The one i got was super sharp from the factory. One of the sharpest knives from new ive ever had. I also like the slightly longer blade. Much easier for batining with. The sheath is also very well made. And the sleipner is a definite upgrade from the k720. An all round great woodlore/ traditional/English style bushcraft knife.

Great review and very much to the point, no nonsense.
Just thought I should mention that Casstrom is a Swedish company, but they don’t make their knives there.
Officially they say they are made in Europe, but people on bushcraft forums have information that Joker makes them in Spain.

Wow...you sent me on a digging and reading expedition, and you are right! They very carefully say European manufactured everywhere, even though they design from the Lapland region of Sweden. And it would make sense that Joker manufactures them, because Joker is killing it and they seem to skirt their models very closely around but not in direct collision with some of the design specs of the Casstrom models. Thanks for stropping in to leave a note!

Joker make some great knives. A very underrated manufacturer imo. All the caastrom knives are made in Spain but the design and the finishing are all done in Sweden. And I guess it beats fallkniven who promote themselves as a Swedish company but have their knives made in Japan. At least caastrom have kept it in Europe, and I think the ppl who work at joker are really skilled at what they do. This lars falt knife is as good or better than most £200+ bushcraft knives. Mine came rasor sharp as well, and perfectly finished.

You can buy the the blanks for $68 , bps sheath $16 , scales $20 . I plan on doing this with their Casstrom #10 forester .
You can also buy their sheaths for $35 but there are better low cost options ....That said the #10s sheath is pretty cool looking so I might just get it instead. You still end up saving money , knife buying has shot up big time.

That is excellent to know, and thank you for stropping by to share! With costs rising so much, I do think we are in a period where people are going to do and make what they can on their own just to save $ (on every front - not just tools they use like knives). Peace and goodwill to start the year 👊✌

Great review, thank you. But I think the joker ember is better in its half the cost. Bark River? Suck.

Hey thanks. The Joker Ember (my review is at ruclips.net/video/3SkU2jriHa8/видео.html) is an extremely compelling alternative, though the increased length in this blade also carries some advantages too. As for Bark River, I would not say suck at all. Though I am finding the 3V steel on my Bravo 1 a bit softer HRC than I expected, the fit and finish, the convex grind, and the ease of sharpening back up definitely are not "sucky". Thanks for stroppin by to watch and comment!

I personally despise danglers, but having freedom of choice is great.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig  Год назад

Just walking around I agree a dangler is more floppy and moppy. However, as I navigate my elder years I find myself sitting in camp more than walking around and doing stuff and that's when a dangler shines. And like you mention, the freedom to do both is always appreciated to hit everyone's sweet spot. Thanks for stropping by!

The Enzo Trapper might be a viable alternative. There's lots of different versions, different grinds, handle materials, blade steels and a couple of different blade lengths. You get a good dangler sheath with it too. I got mine 7/8 years ago, been a great knife I got at a good price but I don't know if you can still get them for less than a Kastrom. Yes, do like the Jokers and you get quality for a good price.

Yes, that looks like it would be a very good alternative. Plus, I don't yet have any Finnish blades, so maybe in the future...Thanks for stropping by to check it out and comment! 👊

I have both and although I do really like the trapper if I had to choose I pick the caastrom. That extra blade is better for batoning and I prefer the shape of the caastrom handle.

Thank you for the great review. Good to see a review of the knife when it has been used for a while. Also loved to see how it compares next to Garberg as I have the that one.

Thanks Ristu! The Garberg is a timeless classic that I will continue to beat on, but this one just feels special, tough, and beautiful all in one. Спасибо for stopping by to watch and comment!

NICE VIDEO. I HAVE GOT ALL OF THE THREE OF THEM, THE FULL TANG, WITH BIRCH HANDLE, EXCEPT OF THE SMALL HUNTING ONE. EXCELLENT VALUE OF MONEY IF YOU COMPARE IT WITH OTHER KNIFE COMPANIES. AS IT CONCERNS, THE JOKER KNIVES, THEY ARE FANTASTIC AND VERY SHARP. I HAVE GOT A LOT OF JOKER KNIVES, BRILLIANT STUFF. ALSO, CHECK THE PUMA IP CHOPPER AND THE CUDEMAN FROM SPAIN.

Thanks! Casstrom is quality stuff for certain, and fairly enough priced - I do think Spain is breathing down their necks with Joker. Checked out the PUMAs - an interesting lot - though it is unclear exactly where they are manufactured. Thanks for stropping by to share!

10:35 for the one person who made it that far in the video and followed the instructions, @basinandrangemagazine on IG was the winner of the Mini Sheepdog, so it is on it's way to a new home. Look for other knife giveaway instructions in random spots in future videos.
