I am late to the party again. This week was the dental surgery. Now recovering and looking forward to getting into projects. First I need to clean up my sewing area. I don't have to clean each day as I did when all the family was here. I do like to tidy before the next big sewing. Thanks for the great information. 🤗
He Ellen. Sound alike your dental surgery went well. So happy to hear that. I hope your recovery is speedy. Dental surgery is never pleasant but it’s necessary. Tidy things up now and when you’re feeling better your sewing area will be clean and ready to go. A nice fresh start.
Thank you sweetness for showing your quick way of creating the post cards in bulk. You're right the issue with batting getting in my mat began to bug me too. Then the light bulb came on, I decided to cut the batting to the exact size of the post card, sew on the fabrics then place it face down and use the batting as my template. No cutting through the thickness, no measuring, it's made squaring up a pleasure lol xx
Thank you for doing this video!! I will rewatch it again to get all the info. I’m thinking of making mine into small thank you notes for my customers…so maybe like 1/2 of an index card size…but I’ll need to work on that. Again, thanks!!!
You’re very welcome. Many people use index cards to make their postcards. I think using them as thank you notes is a great idea. If you’re going scrappy you can even make one full index card and cut It in half. Have fun!
Love your postcards, Robin. I don't live near the ocean, so think of it in terms of whales and fishes, and maybe starfishes. But the squid took me by surprise. Yes, you have squids. LOL - I definitely need educating . ... and that's what you do. Love your videos Robin. Please keep them coming. They are enjoyable, entertaining, and educational. Oh! The Three E's!!!! See you in next video.
Hi Robin,, I love your scrappy postcards, and the effort and loe you put into making them. I am going to use your production line technique for my scrappy quilt blocks that I am making ready for a quilt i am making :) I also really enjoying your content and look forward to your videos :) Kind regards from Saleena in Australia :)
Since I make up the code word randomly each video I tend to forget what I chose. Then the comments come in and I’m like “what? Why is everyone talking about squids? “ 🤣🤣🤣
Great Squid vid Robin with lots of information about the cards. They are so pretty. It made me go and look in ONE of my scrap bags and find some inspiration. Thank you 😊💐🐙
Thanks Lynn. Congratulations! Your name was chosen by one of my moderators to win a fabric postcard from my last live stream. Please email me your mailing address so I can get It out to you. Thanks!
Hi Robin, thanks a lot for this summary. Fabric postcards are really on my to sew list for quite a while and I hope that I can give it a try soon. Maybe with a squid on? 🤔 Unfortunately the postcard charges and also letters in Germany do not only depend on the size but also on the weight, so sending fabric postcards by mail will be quite expensive. Might use them as greetings cards then (and personally give to the recipient). Xoxo from Germany Stephanie
We have to watch the size, weight, and thickness of our cards and letters too. It’s a shame that mailing a birthday card is cost prohibitive. Hand delivery them is fun too.
🦑 is not going to replace 🦩is it? Thanks for the update/reminder about fabric postcards. Have you ever used just card stock for the back? I’m wondering if something like this would work for teacher thank you notes.
Many have used card stock. It works wonderfully but It wasn’t the feel I was going for with my cards. Granted many are just scrappy fabrics and not fancy but many people like to collect them and display them on a shelf. The comic book boards allow them to stand on their own. Plus when I make one that’s actually artistic then It will be more substantial. I always say make one and see how you feel about It. If card stock works for thank you cards then why not? My word of warning is for the way you do the outer edge or border. If you do a tight zig zag stitch then It can perforate the card stock and separate It from the quilted side. If you prefer a satin stitch edging then I suggest a straight stitch just inside the satin stitching. That way your postcard will stay together. That’s what I do with any cards that are sent to me that have separated. Have fun!
I’m just in love with this idea! Is it alright if I make a couple to send to friends/family? If not, I understand. Thanks so much for sharing all your squid info🥰
I use comic book boards for the postcard portion. I cut them down to size. I like how It makes my fabric postcards firmer so they can lean up against a book on the bookcase etc.
Clear envelopes. You can also add in your preferred size. I’ve swapped postcards with several people and each person has their own preferred size. I buy my envelopes about a 1/4” larger than my postcard size.
Hola desde el norte de Virginia en los EEUU! Robin corta la guata a unos 13 cm por 18 cm, cose las tiras y luego las recorta a unos 11,5 cm por 16,5 cm para que quepan en los sobres que compra.
I love those cards. I made one a year ago (super sewing beginner) and it turned out nice but got side tracked with other projects lol. What size clear bags do you use for those? HL does carry them and would just as soon pick some up there as I probably won't need as many as you do. Also I love the mat under your machine....little bit of everything techniques....very nice! Tfs
My friend buys her clear sleeve at hobby lobby. They’re just slightly larger than my postcards. What I’ve done in the past is fold over the excess, scotch tape It down, and then add the address label right over It. The tape holds It in place until you can add the label. The adhesive label holds It in place nicely. I think this makes the card and envelope look neater and It avoided that loose flappy bit from getting caught in the machinery at the post office. Thank you! I made my mat with my patrons but I also made a similar QAYG mat here on RUclips.
Have you seen my fabric postcard collection from friends and swaps?
So many fun and cute cards. ruclips.net/video/0HWk8acOQ_o/видео.html
Thanks for sharing I love watching you it’s like listening to a friend talking 😊👍🏻🤗🦩🦩🦩

Wow. Best “affordable” postcard tutorial!! I’ve already made mine. Now I just need to get cardstock paper and zigzag it!! Thanks! It looks so cute.😊
You’re very welcome!! It’s nice when we can use what we have on hand. Have fun! I love opening my mailbox and finding a surprise fabric postcard.
Eating squid can be quite a treat! Thanks for the info/tutorial, Robin! Always enjoyable!
We grew up eating calamari. My father loved It on his pasta and we didn’t know It was gross” and we wanted anything dad was eating of course 😉
What a cute squid! Never seen a scrappy postcard before.
Lots of good information. Love to see your scraps and how they come together.
Thank you
Lots of good information. Live seeing how your creative mind works. So much fun!
Thanks Sue.

Thank you so much Saleena. Assembly line sewing feels so much faster than one block at a time.

Just one scrap bin? Hmmm. That sounds like you have many scrappy bins 🤣
This is a wonderful idea!
Thank you
Great idea using the smaller mat💛💛💛

Love this technique it is beautiful 😍
Thank you. They’re fun to make. A great project for when I want to sew but not think too hard.
Love these! Thanks.

One day I will get enough nerve to try Squid. I’m try to broaden my tastebuds. 😀 thanks for sharing !!!
We grew up eating squid. We didn’t know any better 😜. My father loved squid on his pasta.
Love these I will have to show my granddaughter how you do them. . Oh no I don't have any squid scraps! Lol
Your granddaughter will love playing with your scraps and creating a little masterpiece. They’re fun and quick. Perfect for all ages 😉
Enjoyed and good information SQUID
Thank you 🦩
Hello Rpnin isn't squid scungil in Italian. Fried scungil is yummy just like your Post cards. Love watching you do this.
We love fried calamari and fried clams.

I shared this so that you could make your own to share too. Be careful. Once you start making fabric postcards you won’t be able to stop. 🙃
What size are the white squares? I think I missed what you are sewing them to, white squares are made of?
I sewed my scraps to batting. I cut my scrap batting into 5.5” by 7.5”. One inch larger than my finished postcard.
Where do you get your postcards? Before decorating!?
I use comic book boards for the postcard portion. I cut them down to size. I like how It makes my fabric postcards firmer so they can lean up against a book on the bookcase etc.
@@rsislandcrafts ok! I guess I didn’t quite understand from the video! I’m a bit slow this evening! Ha!!
Totally understandable. I know the feeling.
Would you share a link to the clear envelopes. Thank you.
I buy them on Amazon from various shops. Each time I go back for more I have to find a new shop that carries them. Sorry.
