It’s heart from scenes like this that are missing from Multiverse of Madness that just makes the first movie a much better film to me. Multiverse of Madness was cool, but it just goes in an entirely different direction.
I so agree. This is in my top 3 and it hurts to see that the sequel prioritizes cameos and action over scenes like this that impart genuine wisdom and showcases the actors skill in evoking emotion. I'm hoping that Phase 4 is just a mirror of Phase 1 where they are still figuring out their rhythm for the next saga. Hope they iron out the kinks in Phase 5.
I honestly enjoyed MoM was it the best movie? No. But it continued strange on his path it showed that despite his progress in his first movie he still had issues, I think it would have been interesting if they had ended up in a universe where strange had died but the ancient one lived to fight Thanos and that she gave him more advice about his controlling issue (something like, "that's why you didn't see any other way... you were always looking at the largest picture but missing the small details" or something like that) Chávez played a maguffin in the movie but the actress was mostly fine they just didn't know where to go with her and couldn't really use her in any of the fights (no one uses young girls in fight scenes unless it's featuring a bad organization) and from what I remember Chávez in the comics didn't really back down from fights (I am glad that they made her younger so there wouldn't be an implied romance between her and strange but it came at the cost of using her in action)
I really hope Strange gives the same line to someone who dies or is afraid of dying in Infinity War... "There's no reason to be afraid. . Death is what gives life meaning. . ."

@@topdog1128 As a verified millennial I can tell that no, no we do not call this cliche. Far as I understand it this hatred and bigotry towards millennials is just the cycle of life. The elders look down on the young and think they know so much better, and the young keep challenge the old ways, paving a new way toward a new future.
@@topdog1128 You are very ignorant to say that about millennials. As if them being younger than you does not give them the ability to understand pain and sorrow or love and heartache. I’ve talked with thousands of adults just like you with your deep rooted jealousy and hatred towards the young people. You need to understand that your generation will soon die out and all you’ll be remembered for was your boomer anger. OR, you could instead sit down with a person younger than you and have a serious conversation with them because you might learn a lot. It is true that our age gap differs and we live very different lives, but at the end of the day we are all human and humanity could do well with some love and acceptance.
Four words. That's all it took to make a profound statement; to cause the protagonist to experience a life-changing revelation; to understand the bigger meaning. It's so sad yet heartwarming that her final lesson to him was the simplest and yet most important lesson he had to learn- but then, maybe all the pain, heartache and personal trials made it easier for him to understand it.
I cried at this scene in the theater. My grandma had passed away two years prior and I remember this monologue brining back so many emotions. It was one of many waves I had to endure.
Just some speculation, but i think this is why the ancient one was reluctant to teach strange. She says that she has peered into many timelines and they all lead to that conversation with him. Basically this means that she ultimately knew that she would teach him the mystic arts and that it was the precursor to her death. For all her power she is still human and very clearly states that she cant see any further than her death. She was afraid to die just like everyone else. Maybe she was still clinging to the hope that she could survive if strange never became her pupil. However, the imminent return of dormammu meant that she had to teach strange, and so she relented. Thats just my own speculation and im probably wrong
Think this scene also shows how he had changed. As a doctor he was cold towards his patients. In the start of the movie, a woman hugs him after he saves a family member, he turns away and just gives her an uncomfortable pat on the back. Here he holds the ancient ones hand and shows true heartbreak for her passing. Even if he was able to go back to being a doctor, again, with his hands healed, he would have been a better person.
@@amirriddle Noooooo even Strange couldn't do it. He's a good person at heart, but you have to have an exceptionally good heart to do so. A paragon of good, if you will. I think Martin Scorsese said that Marvel movies aren't cinema simply because he hasn't actually looked at what they're trying to do. He hasn't seen the whole painting, he's only looked at the individual fragments. These movies on their own are pretty good...some not as good lol but that's not really how they're meant to be seen. These aren't separate movies that are one and done, the plotlines span over years of character building. It's actually quite remarkable and it's even at a breaking bad level of detail. Every single new thing/idea that gets introduced is meaningful in some way and it's introduced incredibly seamlessly. An recent example is Blade, we know he's coming but they've already introduced us to his world through small details in Loki. Should the movies be able to stand solely on their own? Yeah probably but that's not how these are made and it's not how most people see them. A show as a whole isn't priased for how it's individual episodes stand on their own, its praised for the overarching story of each episode. Some people scoff at Marvel movies but as a filmmaker, it's honestly one of the greatest cinematic experiences I've ever had. Seriously I kept my tickets for each movie because I know my kids will be amazed to know that I was in the theatre those days. I watched Iron-Man 1 as a 7 yr old kid and have seen every movie in the series since then. So when I saw Endgame, I cried what? maybe 3-4 times? I cared so much about these characters and Marvel rewarded me for sticking with them the whole way through with a payoff that ties it all together into a perfect bow. Seeing Ironman, Captain America, Dr. Strange, THOR!!! and SO many others for the first time and then continuing to see him through out the other movies has been one of the most uniquely rewarding journeys I've ever had. There's just nothing like it and I'm so incredibly grateful to be alive as it's happening. The level of character development is insane, no other movie has done it like they have. It's pure movie magic and I can guarantee that none Marty's movies have done it quite like Marvel has. Cinema is art and art is only art when it makes you feel something. If you see the entire saga from beginning to end like I have and it didn't make you feel anything? Then I don't know what will.

This scene along with the scene where Black panther goes to the panther dimension to see his father again are the most beautiful and powerful scenes in the MCU.
August Magee He overcame it when he allowed Thanos to win. He did the same to Dormamu dying over and over again for probably thousands of years. In infinity war he also overcame his arrogance when he realized its not about him to stop Thanos but it was up to iron Man, captain America, Thor and the rest of the Avengers to work together to defeat the mad Titan even without him
"...one must break the rules to serve the greater good." Exactly what Strange did in Infinity War and Ancient One did in Endgame by giving up the Time stone
I think this is one of the most incredible moments in the MCU. It's where Strange accepts his mistakes and starts to be a better man and where The Ancient One accepts her that her time is up and is ready to die It’s a point where a journey ends and where another begins
Such a cliche thing to say, But so powerful, going through life and missing it's biggest lesson, "It's NOT About YOU*💯. I've been selfish so much in life and those words really resonated big with me in💯
This scene provides a huge easter egg to the final scene of infinity war. Like the Ancient One said, "She has seen through time, altering it as she went, only to return to this moment in time." She even mentions she could not see past her death. Dr. Strange however could see the defeat of Thanos which to the eye was after his death. This means that h e along with the others are not dead, just someplace else.
Stretching all possibilities is how Strange won in Infinity War, no matter who near missed Thanos' defeat (Quill or Thor), no other way was found in their present time, but the future where another victory can be done.

I studied film and we were taught that because you read from left to right, characters on the left are usually seen to have more power or importance (a bit of a long shot for most films). However in this scene, Doctor Strange is constantly on the left and as soon as she delivers the "its not about you" line, the camera dramatically changes as he realises he's not as important/self obsessed as he once was. He really begins to focus on what she's saying and takes on the life lesson. This simple un-missed camera change really adds that oomf to the scene, brilliant work!

These scene finally make more sense after the Endgame. she probably too arrogant to surrender the time stone.. until she heard Bruce telling her what Dr. Strange did. she even told Dr. Strange... sometimes you need to break the rules in order to serve a greater good. You're are not the only one. I cry like a baby.
I don't care what anyone says about the casting of this role.
She absolutely killed it. I loved her performance.
This scene is so much more meaningful after watching The Endgame.
For real.
This is the most beautiful scene of all MCU. Tell me which scene is more beautiful than this one. I'll wait.

Handsome Devil Yondu's death. Captain America's speech from Winter Soldier.
The flashback scene of the Valkyries vs. Hela.
Vision talking to ultron about humanity
frigga's funeral from Thor: The Dark World
It’s heart from scenes like this that are missing from Multiverse of Madness that just makes the first movie a much better film to me. Multiverse of Madness was cool, but it just goes in an entirely different direction.
Exactly
The sequel is just bad
Soo true and I really missed the original sountrack from this movie in multiverse of madness.
@@SL-zn9oh ik. I'm tired of cameos and fan service
"There's no reason to be afraid. . Death is what gives life meaning. . ."
Well he died
He made a bargain with Thanos.

The dialogue from Ancient One is amazing.
I love how wise she is.
I need more of her 😭
This scene alone makes me rank this movie up a tier or two
-"I'm not ready"
+"No one ever is"
I really love this exchange because Doctor Strange is not ready to start his journey while Ancient One is not ready to end hers.
I cried at this scene about the third time I saw it. I thought about its message. And its haunting.
The scene is so well thought out and frozen in time with death breathing on your neck, then ending up vanishing forever saying the most beautiful words you've ever heard really got to me.
Her words applies to all of us. We are all little souls stuck in a rock thats flying across a vast galaxy. We never know our purpose in life, but we know our time is too short.
Tilda was phenomenal as the Ancient One. Marvel nailed her cast to absolute perfection. This scene is a calling to all of us and know that time is always moving...so make the best of it!.
Tony Abreu the purpose is service and giving. Unity Human Race. United we go far.
@@addicted2yoouu And yet we live in a constant cycle of hatred. 40 years ago the fear of communism was all the rage, and today the rise of socialism is causing fear in people. The fear of socialism seems to become prevalent with each passing year and it worries me. Is this what humans are? Siding against each other? Maybe someday we may unite, but I fear history is about to repeat itself.
Everything Tilda Swinton touches turns into gold. She is a phenomenal actress. Extremely underrated!
The Greendalewitch I totally agree with you.
Everyone thought casting Tilda as Ancient One would be terrible
And thats why she gave up the Time Stone. Although she never saw past this part, past Thanos, she trusted Strange.
"its not about you."
...that line opens me up every fuckin time. So accurate. So well delivered

I would love for Marvel to go more in to this direction. Wisdom that benefits humanity. I wish we as a human race would embrace these ideals.
Our old school generarion calls this ideals...milleneals calls this cliche...
Is that what all stories strive to do.
It’s always has. Even before this film

"It's NOT about you"
Just some speculation, but i think this is why the ancient one was reluctant to teach strange.
SativaGamer420 nah you’re spot on
I watched this on mushrooms and thats a perfect description of her character
I agree with this logic
Ikr, but why did she die in such a way... getting stabbed, i thought shes more powerful than pre infinity stone thanos
Look how hulk took the time stone from ancient one in endgame. That scene answers your question..

Dr strange meant to be the best of us
This was amazing
He might be the new face of the MCU
I think he might be the next person to use Thor’s hammer if he ever had to
@@amirriddle Noooooo even Strange couldn't do it. He's a good person at heart, but you have to have an exceptionally good heart to do so. A paragon of good, if you will. @@Swordsman99k I mean Vision isn't really a living thing so I don't think it really counts.

Annoying Dormammu to death.
It’s so easy to be upset and angry because you felt like you were dealt a bad hand. Realizing that it isn’t about you is one of the most valuable lessons you can learn in this life.
Underrated, and one of the most deepest scenes in MCU history.

Just one of many phrases you should carry with you throughout life. When you live by words like these, life becomes so much better. Listen before you talk. Seek to understand others before being understood yourself. Any time you put someone else's needs first, any time you're kind, any time you decide to reach out and help someone, you both become happier people, especially you.

@@Sam-uy2xw There's always something out there bigger than you. the events around you, maybe even your life, doesn't revolve around you. true greatness could only be achieved by surrendering yourself, by being in service, to something greater.
I think the most real part in this video is when she says "death is what gives life meaning,to know your days are numbered" that's hits hard
"Its not about you."
I have had those words ringing through my head all day long, accent and all, and couldnt for the life of me figure out what it was from.
I searched the words "its not about you, british lady" and finally this clip showed in my options and it just clicked. Lol
Same here
This is easily the deepest Marvel movie made. Really gives you a perspective on life & death.
"We don't get to choose our time. Death is what gives life meaning. To know when the days are numbered. That time is short." Beautiful writing.
Swinton was so well cast as TAO I didn't even care about the detour from the comic book counter-part.
Can't imagine anyone else playing the character now.
This is probably the most philosophical mcu movie
"Death is what gives life meaning to known your days are numbered, your time is short"
A great lesson ❤️
I love that line “we don’t get to chose our time” because I have made an attempt on my life but just couldn’t leave the people I love behind and now 4 years later I’m finally doing better so I’m glad I didn’t go through with ending my life

August Magee He overcame it when he allowed Thanos to win. He did the same to Dormamu dying over and over again for probably thousands of years.

"...one must break the rules to serve the greater good." Exactly what Strange did in Infinity War and Ancient One did in Endgame by giving up the Time stone
In real life too.
My favorite scene in all of the MCU
I think this is one of the most incredible moments in the MCU. It's where Strange accepts his mistakes and starts to be a better man and where The Ancient One accepts her that her time is up and is ready to die
It’s a point where a journey ends and where another begins
I wish the ancient one didn’t have to die. It made me sad :(. One of the saddest yet most beautiful scenes I’ve seen with an important message.
The producers had to kill her. Otherwise Dr. Strange never would've been the protector of the time stone and we wouldn't have Infinity War or Endgame.
Dr. Strange is my favourite MCU movie.
Closer to being Sorcerer Supreme.
Makes you think.
We’re in the end game.
Strange: Tony. It was the only way.
The soul realm
Stretching all possibilities is how Strange won in Infinity War, no matter who near missed Thanos' defeat (Quill or Thor), no other way was found in their present time, but the future where another victory can be done.

i know her casting choice is problematic but i really liked the end result. tilda showed this maternal quality that just ooze comfort feeling. probably my favorite supporting character in the mcu.

I grew to love her right from the moment she pushed his astral form from his physical form. The way she twisted his hand in a second and boom! She played her character with such grace.
I liked her in Constantine too.
Tilda is a superb actor, this scene always makes me cry.
Vision talking to ultron , Yondu's death , Tony talking to Howard , Dr.Erskine talking to steve , Yinsen's death and many more all this hits hard so deep BUT BUT BUT This scene is just soo I can't explain , She really taught something extraordinary . Thanks Marvel
The scene that elevated the doctor strange movie from good to greatness IMO.
“Death is what gives life meaning to know your days are numbered.. your time is short, you would think after all this time I would be ready.. but look at me stretching 1 moment into 1000 just so I can watch the snow” - The Ancient One
I was so broke a few days ago because I was not able to prepare for my exams.
I watched the lines "we are never prepared, Time is what gives life meaning and that our days are numbered ,"
This made me realise that even if i take a thousand years to study i wouldn't be 100% ready for my exam so I should attend it with whatever i know and fight the battle because its my death battle and every problem in life should be faced with even the little days we have 👏🥺🙏
Motivated me so much thanks.

Such a true statement, no matter how much we prepare we are never actually ready.
These scene finally make more sense after the Endgame.
she probably too arrogant to surrender the time stone.. until she heard Bruce telling her what Dr. Strange did.
she even told Dr. Strange... sometimes you need to break the rules in order to serve a greater good.
Feels like she keep on trying to prevent those disaster over and over until she heard bruce saying Dr.Strange gave the stone to thanos and she realize .. she has been doing it wrong for several times.
But this version probably didn’t see Bruce, when they time travelled they went to a different version of reality, like a copy but at a different moment in time.
I love how she says, "do you know what I see in your future...?" He says NO. And she gives him the most elegant "I'm dying here, hear me out..." Look. 🌌
Since I've been motivated by fear all of my life, this movie hit me like a train. I think its my favorite marvel movie when it comes to screenwriting and plot.
I wish the MCU films had more philosophical moments like this 🌌
I love this scene!
Reminds me of someone I had, who was like a father to me, a mentor. He always saw the best of me, and kept pushing me torwards something I couldn't see for myself, but he always did. Almost three years later and I still miss him a lot. It may not hurt like it used to, but sometimes... I can't help it but cry. Always saw this lesson from him... "It's not about you"
The ancient one is right about "we don't get to choose our time"
Black panther had a future in the MCU the MCU was somewhat his family

howtoeataham Same, but if she didn't die we wouldn't have this beautiful scene...
They need to bring her back I don’t care if they white washed the ancient one, Tilda Swinton is too good.
In a subsequent movie she shows Bruce Banner multiple timelines in many of which she is presumably still alive.
She might return in doctor strange multiverse of madness
Wasn't a big fan of the movie but this scene was really great with great message.
I just realized that face. The ancient one’s actors is the one who played the white witch. From Narnia.
Tilda Swindon and Benedict Cumberbatch have so much chemistry together when I saw this in theaters
One of the most beautiful scenes from the MCU. I've said this in another MCU clip on RUclips that these movies don't get enough recognition. There are so many scenes in this movie and others about life and characters themselves that I can relate to myself. Again I didn't really know much about Dr.Strange growing up but I went to see this movie anyway as it's part of the MCU. It is now my favourite MCU of all time. This scene breaks my heart and I cry every time. Perfect.
these types of moments were one of the many things that was lacking in Multiverse of Madness. Michael Waldron is really a menace to society
