Jack Nicholson’s eye brows deserve an Oscar alone.
Indeed 😁😁😁
@Miles Doyle yawn
❤❤❤❤you're not lying 😂
I still can't see how he didn't receive an award for the shining. That was a performance.
The Sentient Mustard dude hell no, don’t ever repeat that to anybody.
it lost too Robert deniro raging bull which is widely regarded as the greatest performance of all time. I'm a massive fan of Nicholson but I understand why he didn't even get a nomination when you consider the nominees that year. Please do your research before commenting bullshit
James Hetfield widely regarded by who ?? The deniro fan base 😂? Don’t get me wrong raging bull is amazing but no where close to the best performance ever. Jacks performance in one flew over the cookoos nest is clearly better, Daniel day in my left foot is clearly better, pachino in scent of a woman and both The Godfather’s is just as good if not better than deniro in raging bull
@@ajanthony1356 "Please do your research before commenting bullshit" Seriously, why? Why do people seem to feel the need to insult and berate each other just because they can't see each other? I know it's been like this since the internet was invented, but jeez, if you think that Jonathon Battiest's comment deserved that snark, what do you do when someone claims the earth is flat? Bomb their country?
De Niro won for Raging Bull which was better.
Didn't say a WORD about himself, instead he dedicated the entire speech to others. Now that's a humble man
He did. He said Ms Hunt
They usually do that.
Never met Jack but my image of him isnt that he is humble.....
I picked up on that. Mr this. Miss that. What a guy.
Ahahahahahahabahahahahahahahahahahah ZZZZZZZZOMBIESZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ALWAYS ZZZZZZZZOMBIESZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
Nobody. Absolutely nobody, is as cool as Jack Nicholson !
i think jeff bridges too but jack is on another level of coolness
Keith Richards
Dean Martin may be?
Absolutely coolest actor ever! Brad Renfro for a young actor who only lived a very short time was pretty cool too!
Harrison Ford💪
That "sinking feeling" joke is classic Nichsolson. That night Titanic won almost every award.
@@jacknicholson5863 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
thanks for the explanation. Now I got it.
Ok. That’s what that meant
Lol
@@jacknicholson5863 ..he was talking to Nichsolson.
The way he avoided the cracks in the floor. Unbelievable legend xxxxx
"You make me wanna be a better man" that line in restaurant sealed Jack's Oscar
Jack Nicholson is the only person in the Universe that makes wearing shades indoor looks cool lol
No, he's just the only one who can pull that off
@@StephenKershaw1 Lol butthurt
@@StephenKershaw1 everything ok stephen ?
Tilda Swinton makes it also great
Stephen Kershaw 😂
What is so impressive, is how he remembered so many names..even those departed.. you know what that means: That means everyone he works with gets his full attention and his respect, Legendary class act.,
He is crazy in positive way, that's why he is maybe the best actor ever :D
yeah not in mel gibson crazy way
melih narinç
Ok but, I dont think that Mel Gibson is crazy, on the contrary :)
That's ture! He is really amazing: his facial expressions must win an oscar all the time even when he is playing a film
Pachnio is fucking crazy also
I'm a huge Jack Nicholson fan. Yes he is a great actor I can agree with that. But to say he's the best ever is a bit of a stretch I think the best ever actor is Spencer Tracy he could do everything action drama comedy he can do it all and do it convincingly. Watch Guess Who's Coming to Dinner Inherit the Wind among others
Jack is unique, he doesn't need to act, just being himself is enough.
Exactly, when you're that good there is no need to be anybody else.
Ain't that the truth! He's like lightening in a bottle.
Yes he needs to act.
he works hard too, ever seen him in About Smidcht? he contains multitudes and i can feel everything he feels. he's fabulous
Though funny enough, he kind of plays himself in some other of hi films as well
That was one of the classiest Acceptance speeches I ever heard. Not About him but about a list of Appreciation. Starting with Being nominated right along with a great and popular list. Then making people feel good hearing their name who worked on it in a wider variety of ways. Finally to the deceased. While Acknowledging if his time would run out. And he kept it in time. And Acknowledging the Present audience... Excellent Jack....
You know who is the best actor in the world? You cant't handle the truth...
Did you or did you not win the oscar?
You're godamn right I did
🤣🤣🤣👍
That was great...
@Louis Gomez anything pre-9/11
You have to ask me nicely.
One of the best acceptances ever. Truly gracious, thoughtful and charming. And how did her remember so many of the deceased -- and J.T. Walsh, too! Bravo!
I agree, "they are not here anymore but they are in my heart..." I'll quote this forever.
Mark Woldin ahh man J.T. Walsh 😢 my favorite actor of all time.
@@leo29hornsfan one of my all-time favourites too! Loved him!! Great actor! 😥😥👍👍
No mention of Helen Hunt.....The co-star of the film. He also left her hanging when he got up. I think the omission was intentional.
@@ToddKing yes...I noticed that too. There has to be a story there. During the speech, you are waiting for "most of all I want to thank...." And it never comes. WTF?
"...had a sinking feeling about it all night..." That one took me a second. This is the year Titanic won all of those Oscars.
Good old Jack ...They don't make them like they used to in Hollywood. Pure charisma.
I agree. It will be a very sad day when he leaves this earth.
There are still plenty of good actors out there. The problem is Hollywood has shifted its focus away from top notch performances and rather focus on more ignorant themes- explosive Summer blockbusters, superhero movies, shared universes, political messages, etc. It’s truly sad
The craziest motherf****r in Hollywood is the best and most talented actor ever!
He is one of, but not the best! I'm just gonna say 3 names that are better than him as actor; Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Robet De Niro.
Jack Nicholson is 4th and then Daniel Day-Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio ;)
+Andi Berisha
Robert De Niro is fucking baller
Pacino and DeNiro better than Day Lewis? After Jack & Jill and Dirty Grandpa? Yeah, not really.
+David Caballero that's a dumb argument, you can't judge a whole career full of amazing performances, only for unfortunately act in a terrible movie, Mr de Niro gave one of the best oscar winning performances ever, or haven't you seen raging bull????
Jorge Esquivia Escobar I have, but I've also seen My Left Foot and There Will Be Blood and Gangs of New York and Lincoln. Day Lewis is miles ahead and has his integrity intact. He wouldn't be caught dead doing something like Little Fokers or Analyse That or Dirty Grandpa or The Big Wedding.
That was wonderful to pay homage for those great actors who passed in 1997 that may not have won an Oscar. That’s class to have remembered them! Very nicely done. Gracious.
How are you doing, I know you will be amazed to get a text from me, but to me it's nothing we all are human and I want to use this opportunity to appreciate you and say thanks for being a great fan
The way he danced onstage reminded me of The Joker
mee tooo.
He was avoiding the cracks. You have to watch the movie to get it.
+Leon Davis I want to
MrGabeanator Buy the DVD because you'll watch the movie many times. It's just that good. Helen Hunt's wet t-shirt scene is a keeper. Very nice set.
There are maybe 50 memorable lines in the flick.
Maybe the best is when Jack asks Helen to go with him when he takes Greg (who plays a gay character) to Baltimore.
She refuses.
Jack says she has to because for one thing, she owes him, and for the other, "I'm afraid he's gonna pull the stiff one-eye on me."
Helen does a double take. "The stiff one eye?" Hilarious.
Another is at the restaurant when he tells her, "you make me want to be a better man." She falls apart. What a nice compliment. She basically offers to sleep with him that night.
Of course Jack blows it right after that when he says, "I don't get it. I have to wear a coat and tie to get in here and they let you in with a house dress." Boom! She storms out.
+Leon Davis I will buy it on amazon.com
Peter Fonda's reaction is lovely and genuine. Glad to see they are still buddies.
He literally screamed yeah when he won, love it lol
Class act by a Fonda. I expect no less.
"My old bike pal Fonda" I keep forgetting they were in Easy Rider together lol
I also love how Jack "dances" onto the stage, and up to Frances............JACK is his own universe, and we all just live in it.....
He's jumping over the lines and or cracks in the tile. It was his characters ocd thing of his in the movie, 'As Good As It Gets'.
Step on a crack, break your mother’s back
He’s stepping over the cracks like his character did in As Good As it Gets
Matt Damon lost to Nicholson, so he killed him in The Departed.
Damn, never knew Matt Damon was such a sore loser.
He was going to be chopped up and fed to the poor
Grant McKeever lol
Grant McKeever Thank you for spoiling the movie
and then Mark Wahlberg killed him, supposidly for stealing a possible lead nomination for Boogie Nights
Love how he dodged the lines on the floor like his character in the movie 😂
Big Jack is the man. Best actor alive and what a voice. Unforgettable.
He is more Joker in real life than in his acting
He is one of the top 5 greatest male actors of all time and on totally another level of coolness which is so original and real and not superficial at all
His voice is so mesmerizing..
I swear to God he is one of the best actors to have ever lived
Gent M Undeniably
Not as good as heath ledger
Gabri3ldavies1234 While I also prefer Heath over Jack for The Joker, still Nicholson also did a very good job portraying the Joker and also looking at the overall career,Heath does not even come close to Jack.So...
Nicholson>Ledger done.
Gent M That is well established.
The way he comes on stage dancing and enjoying the moment puts a smile on everyones face
Actually he didn't dance .He was trying to avoid the white lines between the black tiles as in the film
@@ELENIMIR he kinda stepped on them and didn't look at them til the end of it though?
Nicholson is such an amazing actor! He totally deserved the Oscar for his performance on As Good As It Gets!
the greatest actor of all time.
Along with Daniel Day Lewis, yes :)
You both must have never heard of Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro.
pup lover Maybe it's just me, but I don't think there's any other actor that could pull of some of the performances Day Lewis has given to the level that he did. Not even De Niro or Pacino
Mundi Cox You know, DDL, while excellent, to me does not belong in the same pantheon as Pacino, DeNiro, Brando. DDL takes off years between performances and has less than half the credits of the other guys (I know he's younger.) He has the time, energy and focus to completely commit to a new character this way moreso than the others. Pacino, DeNiro in their primes never did this. One killer performance after the other for those guys. I mean, Pacino, did both Godfathers, Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon all in a span of 5 years whereas DDL takes off 5 years just to recuperate. Also, his movies don't have much re-watchability. Who wants to see My Left Foot or Lincoln more than once? Whereas Dog Day, Godfathers, Scarface, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Raging Bull all fantastic to watch again and again.
pup lover Thing is, Day Lewis has already entered the calibre of being called one of the greatest actors ever despite doing only less than 20 films in his entire career, so that alone tells you smth. Plus with him, he's never been in his prime, he's always been good and only gets better. That can't be said about De Niro or Pacino who have arguably gotten stale as they've grown, and someone like De Niro has had very questionable film choices in the past few years.
But it is a shame that Day Lewis has turned down so many good roles.
I have to say this "Nobody got A voice like Mr.Nicholson" Damn
"Ok guys, sit up straight and act presentable!"
- Francis McDormand is such a legend! 😂😂
One phrase that does it all.
Considering how Nuts a lot of the characters He played were, He seems like the most chilled out guy. He’s truly a brilliant actor!
Right before the old Hollywood died.
+Gore Elohim when we are in 2030 everything from the 2000's will be classics again, we have some amazing films that have come out recently by older directors
+Gore Elohim Hollywood died when it started to fill up with liberals during the 70s and 80s.
BartTibia yup!!
+BartTibia Haha what bullshit
They created a huge politically correct and biased opinion that those in Hollywood must follow to be able to keep their "fame". They play a nice card where they want world piece and more taxes. Liberals (not all) tend to play a "nice" card where they are the most educated and newest opinions on topics. Look at the Oscars last year. Because no black person was nominated there was a walkout because of oppression, yet if you understand anything about statistics it's easy to understand that it's logically just a result of numbers. People who become actors typically are white considering they are the majority population in America which equals more talent to choose from. There are only 13% of blacks in America and most of them aren't that interested in taking acting as a career. So statistically you would expect there to be almost always a white person winning. Why does colour matter? It doesn't. It's built on performance/talent. Liberals would use something like that to their advantage to make the public believe it was true and that they are very offended/concerned that there is this "oppression" on black actors and actresses in America so they will look good. Of course There's more to it but I would be talking forever. Anyways notice who the richest woman in America is... A black woman. Okay? Nothing to do with race so let's not pull cards like that.
He's always amazing to listen to, the way he delivers his speeches and everyone Respects him. There's only one Jack Nicholson
Jack Nicholson is a true acting Legend. The Man Deserves all the respect he receives because he is and always will be THE MAN!!! He deserved this Oscar so much
Definitivamente somos afortunados de haber visto al gran Jack, pero también a Bob de Niro, Al Pacino, Daniel Day Lewis, Gary Oldman,...
Relax bro... just an actor
Can you imagine if Jack Nicholson were a mob boss and right before they kill you, he comes in and gives you a terrifying speech.
+Metamorpheus watch The Departed
+Metamorpheus Have you not seen Batman?
Otto T I've seen all his movies.
Well you obviously didn't think about the departed when you made that comment. Or maybe, just maybe you did. Maybe you did, so that I would make this very comment, that's how I want to see it and now that it's done I hope your happy. I know I am.
When you said something about a terrifying speech, now all I can think of is Jack Nicholson playing Jules from Pulp Fiction.
No politics in his speech. How great!
He is so casual and charismatic and likable
A true acting genius, who seemingly comes up with expressions of moments all too memorable. Thanks Jack for the great flics buddy.
He deserves this really in the movie As Good As It Gets. The film never gets old. It's still in Netflix as of this writing ;)
Great, great movie! Humourous , heart- breaking, witty, introspective, all rolled up in a 2 hour film that we never get tired of watching. Must have seen it a dozen times, at least. And that never happens with most films.
Here's johnny!
**cut his hand with a knife**
Best speech ever. He could have gone on all night, they never would have forced him off the stage. :-D Jack is the man.
There truly is no one quite like him. He has an aura about him that’s hard to describe. You should just not question his talent, just sit back and marvel at greatness.
Must been an Honor for matt to be in this category with all this legends
my favorite actor in one of my favorite films....
I CANNOT DECIDE BETWEEN BRANDO, DE NIRO AND PACINO FOR SECOND PLACE, BUT No.1 IS EASY, THE ONE AND ONLY JACK NICHOLSON.
William Willberforce i think brando is overrated... good but overrated.
Chris Brady overrated?
Lol?
How?
Chris Brady i mean, i suppose this is what you mean, but he basically revolutionized american acting. like there were other method guys, but marlin WAS the method. not overrated. maybe the greatest.
magicpen6666 -
well to be fair i havent seen him in many movies so my previous comment was a tad ignorant
all of them are legends
Epic. There are Academy Award winning actors who you can start the symphony to nudge them off the stage, and then there's Jack.
So happy to hear him mention J T walsh, another great line deliverer who passed away that year.
he was the guy who played in steven seagal's film executive decision and breakdown with kurt russell
You can’t deny -- he’s one in a million. No -- He’s one in a lifetime.
How are you doing, I know you will be amazed to get a text from me, but to me it's nothing we all are human and I want to use this opportunity to appreciate you and say thanks for being a great fan
He’s one of a few actors that’s so talented, you know the win is well deserved even if you haven’t seen the movie
Jack Nicholson Is One Of The Greatest Legendary Actors Of All Time He Has Won 3 Academy Awards And 12 Nominations And Won 6 Golden Globes And 17 Nominations
You don't start every word with a capital in English.
Lol Jack's the man.
Greatest voice ever.
Peter Fonda and Nicholson nominated 27 years after easy rider.
"I think of a man, then I take away reason and accountability."
One of my all time favorite lines!
Greg Kinnear needs a shout out. He was spectacular in As Good As it Gets.
He was even better in Anchorman 2...
He really was.
hes good in everything he does ...
He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor but lost to Robin Williams for Good Will Hunting. That in my opinion must have been a real tough choice. Kinnear was excellent in his role in As Good as It Gets but I felt Williams was so long overdue for an Oscar that he genuinely deserved it even though As Good as It Gets is one of my top ten favorite films while Good Will Hunting isn't. If only Williams and Kinnear could have been co-Oscar winners that year....
kinnear won the NBR
The famed producer, Robert Evans helped Nicholson's career. When Evans had a financial setback he lost his beautiful house. Nicholson bought it and gave it to Evans as a present. What can you say about a man that would do that?
Evans write the legendary script for Chinatown, the film that sealed jack’s greatness.
He also gave Dianne Keaton a massive cheque after somethings got to give. Extra because it was a huge hit. Classy. Even before metoo he wanted her to have a proper share
Thank you for this story, Jack earned more than my respect, he is.. human.
Wow. Hard to believe Bob Evans lost his home. Must have made some seriously bad investments. Kudos to Nicholson for buying it for him.
@@lilybond6485 - If you can find it, watch “The Kid Stays In The Picture”, a bio on Evans. He got mixed up in a coke deal that went sideways, and became somewhat of a pariah. Jack Nicholson was one of the few who stood by him. A friend through thick and thin.
He deserved every award for this role. Beautifully ugly portrait of humanity. Best performance that year by a country mile. The consideration he gave to the character to humanise him and the risk he took to be looked upon as the 'bad guy' in order to serve the story and express the life of this man. How rare we get a glimpse into a life like this and the layers of complexity they serve. Wonderful
What a total class act; I really miss seeing him at the Oscars (and in the movies!). Hope he's doing well.
I like the 'sinking' feeling nod to Titanic LOL....and Matt Damon looks so young and cute!

Why don't you learn how to write English properly.
MDkid1 FUCK U how bout dat?
‘The Shining’ is my most favourite movie and I have seen it countless number of times by now. So much so that that has become the real Jack Nicholson to me. To see him so soft spoken- this feels like a performance to me!
biggest swagger of our age
Love how he remembered them, like JT Walsh (Markinson) who suddenly died not long before this.
Man. That was a packed list of nominees.
The way he completely ignored that woman as she reached in for a hug at 3:30 😭😭😭 sent me
She wasn't reaching for a hug lol. She was directing him off stage
There's always certain menace in Nicholson that even if he's all smiley and nice, it's as if he can throw darts with a quick turn in stare. He's as Shining as it gets.
You forget he was born in 1937 and is from an earlier generation of Hollywood actors, getting an Oscar at this age really makes one think why he didn't get them sooner for his earlier works, 5 easy pieces, easy rider.... The Shining!
Title should be Jack Nicholson wins once again
😅
The applause for Jackie looks like a raging storm. Legend!
Jack is so self-effacing and concurrently cool. Who wouldn’t love to have dinner with him and just hear all the stories. And, he single-handedly basically saved Robert Evans when he was at his lowest point. He seems like a loyal friend with a “ my word is my bond” mentality. I admire that quality; it is rare. Love ya, Jack.❤
After "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" Jack Nicholson's greatest performance is for this film. My two favorite living actors are Nicholson and Robert DeNiro. My other two favorite actors are no longer with us. Steve McQueen and Paul Newman.
Fortunata Pacheco Yeah ha. He was like James Dean.
+Fred Scuttle Mcqueen, Newman, De Niro, and Nicholson is a great top 4 list man!
+Fred Scuttle I agree completely that this is a great performance. And a great film. But placing this performance above his work in The Shining is something I'd disagree with. And if you don't mean chronologically by "after Cuckoo's Nest," then placing it above his performance in Chinatown is also something we'd disagree on. That said: Jack is the man! Beautiful, beautiful actor...
Also, I'd have given the Oscar to Duvall that year... The Apostle is one of the great performances of all-time. All-time. Up there w/ Cuckoo's Nest... :)
I can understand Paul Newman . . . Steve McQueen is a little random. I'd rather have Peter O'Toole or Jack Lemmon.
He's just stating his preference. He can like McQueen if he wants to lol. Also, anyone who's a fan of Nicolson surely appreciates that there's a charismatic quality that makes a star that doesn't necessarily relate to being the most convincing or technically skilled actor.
He's fantastic. One of the best actors of our time.
His voice and manner of speaking is so darn iconic.
Jack's the man! That's right! He's fucking untouchable! A living legend. The coolest guy ever to walk around on this planet! What a guy!
1:38 -- Greg Kinnear looked at him exactly the way he did in the movie. true love :'-)
The final oscar Jack has won. He is old now. We are going to lose the really great actors soon. Nicholson, De Niro, Hoffman, Pacino and all the others. I hope they will stay with us for a very long time, but time is not on their side. Jack, Robert, Dustin and Al... you are the best EVER!!

Easily one of the greatest performances by any actor. We never get tired or bored watching the movie and it's no surprise that it ran off with all the oscars that year

And this is how it's done. The Oscars atmosphere the way it should be, remembering who's important and conducting oneself with class, style & dignity.
He also presented Academy Award for Best Picture a total of eight times, more times than any other person in history - The French Connection in 1971, Rocky in 1976, Driving Miss Daisy in 1989 (along with Warren Beaty), Unforgiven in 1992, Crash in 2005, The Departed in 2006 (in which he co-starred, of course) and Argo in 2012.
He presented “The Departed” along with Diane Keaton.

I easily put him alongside Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
The Boy he’s a bit above both of them by a long shot but alright haha. What sets them apart is the 2 you named sold out & became gimmicks of themselves. They were all great when they were younger but Jack only got better with age. Not the case with De Niro & Pacino.

Jack Nicholson was brilliant in As good as it gets!-Well deserved!
Something about Frances McDormand that rings my chimes. She's no raving beauty and she doesn't have a killer figure but she has that special something that really grabs a guy. She's been happily married to one of the Coen brothers - Joel or Ethan - I forget which, for quite a long time.
Lucky man.
She's talented, tough, intelligent. So, she's fascinating. :)
+Leon Davis For me she has all those things AND a killer figure. Just watch her walking onto the stage in that red dress. Even from afar, her figure strikes you have that extra female quality - atleast to me.
+Leon Davis she is smart. thats what you see.
Francois Viel That goes without saying. But there are plenty of smart chicks who are stone cold ugly and Frances ain't ugly. Not by a long shot.
The best I can do is "real". Or "genuine". Typical Hollywood women wear their supposed beauty like a suit of armor. You'll never get past that armor to find the true woman. And even if you do, all you'll find is a ball of insecurity and self-doubt. Even self-loathing.
But you get none of that with Frances McDormand. That's what makes her so enormously attractive. A real woman. A "man's woman".
For a clearer definition of what I'm saying, go to a rodeo and get a look at women who run barrel races. In my mind, Frances could be a barrel racer.
She won the charisma lottery, plain and simple.
Ive always LOVED the fact, that given his fame and legend, he's still extremely mysterious. I like most of his flicks...but his mystery is the thing that fans like me, really envy, if we're being totally honest. We know him...but we dont REALLY know him, simply because you NEVER hear about him in tabloid or social media drama. He's a throwback.
yeah, well, haters gonna hate. his performance was brilliant, it's definately a role nobody else could've gotten an Oscar for, he made it complex, was consistent troughout the whole picture, showed probably every emotion an actor can show and yet was so effortless as always. and you guys who post about a sitcom like movie and think you have to play a dead president or something to win an Oscar, think again. some actors can make only those kind of roles special, well, Jack can make anything special
