*Alright so. Bought & played with these today* firstly, they feel real nice! Couldn’t agree more about the feel off the putter. Irons and even driver. Felt like I actually gained some distance today off the driver which I was very surprised at.
*But* and it’s a big but. I hit a good few shots with mg3 wedge (not bunker shots) and the coating was in a bad way after…. Deep cuts everywhere! I’d definitely say the durability isn’t all what it seemed. Was very poor in comparison with say a Bridgestone tour xs, pro v1 etc. Honestly I’d even say you might be switching to a new ball after first 9! But on the 2nd hole at my local this morning, a par 4. I drove the green then sinked the 40ft’r for eagle. How could you not like the ball after that haha! Cheers for another top video Rick 🥃

I have been on this game for more than 35 years and if all promo talk was true, I would be hitting by drives some 720 yards (on par 4s measuring 1100 yards, of course), straight out of the gate every time, have a perfect short game at every shot, hit wedges out of bunkers 5 inches to the hole every time, and would need less than 1 putt per hole on every course ...But clearly, Rick, this does not diminish the value of your test videos. If one is mishitting the ball then that is user error, not the balls fault. Changing the ball is not going to make you better ball striker if you can't strike the ball correctly in the first place.

They’re long but too long for me to get use to. An example. I hit a great drive with a 3 wood which carried about 250 on a short par 4. I was left with 125 yards into a front pin. My pitching wedge normal carry is 130. I had some wind in my face and figured I’d play it at 130 and if anything, I’d leave myself a putt below the hole. I pured my PW and it looked good all the way. Everyone in my group was saying it’s going to be close. Then the ball just kept going. I ended flying the green and carried it 145. This was a constant issue with this ball.

Nice to see Wilson back with a good ball. The SmartCore was the last one I thought was any good. My mates and I used to love them.
    Welcome back Wilson 👍

Well, what can I say, I generally play Wilson Staff, ProV1 and Bridgestone. I played this very ball today in stiff winds. I saw the box displayed behind the counter as I paid for green fees and asked if that was their new ball? It was, so I purchased the box, $42 US, placed my mark on it and hit away. Unbelievable how good it played. It stayed straight in the winds. I was able to work the ball at will. Putting, I didn't notice any huge improvements, but damn the drives off the tee have never been better. My buddies noticed my tee box work too and they didn't know I was using this ball, since I often play the Staff model. Stopping the ball on the greens was easy-peasy. After my round I went back into the pro shop and bought the remaining two boxes they had left. It's fair to say this is my new ball. I don't know why one wouldn't want to give it a go, except that it's hard to find.

Thank you for the review - I went out and bought my a box for the Wilson Triad based on your video to test them myself - No, it didn't result in a magic low round of golf, I didn't find the fairways more, didn't get any distance increase, putted any better or felt the ball rolled straighter or anything. But striking the ball just feels better to me compared to say Titleist Pro V1's or Taylormade TP5s. So I am going to change to Wilson Triads, once I have lost all the Pro V1's and TP5s I currently have in my bag. (Wont be to long a wait... :D )

Feel has always mattered to me more than anything with a ball. It bread’s confidence.
If the ball really is more balanced than other balls, then it is going to help with consistency. And I was always taught that consistency was key.
Therefore, when I do get properly back onto the course as my Arthritis continues to recover then this is certainly a ball I would consider using when my basic consistency is back to what it used to be.

I have played 27 holes with this ball and I love the feel and it is decent off the tee and great with the irons for distance for me as well. My gamer is the ProV1x and I will finish the sleeve and as the weather improves I will finish off my dozen of the ProV1x left dot. Good choices out there.

awesome test.. I would think you need to find a low hcp 10-15 and after some pre-testing see if he / she is able to break 80

  • @legend9018

I did try these and they have a unique dimple pattern as well. Are they straighter than most really depends on the user much like most things in golf. But if we can make small incremental improvements through equipment it can save you a few shots throughout the course of a round. A forgiving iron or driver shot with a forgiving ball may just find a fairway or may just avoid a hazard which can lead to a better score on that particular hole.

I was satisfied shooting dreadful 102-105 last year with the Wilson Smart Core balls. Never found the fairway, never in a position to attack the pin and didn’t make very many putts, BUT $18 for a double dozen was such a great deal I bought 7 double dozens and burned through/lost all of them in a little over a year with 1800+ holes played.

Rick great vid as always. Goin to comment this until I get a response. You and Pete and maybe Matt to should put together a full set of clubs. Driver to putter. And play 18 holes. Everyone use the same bag of clubs. TWIST IS: they are ONLY GIMMICK CLUBS.
760CC DRIVER &Hockey stick PUTTER are a few examples. WINNER gets bragging rights. Maybe a funny trophy.

The whole engineering point to the Wilson Triad is the fact that all three layers have the same density. That allows the ball to ignore imperfect concentric layering, which in normally compounded golf balls (Prov1, Chromesoft, et all) introduce mass imbalances which affect the spin and flight of the ball in unpredictable ways. Off center golf balls in new batches from all of the major makers can exceed 33%, so one "bad" ball in every sleeve.

Found one of these on the course the other day, didn't realise its new from Wilson. First thing I did after cleaning it - bite it, so yes is it soft - but will have to see how it performs. For the price though, I don't see it performing that much better, if at all, to the Bridgestone Tour B XS. Like Rick, that's the only ball I've tested to perform better than a ProV1. If I was to go a cheaper ball, I've found the Srixon Soft Feel to be the best value, and stacks up well against the premium balls, overall 90% as good...

I normally play the Wilson duo pro ball I have given these a try. I'm a 25 handicap and have found these to be very spinny, feel great and ok of the tee.
I was still able to snap hook the ball, I did find more greens in reg than I normally do and I wouldn't say it helped my putting but I did chip really well with it ended up shooting a 91. But had a bad off the tee.
