Mostly knife reviews, but some 4WD and gear too, plus the occasional DIY hacks to make your life more full of joy.
SurviveKnives! EDC-4; Thoughts in Memoriam (+ALTERNATIVES)
To do a review of an extinct knife...or not to do a review of an extinct knife after the company essentially swindles over 3,000 buyers. All of this footage except the conversation at the end was completed in May, 2024 before SurviveKnives! closed their shop under uber-shady circumstances. Thanks to @HeavySetTactical409 for his honest and earnest effort to try to assist Survival on a path that Guy just couldn't sustain. R.I.P.

Willing to sell your fractus?
@@nickkeogh1812 I probably am willing. Follow and DM me on IG @MitchellBollig.
The action is serious. If Batman carried a pocket knife this would be it. Shoutout to DOOM!👊🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔪💪
Absolutely! ✌️👊
Mine is without the chili and I love it!
I can only assume autokorrekt didn't like your use of the word "choil" and change it to "chili" gratuitously ;-). I'm picking up what you're putting down, and I think that is awesome indeed! Thanks for stropping by to check it out! 👊✌️
I can get one at Walmart for $12.95.😅
Dang! I didn't know Wally World sold knives made out of Elmax and micarta 😉. Thanks for stropping by to exercise your 1st amendment rights.🤙
@@MitchBolliglol
That’s a shame, it looks like a great design and a good sheath.
Yeah, it really was a shame, 'cause this is one top-notch quality blade. Thanks for stropping in! 👊✌️
If you ever wanna sell it let me know lol
@gOOnz901 In all honesty, I probably will want to sell it in the next several months (and I never sell for profit - even hard to get/find knives). Follow me over on InstaGram @mitchellbollig and DM me. Thanks for stropping by! 👊✌️
@@MitchBollig I will ,I’ll give you every bit of what it’s worth too and i appreciate you. Thanks big time ! I’ll keep it for the rest of my days man.
Takes months to even get a set
Sometimes, the best things in life are worth waiting for - these were definitely worth it. Thanks for stropping by! 👊🤙
I would like it just that much more if it had a flat spot under the clip
Ooh...I agree that would be awesomeness as far as function, but being ambidextrous on the pocket clip, they would have had to put it on both sides, which would have messed with the texturing esthetics. An intriguing trade off for sure. Thanks for stropping by! 🤙👊
GOT A NEW ONE RECENTLY AND IT LOCKS UP NICE A TIGHT.
That's awesome to hear! I have been seeing folks get these fixed ones and they have indicated Microtech flattened that little nub on the tang (which I hadn't thought of) to get a further and better cover of the RAM lok. Thanks for stropping by! 👊✌️
@@MitchBollig I’m thinking it may be a QC thing…but it is an awesome knife without the problems!! The handles make it pop!
@@orphy6869 👍 agreed...
Awesome!! 👍👍
@KnivesFAST Really solid design and execution. I look forward to doing a proper carry and review in the future! ✌️
@@MitchBollig awesome
Thanks for the review! Just ordered a full Ti one!
Ooh I think you're gonna like that one - hand filling heft. Thanks for stropping by. ✌️👊
Excellent blades, i have a lot of fixed blade knives, some expensive but allways go for a Joker ❤❤
Good choice - I think it's tough to go wrong with a Joker. Thanks for stroppin' by!👊✌️
Your build looks great! I'm doing a similar one now with t he Flytanium Crossfade scales, but in the stonewash finish and with brass accents. Two questions for you: 1. Did your Flytanium screw set come with a white (uncoated) pivot screw and also a backing/housing that the pivot screw screws into, and if not where did you get those parts? 2. Is there a reason you decided not to install a backspacer? I chose to get one for my build, thinking it would add stability and a bit of color to the knife overall, but I was on the fence about it. Thanks.
Thanks! 1) My Flytanium screw set was just the body screws - no pivot HW...mine were just the factory originals. 2) As for a backspacer, I didn't even think about it - I was just focused on migrating the frame/scales to Ti. In retrospect, I really like the idea - I think you made a good choice. And lastly, I would have loved a stonewashed set, but Flytanium didn't have them stonewashed when I purchased (sometimes the early bird gets the worser worm;-). Thanks for stropping by!🤜🤛✌️
Roll a 20 get a critical hit on Orcs
I will try to remember to roll 'em when I do the full review (or even an initial overview). Thx! 🤙👊
@@MitchBollig Cool 😎 GREAT Knife 🔪
That’s a sharping choil not for a fire steel although I guess u could use it for a steel, it may damage your blade.
Interesting..thank you. I'll try it out as a firesteel scraper and include it in the full review - maybe we'll get a 2-for-1 use. 👊✌️
That's a looker 😎🤜🤛
Brother DOOM did a good job designing this bruiser. Thanks for stroppin in the comments Billy.👊🤙
@@MitchBollig absolutely 💯
Awww yeah! 🤘
Really liking it so far brother DOOM - knice work!
@@MitchBollig thanks Mitch ✌️
I like the looks of the tanto the best. The inly one I've ever used is this modified insingo. Thanks for sharing bro
Yeah, there's not really a loser here. They've got all purposes covered pretty well. Thanks for stopping in Billy. 👊
💯💯💯
Thanks for stroppin by to check it out. 👊
Drop
Gotta admit I went to RGT and looked at those clips after Steve’s video too. Definitely looks cool bro🤘🤘. Happy Independence Day
I actually paused his video to see if they were still available 😉. Thanks for stopping by as always - happy Independence Dave to you too ;-)!
Got that asmr thing going on
This may be my last 😎 - the amount of work was proportional to the boringness of it 🤣. Thanks for suffering it 👊
@@MitchBollig lol. Never tried. I don't have any mics for that anyway
My most favorite Cold Steel knife. I got the OD green and Black in S35VN and 3 lites.
The more I spend time with the AD15, the more I like them (dare I say maybe more than the AD10). Thanks for checking it out. 👊✌️
Have one of these in Magnacut on the way. Looking forward to it. Great review!
Thanks Nick! It is a great knife - especially much more now that @SatuDave installled thumb studs. I've been watching your knives go through Billy and Courtney's hardness testing - you considering the same with the Hinderer Magnacut? 👊✌️
@@MitchBollig he already tested it! 62 was the poke on it.
@@nicholasedwardbehindtheedg2343 Solid!
@@MitchBollig definitely better than I expected. Part of the reason I traded for this one!
I believe the finish is called riverwash
Oh super thanks! I was scouring MKT's site looking for it last night. I'll follow this bread crumb. 🤜🤛
Glad you're enjoying it bro
Absolutely love it...thanks for it! - and as always, you get first rights of refusal (for no added - and usually less cost) if I'm ever gonna part with it. 🤙
@@MitchBollig right on. Thanks.
Congrats bro. So cool to see ya getting a big Medford in your lineup 🤘🤘. Especially from brother nunface. Hope you enjoy it and it serves you well 🤘🤘😎
Thanks Dave. It's almost a better fit in hand than the Tyr (but for the diamond texturing Rodney left behind with his spiral frag pattern - that still is my favorite bruiser), but this thing is top notch, and close behind. 🤘👊
I had Dave's On Belay for a while on loan. Loved it!
Yeah, it's nearly the perfect size bruiser for a med-large hand. Appreciate you stoppin in EE. Always 🙏to you and Mrs. Edge. ✌️
On Belay & 187 in my top 3 Medfords, the TFF-1 rounds out the group👍
TFF is absolutely awesome...after watching SatuDave, I thought about the -H Fat Daddy, but the height of the -1 might make up for the thinner frame. Wait a minute...slow down Mitch and enjoy the On Belay for awhile 😉. 👊✌️
@@MitchBollig we're always chasing that high😁
Deep carry pocket clip
Yes! Thanks for the reminder and commenting! 🤙👊
@@MitchBollig no prob!
It seems like the story here is like with an iPhone, you have to suffer)) I have an iPhone, and I like it, I bought a large sebenza tanto, I really like it, but since I’m a knifemaker, my fingers are strained and there are always some kind of cuts, or banal fatigue, in the end I stopped carrying this knife, and I use SOG XR LTE, I can just open it without pain.
Yeah, your sentiment is nearly universal - I have literally never talked with a knife guy or girl who gives CRK studs (on the Sebenza and Inkosi - I haven't handled an Umnumzaan) glowing remarks. The easier path for using said knife tools is find the one that works more seamlessly for your hands...like you did. Thanks for stropping by! ✌️👊
I like my AD20s much better with g 10 scales....but I actually use my knives. I had g.o.a.t. scales on myAD 10....It turned it into a fancy paper wieght!
Hey that makes 2 of us! (I actually use my knives😉). There's no arguing that G10 is a standard insofar as grip/weight/strength balance. On a rather beefy/bulky bruiser like this one, the titanium frame really enhances those qualities. I've found the couple ounces of weight that OG metal scales add in the pocket carry can also be reassuring when you use these tools wearing gloves. Thanks for stropping in to check it out! ✌️👊
I just bought the plus modified wharncliffe (or reverse tanto) blade in Chinese steel, bought at Wally World for $27.99. I agree with the reviewer, that the weird stiff spring is annoying. Don’t know if use will fix that. Deployment is hard on the finger and the hard multi stage close is unpleasant. I would have gladly paid $7 more for AUS 10 or Sandvik 14c28N steel. The grip was a different pattern modified plastic or nylon different than in the video, that was surprisingly comfortable in my large (XL glove) hand, not sharp edges Or slippery. I like the feel-even for a budget knife, and the blade style-a pretty stout back with a sabre grind in a satin finish.
It's been awhile since I did this side-by-side compare - I like your updated assessment (and thanks for updating the current price based on your Wally World acquisition!). Thanks for stropping in to check it out! 🤜🤛
Whats the name of the texture ? I see in the internet but is not clear what texture name is
It is the Drift pattern texture from Original Goat✌️👊
Wise Men Company did not offer a Signet ring for my Manix 2 XL so I made my own.
Very awesome! I've seen various home-cooked "wave" modifications/additions, but not an outright signet ring - you must be a machinist or other very skilled craftsman. Either way, good work! And thanks for stroppin by to check it out! 👊
Hope they release an XL version of these.
That would be incredible, like literally a usable pocket kitchen knife that works well for other EDC use. Tha ks for stroppin by. 🤙👊
I ordered one last night for $275 out the door shipped overnight with a code at white mountain. People didn’t realize they had two different specs sitting on page 5 at the very end hidden. I posted them up in the group to let everybody know, but I made sure I got mine ordered first lol
Oh very knice! Thanks for posting here too, and thanks for stropping by to check it out - this is an Olympic-level production knife for that price. Having done a full sharpening since I made the video, I'll add that I love Vanax steel as much as Magnaslut in the category of sharpenability. 👊✌️
You had me at cancer.
You know, someone has to be out there reconciling the Prop65 cancer list with actual things we use that would make that list 😀🤣. Glad I could help ✌️👊
That brisket looked heavenly
Honestly...it was a good one, and this Talwar eased through it. Thanks for stropping by to check it out! 👊✌️
Knife porn 😮
It's a knife that deserves such coverage 😉. Thanks for checking it out..👊
Garbage
Wait...is my joke garbage, or the fact that this particular model doesn't have tip-up carry 😉? Either way, thanks for stropping in to exercise your 1st amendment rights! 🤙👊
@@MitchBollig the knife is garbage
Great video, and great mods on your Project X. I have a Project X, but thought that because of the strong detent, having thumb studs would not work well. It looks like I was wrong. Thanks -
I would agree that the detent is tuned for the sole-flipping action, but in the case of @SatuDave thumb stud mod, they work great too! Thanks for stropping by to check it out! ✌️ 👊
How does cruware compare to m4 ? only got 1 knife in m4 and agree it feels more comfortable compared to para 3 just got one in s30v because all I could find in my country
M4 and Cru-wear are from a similar boat - both semi-stainless particle metallurgy tool steels. I've personally found them similar on all fronts except stainlessness - M4 develops a deeper natural patina (corrosion) on my blades - so I have to oil them. These are all great every day use steels - including S30v - just determine what is the most important quality for each of your blades, and know that steel choices provide trade offs to meet these objectives. Enjoy, and thanks for stropping by! 🤙✌️
@@MitchBollig cheers I’ve got a coated super freak m4, s30 spiderco no cruware yet. I quite like 1090 steel in my fixed blades as can sharpen it razor sharp so quickly. Thanks
I get the appeal of a contoured scale, but do it to the other side too bro. It looks out of place with different textures and finish
I totally understand you here - at first I asked Dave to true it up to the original framing - keep it flat and chamfer the edges...so it would essentially mimic a smooth Ti show side from Hinderer. But the customization bug hit me - and I'm glad it did. I turned a knife ripe for resale into one ripe for unique carry. And I gotta tell ya, Dave's orange peel texture is unmatched - kind of satin sheets but with grip. I liked giving the artist freedom here. I appreciate you stropping by! ✌️ 👊
How did you feel about Demko's magnacut?
My personal experience was excellent. This did not chip or roll after batoning through wood (that oft happens with softer heat treats - see my BRK Bravo 1 review). Though magnacut seems to get some mixed results out in the wild, my first 3 experiences with it are great (Creely Blades Mako, this Demko, Hogue Deka). Thanks for stropping in to ask!✌️ 👊
Ps.... I added thumb scallops to my HC as well .. TOTALLY changed the feel of the hilt area for the better!! Soooo much more comfortable for pinch grips.
Oooohhh my. Belt sander/grinder, hand sanded with blocks? I agree that is THE one and awesome change necessary to elevate this to greatest in class! Look forward to hearing. 🤙✌️
@@MitchBollig I did my scallops with a Dremel armed with a small sanding wheel. Outlined my edges and worked slowly.
Bushcrafter HC was my first LT and still my favorite and most used. To anyone reading this, dont let 1075 sway you... Peter's does a GREAT heat treatment with the 1075. The HC has been my go to edc blade for several years now. The A2 models are great too... But the thin 3/32 hc in convex is fantastic!
This is a truly great one. And even though the blade stock is quite thin (I think I recall demonstrating it's around Benchmade Bugout), no fear of this one batoning through small wood - it was a champ. Yeah, I'm liking your thought process of convexing this edge. This is a knife I'm going to giveaway at 2K subscribers to a channel in Germany, but I will be giving several others, so be on the lookout CNY - thanks! ✌️ 👊
