Robin, I love that you use EVERYTHING you have. You don’t waste a single piece of fabric. I’ll have to try these. I can think of all the possibilities.
I am going to save my little bitty scraps for my little niece to arrange them on cards and teach her how to sew. My nephew would probably enjoy making them too.
I’m sure the little kids would love arranging scraps. If it’s easier for the kids they can use a glue stick to hold the fabric in place while they design their project. Or you can use a larger piece of interfacing for them to layout their designs and then cut It into several cards. That’s what I do sometimes especially if I have larger scraps. Have fun!!
I just picked up some fat quarters to make Valentines for a few folks. I’m looking forward to trying this approach for some other cards. Your laid back approach and wonderful sense of humor are delightful. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Thank you so much. I wanted my channel to feel like a bunch of friends sitting at the table creating things. Laughing and sharing their lives and what they’re working on. I love making scrappy fabric cards. It’s fun to try new variations.
I see lots of opportunity for these cards... Holiday fabric for the holidays.. Use novelty fabrics for those special occasions.. Birthdays, anniversaries.. Etc. Even if it's a card just to case hello.. You can fussy cut pieces to create a card too. Thanks Robin!!
That’s what I was thinking Laura. Not everyone is going to be interested in the fussiness of tiny scraps but the technique can work for larger pieces of fabric too.
Fun! love what you did to show us ideas/ as you talk about the stuffwith thin fusible and how you did the stitching, really makes it’s a process. Thanks a bunch and using those pink shears gives a finished for your scrappy Art. love it!

Just had an idea. Use a scrap of fusible batting or fusible fleece in a size large enough to create multiple cards. Iron down the fabric and quilt the entire thing, then cut out each postcard from the quilted scrap. I don't think the bottom card would be needed and if it bothers you that the fusible batting/fleece might show, then use a marker to color the edge of it and it would look like a frame.
Great tip. I have started doing It that way. It’s much quicker. I usually start with a simple idea and then go crazy with It. I made a rainbow scrap version during a live stream a few moths ago. It was a lot of fun to create while chatting with the community. m.ruclips.net/video/zmgIp5bVJMU/видео.html
I use a length of fusible interfacing almost as long as my table. It uses up a lot of my smaller scraps. I’m always surprised when I can empty a small bin of scraps in one session. Have fun!!
@@rsislandcrafts Just re-watched the video to refresh myself on your techniques. I mentioned in the past I have a rotary pinking blade - I can't remember, but did you ever do a tut on using one? Also, I was thinking I would do the top stitching before cutting with the pinking shears ✂ then you wouldn't see the return stitching at the edge of the fabric - just a thought 🦩🦩
I haven’t bought a pinking blade yet. I forget and then remember when I work on a set of cards again 🤣 When I made the recent set of 52 cards I did It differently. I don’t remember what’s in this video. This time I pulled a length of the fusible interfacing that was long enough to fit my table and be divisible by my finished scrappy card sizes. I later put my scraps until It was covered. Pressed It well. Cut strips. Stitched the strips to hold down the scraps. Cut to card size and then three rows of stitching to hold It onto the small bit of card stock that I use to adhere It to the actual card. Then pinked the edges. All straight line stitching that basically runs off the edge of the cards. So far I like this new mega process.
@@rsislandcrafts Yes, I guessed when you made a large sheet then cut them individually you would get a quicker/better finish. I was just thinking about if I made the odd one then that's what I would do. I have lots of small scraps and plenty of cheap fusible interfacing,🤪 so nothing to stop me
Always worth a try. I like the idea of using printer paper. As long as once it’s on the actual card It isn’t floppy. I haven’t tried anything different. I’ve tweaked the scrappy fabric bit over the years but I haven’t tried changing anything else. If you try It I’d love to hear how It worked for you.

Hi back this year for some more help. Did you sew around the edge of that straight quilted one to hold it in place or just pink it....back stitch it? Last year I made one but sewed around the edge after straight line quilting it....want nothing to come apart! Still a reaaaal newbie here. Also I can't make a zig zag edge work...to close or to far from edge Stitch length and and ndl position always just off. Have a great weekend! and thanks for sharing
Since the fabric scraps are attached to a fusible interfacing I don’t stitch around the edges. When I do the straight stitching I make sure there is a line of stitching on the left and right edges of the cardstock. I also lay the double stick tape on the edges of the card stock. In the end it’s just a card and while you and I may treasure It most people may not. Plus, It shouldn’t be “manhandled” very much. I have seen cards and fabric postcards here they’ve done a stitch around the outer edge. I hope that helps.

You’re very welcome. We see so many gorgeous perfect quilts online that when we see our own we pale in comparison. I was raised to mend my clothes and not just throw them away and go buy new. I just wish I knew how to sew back then. It’s okay though because I’m having fun playing with my scraps now. You’ve learned how to get the most out of your yarn and where to find the best deals and with time you’ll figure out this sewing thing too.
The double sided roll of tape does seem to have a firm hold. I don’t have much experience with double sided tape so I can’t say if it’s stronger than any other type. It’s meant for scrap booking 🤷♀️ I love playing with scraps and trying different ways to use them. I don’t save near as many scraps as I have in the past. I’ve learned to be a bit more particular about which scraps I save otherwise I would drown in all the bits and pieces 😆
I haven’t tried wax paper. When my iron gets really dirty I use a wet cloth but if I’m in the middle of a project and I need a clean iron I just wiped It off on the side of my board. Not the best option but 🤷♀️

I’m on a very tight fixed income. I understand about getting the most use out of our tools and supplies.
I wondering if you are using a special tape, that is, is it extra sticky? Great craft, you are feeding my sickness of keeping small scraps!
I’ve learned to be a bit more particular about which scraps I save otherwise I would drown in all the bits and pieces 😆
you can use charm squares also
You can use all kinds of fabrics if they fit the size card you’re making.
Yeah, I love mistakes. Makes me feel better about my own.
We all make them. I’d rather show you how I deal with It instead of pretending that I’m perfect. Sometimes mistakes can lead to something exciting.
@@rsislandcrafts That's the spirit!
I guess i can order the fusible stuff on amazon
Yes, I've also rubbed glue off along the edge of my ironing board.
Yes!! I’m not the only one 🤣. The glue comes off much quicker when it’s fresh and still hot.
Need to find your fist set of cards
can you still make those note cards with that refuseable Robin
Can I still make them? Sure. I make them regularly. They’re a fun interruption from the have to’s
When you get some fusible glue on your iron just iron a bounce sheet and it will all come off
Interesting. Thanks for the tip!
Lower the feed dogs😊
Right? 🤣. I’m surprised It turned out as well as It did.
I never drop my feed dogs and do free motion quilting on my domestic. I have found my machine does better with the feed dogs up.
Every machine is different. We have to learn how our machines work best. I’m sure your experience will help others. Thank you! 🦩
You forgot to drop the feed dogs 🐶
What a cute , lovely idea - I’m going to make some. In advance 👍 thx
You got It!! They’re fun to make.
😍💖💓💗👍👍
Forgot to drop the feed dog's huh? 🤣🤣
Who me? 🤣🤣🤣
parchment paper
🦩
Didn't drop the feet dog?
Correct. It worked out okay but not recommended.
I use wax paper to removed glue from iron.
I haven’t tried wax paper. When my iron gets really dirty I use a wet cloth but if I’m in the middle of a project and I need a clean iron I just wiped It off on the side of my board. Not the best option but 🤷♀️
you forgot to lower your feed dogs
Yes ma’am. A bit frustrating but at least It still worked okay.
