For anyone like me just seeing this video now, awhile back Sony patched the VRR/local dimming conflict out with a firmware update. So VRR and local dimming work at the same time now and it looks incredible.
Just thought i'd drop a message and say hi after you mentioned on the livestream that you were a fan, which is very nice to hear : ) I'm now off to check out your other content! and apply a few more thumbs up 👍🙂
I'm a soft core gamer! But for me am a movie lover so the 75" x95k is for me!! That picture is gorgeous 😍 looks the closest to oled it's ever been! Thanks again Brian for the video! Also Robert and Wendy from value electronics for letting you just go all out for the reviews!!!
i spent lot of my free time playing games on collogue :) so now I am immune /no more time wasting/ ;) For movies X95K is what I was waiting for /LCD with almost perfect black/ , sure will wait for more testing . Anyway thank you for this . I will not start playing games on this TV :) thanks for your work
The combination of the glossy screen and more zones, and higher contrast is making this TV look CLEAN. I was even considering getting this in a bigger size over the A95K, but it looks like I’ll be waiting another year. Hopefully next year we get VRR with local dimming enabled so I can consider those TVs against the 77 inch QD-OLEDs.
@@twindragon010 The Sony.Playstation departmentand Sony TV department are clearly not on the same page lol. Xbox and LG have a much better relationship even being different brands
(My First message, i deleted because of a mistake😅) ---‐------- For me the same. Looks like Sony don't care about gamers . An Expensive TV made for the PS5, but you can't use it full in 2022 OMG Thats from same Company made the PS5 and give you for free, when you buy this TV (but just until 10 May lol) .
@@justsaying993 In the end are both Sony. And the Sony TV promoted the X95K is "perfect for Playstation 5". That is scam for me. For me are all LGs OLEDs to dark. I think Samsungs QD S935B do the best performance. On Playstation I just miss Grand Turismo, I have PC and Xbox.
@@twindragon010 Companies generally don’t advertise what they are not good at, and all companies follow deception of some kind, including Sony and Samsung. It’s just best to be an informed customer, and follow what companies are doing, instead of what they are saying. I trust Samsung to give me a bright, punchy image. And I trust Sony to give me a sharp, natural image. I also trust Sony to give me better local dimming when I’m NOT using VRR, and I trust Samsung to at least give me some local dimming when I AM using VRR.
I'm considering getting this set or the Z9k in 75. Might have some toy money coming in soon. I'll probably be working when this goes live, thanks Brian.
Gaming is a very important factor when considering our next TV, so it looks like we’ll be getting a C2 or G2. Was really hoping the X95K had good gaming chops, because I would prefer a mini LED (brightness, burn-in, etc) and excited to experience Sony’s excellent processing. Bummed, but thankful for your video to help me decide on the best TV for our wants/needs. Would like a G2, but will probably go C2 because we do not plan on wall mounting, and the extra $ for the set (and more $ for a stand) makes it a tough pill to swallow. Thank you again for your content!
First time I saw the A80J my eyes were in awe! Will be getting an OLED by Xmas time, either the A80J, new Samsung QD OLED 95B which I haven’t gotten to see or the new Sony QD OLED. The Bravia chip is on another level when comparing and movies/shows are an additional plus!
@Metalane, Yes, Sony’s Bravia processor gives it an amazing picture. My wife didn’t care for quality in TV’s, then she saw the Sony A80J and she was like Wow, I told her yeah big difference in picture quality! Almost got the LG C1 last year, but went with the Samsung Q70 for gaming. We play Destiny 2 and I would of went OLED direction for quality but for that specific game everyone was saying when in caves or raids in pitch black it was very difficult to see even messing with brightness setting in game and tv for visibility was a mess, then when out of the area, brightness was oversaturated and would have to redo settings. Not going to happen with all that action going on! Did the HDR setting from HDTV Test for game and Samsung Q70 he recommended and wow, the game in HDR is perfect!
@@Gutztv07 Oh yeah, I’ve never even experienced proper HDR or OLED in person, so I can’t wait. I still think the SDR performance on my (2016) X850D is spectacular, but I guess that’s because I don’t know any better haha.
Does local dimming work with 4K120hz content with VRR disabled? Like Ratchet and clank 40fps fidelity mode. I'm guessing you can play and still take advantage of 4K120hz with local dimming just not unlocked frame rate bummer!
Man, one can undoubtedly feel the sound of disappointment resonate from the depths of your soul. I'm not sure what to make of all that now, i was hoping that this would be the one. Damn it! if it wasn't for the OLED's burn in and life limit.. Thank you very much for your integrity.
Someone finally said it!!!!! I think i secretly ruffled a couple tv reviewers feathers when i told them they shouldn't bring movie settings into gaming. They were trying to make the image as u would a movie to "get the creators true intent" which leaves the game image dark n dull. U dont want the image to super inaccurate but its definitely not supposed to be running movie settings on a video game
I just wanted to ask can the Xbox say it is using vrr, or not, so the tv, can adjust vrr mode or local dimming. Or let’s say you are watching a movie using the 4K blue ray player, will the tv, then enable local dimming automatically, since you are watching a movie, or is that not possible, meaning it’s better to have a separate blue ray player, to play blue-rays, and will having an Xbox plugged in to a different port, disable local dimming, on a blueray player, as well, or will the tv, see that I am playing a movie now, and enable local dimming.
Whisper status is robert zohn going to be getting some of the z9k in store this year? would love to see one gaming on 8k since new gpu going to be awsome this year.
Hey Brian. Do you think mini led is a stop gap till we get to micro? I don’t think led TVs will eliminate blooming 100 percent. As you say, it’s an inherent flaw. Will led eventually give way to qd oled, as the technology keeps getting cheaper?
It's been a while since you posted this but I remembered how bad my 825 series first gen mini led TCL looked any time I turned local dimming to medium or lower. It had bright corners, cloudy areas, and dirty screen somewhat. When I turned it back to high all the defects disappeared and no blooming or anything as long as you weren't way off angle. One day probably a year in they pushed through a major update. After that medium local dimming was clean, no dse or cloudy bright corners, just slightly brighter black screen and black crush was gone as well. They very well might be able to fix up some of the issues just with firmware on the X95k but you'd be taking a gamble, but TCL certainly pulled it off for my mini led set. I don't game with it but it does have a game mode that disables local dimming, BUT you can manually turn it on again. I don't think it supports VRR either but I believe it wa6a promised feature when they first released it.
Hey I need your help, I was going to buy the x95k but now I’m thinking get the a90j - after 85 inch size. Working from home in a bright room I watch tv during day but most of my watching is movies and gaming on ps5. I’ve owned the lg c1 but returned it as it was too dull and now have a Samsung terrace. I love the contrast and crystal clearness on a oled but punch in qled. Is the a90j bright enough you think now to cover casual day viewing in bright room. I’m over Samsung -many quality of life and bug issues with e-arc so going back to my Sony roots one way or another - much appreciated george
Aren’t we back to “use case”? There are so many real good TV’s this year that this has to be taken into consideration. Your an expert gamer and spend a good deal of time playing them. For a movie and sports guy this looks like a great choice.
@Whisper Status 74 -----> What do you recommend between the LG G2, the S95B, the A90J or the X95K? Or are there other models I need to check? I'm a gamer and a cinephile, both die hard. Thank you in advance! Greets from Belgium
Hi L! Hope all is well in Belgium my friend. For me the Samsung is the one that does it all if you are going same size. If you are going larger I'd go G2.

Question, if you plan on pc gaming and using GSYNC - assuming the X95k works with GSYNC, would that allow the backlight master drive to work? Or would it be disabled like it is with VRR? I know LG OLEDS are perfect for Gsync, curious if the X95k can do Gsync and bypass the limitations you mention in this video. Fingers crossed! Sucks about PS5 VRR though but I PC game more than play PlayStation.
i think i heard some time ago that this has something to do with the Local Dimming algorithm on these tv´s which will not work correctly with variable framerates above 60fps when VRR is turned on, the same goes for Oled tv´s which have some near black flickering when VRR is enabled...i hope this stuff can get fixed in the future
@Whisper Status 74 what tv would you recommend at this point? Want to get 83-85 for mostly gaming and streaming in room that's fairly bright during the day. Coming from a 65 KS9000 at about 10ft seating distance.
Hi Leon for gaming LG is the one at 83" and is ok for a bright room but Samsung at 85" would be best. Last years QN90A Or this years QN90B for gaming and excellent In a bright room.
That's why OLED is the go to TV Technology for me. Local dimming is almost always negated in some way when in game mode on LED tvs. QD OLED in bigger sizes has me extremely excited.
Thanks for the video, I appreciate your knowledge of the subject. I'm not an expert so I would be grateful if you could answer a question for me. You said that VRR would disable local dimming when using a console. However if I was using this TV with a PC which has an Nvidia graphics card, would that require VRR? Or could VRR be deactivated and the PC use Vsync/Gsync to still get high frame rates with advanced local dimming when the TV is in regular enhanced format? I apologise for my ignorance but I hope you can help, thanks
No ignorance at all Aaron. Not sure vrr would work on the Sony from NVIDIA as the Sony doesn't support Gsync. So yes you'd be fine on the Sony with 4k@60fps and 120FPS however vrr wouldn't work.
Man that’s crazy usually only the value brands disable local dimming with vrr I was really looking forward to this tv . Guess I will stick with my qn90a for now at least local dimming works with vrr . Thanks you Brian for being so honest I can guarantee the reviewers are going to not say anything about vrr and local dimming not working .
@@korndog81 it doesn’t work as good as in movie mode of course but it does indeed work in game mode with vrr , gsync or freesync premium and it’s noticeable and provides much better performance then if it was disabled completely unlike the sony

Man I wish I didn’t care about gaming so much because that picture is just gorgeous. Now for some gamers they will not care about VRR. I mean honestly we’ve all been playing games without VRR for years and still enjoyed our gaming. The problem for me it’s not what I’ve been doing for the past few years that I should focus on but rather the future. I just wouldn’t want to be without VRR which is a featured tech that will enhance the gaming experience. People will say, “ how can you choose VRR over picture quality” and my question would be as someone who loves gaming how could you not? Why does it have to be an either/or deal? We need both picture quality with VRR to maximize the gaming hobby as we move forward. Sony please figure this out! Disabling local dimming with VRR is downright criminal when you see just how stunning that picture can be. …and this is their first crack at Miniled. My goodness can only imagine what they do in the next few years with Miniled if they choose to continue to play with it. By the way no disrespect to gamers who can live without VRR. I just know how I am as a person, even someone like myself who struggles to make time to game, I just feel that I would be missing out. Oh yeah by the way just a great video!
I agree with you 100%. Picture is stunning and I could totally live without VRR but then there would always be a thought in the back of my head while gaming, that VRR could be On and gaming would be smoother and I can't turn it on because I loose amazing picture quality that this TV is all about. As I said before, at this price point we shouldn't have to make such decisions.
@@lesenipingvin “As I said before, at this price point we shouldn’t have to make such decisions.” BINGO. Let’s hope Sony invests more time trying to resolve this. By the way I think someone in another stream mentioned that Vizio’s P series Quantum X LED set has VRR with local dimming. If this is true I just don’t see why if Vizio can figure it out then why can’t Sony? Sony please understand that there is a good percentage of TV consumers that do more than simply watch content but they also PLAY content on their panels.
Thank you and I completely understand! The vrr and LFC for gaming is changing all the time and I'd hate to be without and had to be honest with everyone. Thank you for watching
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY You got it man! Your videos are great. You have that flavor and technical vibe for the average Joe consumer like myself. Definitely sucks, but having left VRR disabled on my LG CX and Series X, it doesn't worry me. With VRR enabled, I found I needed fps above 80 to look smoother than 60 with VSYNC (I'm very sensitive to stutter). Ideally we'd have VRR and LD, but it always seems to be coming 'next year' with Sony, so I wasn't surprised with this news.
Is there a single 4k mini led tv out there that can do full array dimming with 4k/120 and VRR? Aren’t other manufacturers suffering backlight control issues with VRR, like latency with the dimming because of processing limitations. I thought I had read that somewhere.
About to grab the X95K 65”. Sit 8 feet away. Should I go 75” instead? Not worried about cost, worried about Dse screen uniformity etc. light control in my room is no problem. Whats your advice? Thanks as always.
19:59 you can see it's pretty bad look at the rocks on the ground, everything is lifted and a haze all over. Which cleans up when local dimming even on low is turned on. Interestingly though you can see in the black rocks on the ground just in front of her that as soon as it gets to "medium" local dimming and higher it actually starts to black crush a bit. But at the hud on the left you can also see the blooming is minimized from the whole screen down to a tiny amount. Too bad this TV is mired by the VRR with no local dimming. I can technically live without it as a PC gamer I can use Vsync (yes I know increased lag) in single player games or I can aim for very high fps and frame cap it at 120 and tearing will be minimal in most games, at least better optimized ones. There is borderless window gaming which can cause some windows-Vsync to happen. But the reality is $2800 with Master backlight drive and all that and yet it STILL cannot do proper VRR, just feels wrong and I know the huge feeling of regret that would set in when come CES 2023 we learn they have new SoC and local dimming might actually work in VRR and there you sit with your $2800 TV (65") and missing it.. It's the 900H all over sort of feeling again. For me it's S95B or if I don't like it QN90/95B. Had VRR worked with local dimming on X95K it would have potentially been my choice.
Man these choices. Here I am looking to return my S95B. Don't get me wrong its gorgeous in HDR, fantastic. I am sure gaming too. But I use my TV as a PC monitor and I cannot stand the slow dimming taking place on websites/forums and here on YT in comment section etc. After a while 50% of the light is gone and then you move the page and BOOM full brightness again. As I mentioned I can live without VRR, the X95K makes up for that short-coming in all other areas. I can do a 75" instead. I feel motion is much better on Sony. It's only lacking the proper VRR. It's sad, but I cannot wait another year for something like that. Might just wait and see what QN95B brings but that means it's 65" again because of price. Ugh.. OLED is just not a go for me, even QDO.
Great question! I actually don't. You can game on them however LG is just far better in this regard. 4 hdmi2.1 ports , vrr , gsync, freesync as well as the game optimizer.

When I purchased the 75in sony Z9J in late 2021 I notice this clouding or DSE issue when local dimming is turned off. It's the same when VRR is enabled and on sony's tv navigation home screen or tv apps. But mine wasn't as bad as yours. I called Sony and they told me that this is normal and within quality range. I absolutely disagreed because for a $6600 plus tv quality control shouldn't let that issue passed. It shouldn't exist for a premium master series. Relieved to know that issue is finally addressed for higher end tvs. I agree with everything you mentioned.

Hey Brian. Great vid. Question for ya. I’m a pretty serious pc gamer and looking at new tv and monitor. I’m worried as most tech in 2022 is OLED or QD-OLED. The issue is still burn in, plain and simple. Companies like alienware are providing a warranty which is nice but TVs are not. Hmm, well I may hold off for another year, plus some number of months, until 2023 TV’s release, for I want to see if Sony can figure out vrr, with local dimming within the next year, for they may not be able to, due to lack in technology, but we will see… I just want to add, that I have bought a 75 inch version of the x95k, today on 05-14-22, that will be delivered Memorial Day weekend… I am not sure if I will use the vrr, though, it will be possible. Which is exciting. Now I am coming from a curved 55 inch Samsung ks8500, that I have had since 2016… so I will excited to see a fald, tv, with support for 4K 120hz gaming, if I want to try vrr, or not. Which I will have to compare the two ways, trying it first without vrr, but having local dimming, and then trying vrr, without local dimming. To see which way I like it better. I should also note, this will be my first big Sony led, since I have had a decent sized Samsung since 2016, at 55 inches, or I think I had a smaller Samsung at 40 inches, before I got my 55 inch Samsung, but I have not experienced an fald beyond being in stores on occasion. Especially since I haven’t been out and about while the pandemic has been going on. So I am really curious to see how well a Sony mini led, with local dimming at 75 inches will work for the time being. For I will probably buy an 85+ larger if Sony can figure out vrr, with local dimming enabled. Okay, it looks like I may be buying a big (>\= 85 inche x95k here next year. But it is a year older panel. Or would you still recommend me to hold on until next year for a qd-oled at 83''?? thanks!
Personally I wouldn't consider the Z9J anymore knowing the Backlight Master Drive is back in these panels. I have considered the Z9J as well, especially at this price, but I feel the buyers remorse is eventually gonna catch up.
Wait for the Z9K in the 85th size will be 9999 dollars Size 85 has even more local zones .In the 75th size 6999, and buy it. Take size 85 for a wow effect, at 3 meters is perfect.
Maybe better then Samsung s95b. Same panel, different processor. Don't hype to much because differences can be slightly better for sony but not something big.
@@tomekkwadromek765 Agreed!" It's going to look similar to thisc(X95K). Thank you my friend and welcome to the community and family. My advice with long game sessions with static Huds is to simply run a 5min colorful full screen demo after each session before powering down. It's worked for me for years
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thank you and your welcome! Last question when you say "5 min colorful full screen demo" is this after say a 2 or 3 hours or even longer sessions? Is there a time limit when one needs to use that demo? Thx so much for the replies and intel.
Great question! The length of time isn't always the challenge ( 2 to 3 hours isn't very long) it's playing the same game day after without switching up content . The Sam's static images day after day where those same pixels don't change is the real issue. If you watch other content or simply play different games then your good. The 5min demo simply simulates that.
I think I’m going to chose this one, I was thinking for the a80k but I’m don’t wanna buy something what it can burn panel 🥺 for example some games have static info in the hud and oled has more vulnerability to burn it

Thank you for doing this. Since this Is a back-lit panel, could you in your show talk about the technology and design difference between it and Samsung QLED?
They are essentially the same especially this year as they are both mini led however Sasmung has excellent gaming features to balance the loss of local dimming
Beautiful image quality, but the gaming issues are still there, take too much work to navigate to change things when you're in the middle of gaming action, and etc kill it for me, even with the A95K. I love the image, but not more than the S95B lol
thanks for the video from a gamer perspective, this is a big flaw that favors OLED even more for gaming purposes. I am afraid the upcoming z9k will also suffer from this which is just not acceptable for us gamers. It's a damn shame, because I suspect this will be one of the best looking TVs of the year, but I'm only upgrading for the new gaming features and this feels like the wrong choice.
Anyone have issues with Amazon prime video with some shows not playing in 4k , went to watch reacher says uhd but plays hd , others work fine tried on ps5 and TV app on x90j same issue
Would Robert be able to inquire with Sony to see if they will address the lack of local dimming in VRR mode via a firmware update? Thanks and enjoying your content.
Hello Paul, both Robert and I are trying to put together a list of things that we feel will help Sony and hopefully Robert will be able to deliver that to the engineers.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY I appreciate your response and the fact that you're relaying customer concerns to Sony for us consumers. I play a lot of COD on XSX and some PS5 and this bothers me. I am taking delivery of my 75 inch X95K this Wednesday and hope that the gaming is bearable. I'm gaming on a 65inch Samsung Q8F with Freesync and love it. However it only does 1440p at 120hz. I got the X95K at an amazing deal, however should I just shell out another $600 for a 77 inch A80J?
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thanks again and I'll watch your new video tonight. However I went ahead and canceled the X95K and ordered the 77 inch Sony A80J instead. Also got an amazing deal on the A80J so it was an easy decision. I'm really 😊 about. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
For anyone like me just seeing this video now, awhile back Sony patched the VRR/local dimming conflict out with a firmware update. So VRR and local dimming work at the same time now and it looks incredible.
Thank you for confirming this!
Just thought i'd drop a message and say hi after you mentioned on the livestream that you were a fan, which is very nice to hear : )
I'm now off to check out your other content! and apply a few more thumbs up 👍🙂
That's amazing Paul! Thank you so much for saying hi and for checking out the channel.
I will not start playing games on this TV :) thanks for your work
Actually I really like this panel. So many choices this year. An excellent video Brian.
I'm not a gamer but I love watching your reviews as you do them really well. Keep up the good work !!!!
Thank you so much!

Yes, it will.

I'm considering getting this set or the Z9k in 75. Might have some toy money coming in soon. I'll probably be working when this goes live, thanks Brian.
Looks like you and I are in the same boat precisely!
This was a great stream Brian. It's insane how good this TV is but I feel fomo could hit with the vrr problem.
S95b for gaming is where it's at.
Selling my X900H for an A80J continues to be one of the best pivots I’ve ever made. You simply have to go OLED for PS5!
@@Gutztv07 Oh yeah, it’s called the XR chip, and most of Sony’s 2022 lineup will have the 2nd Gen one, so even beyond the A80J/A90J!
How much I selling them for
How does this tv match up with the qn90b? I think that"s the real competition for LCD
Does local dimming work with 4K120hz content with VRR disabled? Like Ratchet and clank 40fps fidelity mode. I'm guessing you can play and still take advantage of 4K120hz with local dimming just not unlocked frame rate bummer!
Yes. Its only disabled with vrr

So if I just plan to watch tv and movies with a little Switch gaming ( no VRR) I should love this panel?? Thanks so much for your time.
Thank you! Very useful material.
Man, one can undoubtedly feel the sound of disappointment resonate from the depths of your soul. I'm not sure what to make of all that now, i was hoping that this would be the one. Damn it! if it wasn't for the OLED's burn in and life limit..

Thank you for your thoughtful comment my friend. Yes I'm slightly devastated. Thank you so much for watching
Great video as always Brian !!! How do compare it to the oled c1 and c2??
Soo… the motion blur for 30FPS mode on Spider-Man be “disabled” in Game Mode due to lack of Motionflow with Enhanced Format (w/o VRR), right?
Someone finally said it!!!!! I think i secretly ruffled a couple tv reviewers feathers when i told them they shouldn't bring movie settings into gaming. They were trying to make the image as u would a movie to "get the creators true intent" which leaves the game image dark n dull. U dont want the image to super inaccurate but its definitely not supposed to be running movie settings on a video game
Great comment Jay! Thank you for watching
I think they already added the VRR and local dimming (at the same time) modes now.
I just wanted to ask can the Xbox say it is using vrr, or not, so the tv, can adjust vrr mode or local dimming. Or let’s say you are watching a movie using the 4K blue ray player, will the tv, then enable local dimming automatically, since you are watching a movie, or is that not possible, meaning it’s better to have a separate blue ray player, to play blue-rays, and will having an Xbox plugged in to a different port, disable local dimming, on a blueray player, as well, or will the tv, see that I am playing a movie now, and enable local dimming.
i've never used VRR. does it make a big difference? I'd rather have local dimming zones for better contrast.
It does! Thus vid has been updated so now you can have both! Thank you for watching
Great review, what about insert 4k movie on ps5 to X95K?

Question, if you plan on pc gaming and using GSYNC - assuming the X95k works with GSYNC, would that allow the backlight master drive to work? Or would it be disabled like it is with VRR? I know LG OLEDS are perfect for Gsync, curious if the X95k can do Gsync and bypass the limitations you mention in this video. Fingers crossed! Sucks about PS5 VRR though but I PC game more than play PlayStation.
Gsync would work, but it wouldn't change anything with the local dimming being off. That is a TV setting.
Do you think the vrr issue could be solved in later update or is it just the tvs limitations? I really want to invest in this beast.
It will be a hardware limitation and never changed.
It was fixed in an update
i think i heard some time ago that this has something to do with the Local Dimming algorithm on these tv´s which will not work correctly with variable framerates above 60fps when VRR is turned on, the same goes for Oled tv´s which have some near black flickering when VRR is enabled...i hope this stuff can get fixed in the future

Great video man ..
That's why OLED is the go to TV Technology for me. Local dimming is almost always negated in some way when in game mode on LED tvs. QD OLED in bigger sizes has me extremely excited.
Well at least it's not limited outside of VRR in Sony Game mode. It works fully without VRR.

Definitely sucks, but having left VRR disabled on my LG CX and Series X, it doesn't worry me. With VRR enabled, I found I needed fps above 80 to look smoother than 60 with VSYNC (I'm very sensitive to stutter). Ideally we'd have VRR and LD, but it always seems to be coming 'next year' with Sony, so I wasn't surprised with this news.
how about a95k with qd oled? brightness wont be an issye and i hope vrr with local dimming will be turned on
Is there a single 4k mini led tv out there that can do full array dimming with 4k/120 and VRR? Aren’t other manufacturers suffering backlight control issues with VRR, like latency with the dimming because of processing limitations. I thought I had read that somewhere.
Why not just disable it. Fps rarely dips below 30 on ps5
About to grab the X95K 65”. Sit 8 feet away. Should I go 75” instead? Not worried about cost, worried about Dse screen uniformity etc. light control in my room is no problem.
Whats your advice?
Thanks as always.
I'd go 75" for that seating distance. DSE isn't typically a concern for Sony. The X95K is excellent
Do you recommend a 2022 sony Oled for console gaming?

When I purchased the 75in sony Z9J in late 2021 I notice this clouding or DSE issue when local dimming is turned off. It's the same when VRR is enabled and on sony's tv navigation home screen or tv apps. But mine wasn't as bad as yours. I called Sony and they told me that this is normal and within quality range. I absolutely disagreed because for a $6600 plus tv quality control shouldn't let that issue passed. It shouldn't exist for a premium master series. Which makes no sense yet I actually have improved almost like the native motion from soby is able to keep up and it just feels so fluid. Anybody who let's gaming from soby hold back there purchase they shouldn't. It shouldn't even be a worry tbh. Get the tv you like the look of believe me you won't regret either choice. Also vrr does work flawlessly on sony now. So that's a plus tbh! Now of course the oled tvs you don't have to worry about local dimming so a bit less thought there.
It's just marketing that LG took advantage of and people just repeat it.
You can obviously use Sony but it does feel laggier
When I changed from a CX to X95H it felt like playing in quicksand...
People can feel the difference of 5ms trust me
@@ArtVandelayOfficial sorry, no you can't. You probably felt "lag" because of the backlight algorithm. There's no perceptual difference between 12ms and 17ms.
@@pb24dagrk Stop dude just stop ok
It's very noticeable in dogfighting and pvp shooting like run and gun
But you can believe whatever you like to validate your TV purchase
@@ArtVandelayOfficial sure, enjoy your TV and whatever you believe man. No hard feelings.
We just need FPS counter on Bravia tv I want to know the current FPS while playing games on PS5 with VRR
I couldn't agree more! Thank you for watching
Though I still want to figure out, how to get vrr working on an xbox and a Sony x95k…
Waiting to see the Z9K.
Great video! I'm surprised you can afford all the giveaways in the comments though... :P
DF just explained this morning, that all LCD/LED panels are affected by this VRR back light flaw it’s not just Sony buddy and your wrong on VRR on the PS5 as well, it does help input lag, screen tearing, and frame rates. Basically all gamers should go for Oled
U THE MAN BRIAN THANK U FOR BRINGING UP THE LIFTED BLACKS TOPIC' WHEN VRR IS TURNED ON THESE SONY PANEL'S OR LED PANELS IN GENERAL THEY LOSE THERE LOCAL DIMING LONG LIVE LOCAL DIMING LOL ''''
Best tv history x95k🙏🙏
Do a X95K vs A90J vs G2 Game Mode comparison
Hi Brian. I am seriously considering the x95k at 85" to go larger size from my current 65' a8h oled, however the news of the 8k z9j at 6k at 85'' seems like a great deal ! which panel will you recommend between those two? the z9j is only 500.00 dollars more , it was almost 10k$! originally .
@@verticostate why do you say that
@@michaellubeck8464 because you get better contrast and HDR performance on the x95k vs the z9j
Wait for the Z9K in the 85th size will be 9999 dollars Size 85 has even more local zones
.In the 75th size 6999, and buy it. Take size 85 for a wow effect, at 3 meters is perfect.
@@SpencersStuffTV please elaborate on that claim?
If X95K Is that good!? How good is A95K gonna be!? I've got goosebumps people! 👌
Maybe better then Samsung s95b. Same panel, different processor. Don't hype to much because differences can be slightly better for sony but not something big.
@@tomekkwadromek765 Agreed!" It's going to look similar to thisc(X95K). It's mainly going to be more accurate than the S95B, but won't necessarily look better, or by much because I've been saying this for a while....just as we've seen in this video how the settings for the most part don't change much (due to keeping the accuracy), the A95K will essentially have one look and it won't be as wild or impactful as the S95B...more accurate yes, but I highly doubt it will look much if any better, and it won't be any brighter.
It will be amazing my friend! Thank you for watching
Thing with oleds is the clarity is superior to leds. love the nits, almost oled blacks and amazing contrast but side by side the contrast and sharpness of oleds always make leds look fuzzy in comparison. Ps I’m buying the 85 inch x95k it’s just a comment
@@georgedres7914 Normally I would say this is so, but the X95K is special with the backlight master drive. Amazing tv and crazy size so please enjoy it!
I am glad you fully described the issue, game changer for me. I was going to go with a Sony product now that prices are down, but either I'm going to wait for 2023 Sony improvements or just go WITH a Samsung LED
Hi Chris, Sony has definitely made improvements since this video with several updates. However they are still way behind the competition in regards to gaming. Thank you for watching
Aww man... this has been a deal-braker for me. /: OLED, it is, I guess... Thank you for the video.
Sorry Alex and thank you for watching
Finally software update's going to solve the problem!
v.6.5929 update
Brian, if you're not gamer would you buy the 85 X95K or 83 A90J for your bedroom.?
I'd go X95k without hesitation! It's excellent!
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY it's what I was thinking, but I went to all the stores on my area to take a look at it, but they didn't have it
thank you so much my friend
My pleasure Santos! They aren't currently on display yet at most retailers. Thank you for watching
Thx for the video any word on how Sony will protect the panel for this and the A90k model against image retention? Can't wait for the review on the Sony A90k! I wish they would just release them in one go....all models. But i guess they want to sell the top tier first because of a profit standpoint...
There are different safe guards in place for burn in but unfortunately image retention does still happen but quickly fades. My x90k should be here any moment
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thx for the reply im asking this as a concern for gaming that THEY promote as such yet many games have static status bars. Or watch tv with the stations static emblem on the corner. If you can shed more light in your upcoming Sony reviews about safety measures against burn/image retention for these models that would be very appreciated for many viewers. Subbed + like.
Hello Brian... What is your giveaway this time??
No giveaway. It's a scam
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thank you.. I've been deceived by some person. Asked to pay shipping charges
Can this "issue" be fixed by the tv firmware update one day?
I don't believe so my friend
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY 😫

Nice tv! Brian would you say this tv gives a better gaming experience than the S95B?
Heck no Steve! The S95B is on another planet
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Ok Brian thankyou
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY S95B only 65 inch though, 85 inch will always win.
Not a dealbreaker. Vrr is like a bonus for me. Pretty sure motion is fine on the games even without vrr
I think I’m going to chose this one, I was thinking for the a80k but I’m don’t wanna buy something what it can burn panel 🥺 for example some games have static info in the hud and oled has more vulnerability to burn it
I was planning to buy this T.V for gaming since the local dimming is disable when VRR is enable, it's not worth it.
This T.V is make more toward for movies than gaming. Is Sony aware of this issues?
Brian, I Sub just because among any others reviewer you give us a deep dive into the tech, Thanks you !!!!
Excellent comment Vishal! Welcome to the community and family
Thank you for doing this. Since this Is a back-lit panel, could you in your show talk about the technology and design difference between it and Samsung QLED?
They are essentially the same especially this year as they are both mini led however Sasmung has excellent gaming features to balance the loss of local dimming
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Thank you. Can't wait until next year when QD-OLED gets bigger screens and gets more of the usual improvements.
Brian we need a On/OFF toggle for ALLM on PS5 really really badly !!!
I'm sure it'll be added in an update by Christmas. Not sure which year though.
Beautiful image quality, but the gaming issues are still there, take too much work to navigate to change things when you're in the middle of gaming action, and etc kill it for me, even with the A95K. I love the image, but not more than the S95B lol
It won't matter for the X95K, as VRR should be left disabled. Sony would call that a feature :P
@@Z4d0k why should vrr be disabled?.isn't that required for 2 1 and better frames?
Fast forward to today, and they now have the updated vrr!
Most definitely! I covered it in several vids. Thank you for watching!
thanks for the video from a gamer perspective, this is a big flaw that favors OLED even more for gaming purposes. I am afraid the upcoming z9k will also suffer from this which is just not acceptable for us gamers. I understand vrr with local dimming would require lot of processing and i have my doubts this can be fixed via software. I wish someone would reach Sony asking if this will be addressed but knowing their conservative take on things it's a big question mark. I see this as heart breaking as i was looking forward moving from OLED to Sony mini led
My pleasure Milky and thank you for the great comment! Believe me when I'm telling that I'm trying to reach them and the engineers. I will be doing a vid as a letter or a request directly to them soon . Thank you so much for watching
I'm in the same boat. I've been eagerly awaiting this TV all year, but now that I know VRR and local dimming can't happen simultaneously I'm having 2nd thoughts. It's a damn shame, because I suspect this will be one of the best looking TVs of the year, but I'm only upgrading for the new gaming features and this feels like the wrong choice.
Wish this one had a 55 inch variety because I can't fit a 65 in my space
Anyone have issues with Amazon prime video with some shows not playing in 4k , went to watch reacher says uhd but plays hd , others work fine tried on ps5 and TV app on x90j same issue
Exactly what I wanted to know
Excellent Alex! Keep in mind that the x95k has been greatly improved with gaming features and local dimming. Thank you for watching
