Thank you for this video. Wasn't using it for the key replacement part but needed to open it up after water got spilt on it. Couldn't find that dang screw under the plastic next to the volume wheel.
Just as an FYI: Every single time you said, "I think it's in focus," you were incorrect. However, the video showed me what I needed to know. So thanks.
this video came in handy... dumped coffee on my brand new keyboard this morning and KNEW it got inside. happy to report that following along with this tutorial, I was able to get my board apart, clean it with electronic safe solvents, some canned air, and an old soft bristle toothbrush... keyboard is as good as new. Thanks for the walkthrough.
@@afniad426 no.. the keyboard switches made it through okay... actually typing this with that very keyboard. I didn't wait to let anything dry out though. As soon as I dumped it, I grabbed the tool kit and started disassembly. Once I'd cracked the side open to let the coffee pour out, I pulled the plug on it, took the keyboard outside and finished the tear down, watching the video on my phone.
Thank you for this video, it did help me disassembling the keyboard enough to fix a problem where I spilled a tiny amount of fluid, which made a couple of keys glitchy. Thanks to this video, I could see that each and every key actually acts as a screw to hold the main board in place: this means that not only is this keyboard not even a little bit water resistant (I did worse to 30€ keyboards without having a problem), it's also nearly impossible to service. Never buying a Corsair keyboard again.
I overlubed my switches(and used regular lube not for ones for keyboard) so now they are bit hard to press. I'm thinking about removing switches and cleaning them or replacing them with new switches. My keyboard is corsair k70 bought it like in 2013. Your video is really helpful, Thank you.
Awesome guide, thank you. I used this to open my keyboard and attempt to repair a faulty key that wasn't lighting up properly. Only after I successfully removed they switch, did I realize that the RGB LED is surface mounted to the keyboard PCB! F M L ... Typical Corsair BS. Item is 30seconds out of warranty, LED breaks, and cannot be repaired! -.-
I'm replacing a handful of switches on my keyboard with Cherry MX brown RGB's (The ones that were built into the keyboard originally) When I resodder the new ones, will the RGB continue to work as normal? Never done this before, wish me luck.
Thank you Sir, very helpful guide 👍🙂 Also if you still have the original box, you don't really need to take photo of the keyboard-- the box is excellent for referencing the keys layout 🙂
Remove the cables made it WAY easier to work on! Mine is all zip tied down with cable management at my desk, so to avoid removing all the cable management, I removed the cable and was able to very easily work on my keyboard. It's not difficult to do, and makes it so much more versatile to work with.
Hey there ... off-topic question here. My son spilled a milkshake in my keyboard. I removed it all and took it apart ... I got it all back up and working except for the RGB lighting. This was working before I dissembled the keyboard. It's back together, so I was wondering what I should be looking for if I opened it up again to fix that? Curious if I missed plugging something back in, but not sure where the RGB stuff is inside the keyboard. Any help would be appreciated before I open it back up. :( (I tried all fixes like firmware updates, hardware lighting settings, etc.) It shows the keys lighting up in the software client, but the keyboard is dark.
I took my girlfriend to Best Buy and all they had were MX Speed switches. The display units were missing more than 80% of the keys. For this I would rather buy from a store, but not when they are in that shape. I bought, on Amazon, one of the last K95 Platinum with MX Browns. The Browns are a great place to start. Then if you want you can add O-Rings to taste. I am still getting used to the upside down keys like the ?/ or the " keys.
Thanks for this nice video. I dismantled and cleaned mine watching this video. But why have you replaced that switch with a non-transparent one? On my keyboard, the lighting is either dimmed, gone or shows the wrong color. I am under the impression that the LEDs are built-in into each switch. Is that so? And if yes, do I need to find switches that have build-in LEDs to replace mine?
Hi, I know my reply is a bit late but I am facing the same problem. Looks like the LEDs are underneath the switches and you just have to use transparent switches so that the LEDs can shine through. The switch he used in this video is just white from the underside, the upper half is transparent. So the LEDs of the keyboard probably still can shine through.
@@jwar2163 it's the better version for gaming in my opinion. but since you know how to solder anyways you can put whatever switch you want (as long as it is a 3 pin switch only). you might want to take the opportunity to lube the stabilizers while you're at it!

Hello! Thanks a lot for the video guide! Can you please tell me if it is possible to make soundproofing in the case of this keyboard? I want to buy a 5mm biplast and I don't know if it will fit or not? Perhaps someone has already tried to make soundproofing on the Corsair K95? 🤔
