually.

    Scott, don't you think the serial number discrepancy might be due to the guitar's initial start in the manufacturing stream (body plank receiving a project number), and the final certificate date of 6/6/05 being final completion? Sort of the idea that the champaign ceremony ship launch isn't the final fitting day, which may be many months later. Just a guess...

    Ok I'll look for it . Probley under something like Make pedal steel sounds on guitar. I'm guessing. Just watched your pedal steel lesson on the 64 gb flash. Real neat . I have a lap steel tuned to c6 and I've used the flash to learn on that too. It's just a cheap Rouge. I plan to build one in b4 long . Better tuners , PU... What about intonation on a lap ? I see some with just a straight bar/bridge others with adjustable saddles !! Maybe you could touch on that in a future lesson . Thanks Mike

    Hey Scott, nice vid! This Tuff Dog Tele's appearance reminds me a lot of the MIJ Richie Kotzen Tele that Fender finally started selling in the U.S. Even though you're a country guy, the RK Tele looks like something that would be sort of up up your alley. Do you have any opinions or experience with this model?

    That'd be a useful vid. I often wonder if I should go down to 8s because I struggle to get Dave Gilmour style triple bends even on 9 gauge. Is it down to the strings, or because I'm shit LOL. It's not the strength of my hands, because I have an insanely strong grip and fingers.

    I thought it was something pretty cool and unique. You dont see a lot of people playing them, probably cause thier "hereos" never did, lol. I tried buying it from him, but he wanted to keep it as a relic though he rarely plays, maybe he'll change his mind someday.

    Lovely axe Scott! A question....I have a Telecaster that I bought a few years back, turns out that the damn thing has been built from parts of different guitars! The body doesn't even fit the neck properly, the neck pocket is way to big, cant believe I hadn't noticed that upon purchase. I guess what I am asking is would that effect the tone in any negative way; I am guessing it won't based on your past videos. The sustain of the instrument (unplugged) sounds just fine. Thoughts? lol

    hell i like the relic stuff but if i want one im sure as hell not going to get a custom shop fender one they charge any were from 3-10grand for a guitar that literly has no finsh atleast the gibson custum shop just ages the parts hardware and finish and binding etc and fender custom dose that to the guitarded thing fender dose is charges more for a guitar that looks like its been played for 40 years,dragged down the road and in some cases set on fire.

    lol saw that on facebook too($500 car meme). What do you know/think of gibson blueshawks? I just had to give one back to a friend that lent it to me for awhile. Not too much about those on the internet. I believe it was a '97. Np if youre too busy to answer this question.
