my brother and i rented this movie over the weekend and we spent a good 80% of it going “WHAT?! WHAAAATTT???" bc even after watching the trailers and thinking we kind of knew where the plot was gonna go, the movie kept surprising us. all of the casting choices were really effective, especially with, like carey said, choosing really likable, familiar actors for those roles. the only thing i told my friends was that the movie was WILD and to watch the trailers bc i was too worried i’d spoil the movie, but i highly recommend it-just maybe watch like some cartoons or a cooking show afterwards.

This movie is 100% worth the watch, it’s disturbingly comedic and it definitely delves into some pretty serious topics. ie...sexual assault, revenge, murder, trust, relationships, etc. Also, the soundtrack is pretty ‘killer’ as well 🔪💔🔪💔🔪💔

New Zealander here, we are lucky our cinemas are open and I saw this in company. Can't recommend it enough. It got an R18 cert which I thought was too high, R18's are rare here, but it does dead with disturbing material. Beautifully shot and perfectly paced, there are few movies that the end takes me by surprise. I'd say they use humour extremely well, but would not call it a comedy.

I love how good his questions actually are. Compared to talk show hosts like the both Jimmys or Conan, James Corden even, Trevor manages to keep his show at a consistent quality and does not drift off the important stuff
He's also one of the few hosts of whom I actually believe he watched the movie/ read the book he was supposed to. I think a lot just pretend to have read it and only read the cover or the summary or something and then end up asking generic questions because of that.

I saw this video this morning before work and immediately rented the movie as soon as I was home. Just finished watching it and wow. Thanks for doing this interview Trevor! I'm so glad I watched the movie and it's going to stay with me for a long while. Watching it again with the husband later tonight! Carey's performance was out of this world! You know an actor is a chameleon when you’ve never heard their real accent. I’ve seen Carey in easily 6-8 films and she’s always played an American. Pretty crazy.

Very important movie. It was very hard for me to watch, since I came expecting a much more idealistic ending than we got, and I got VERY badly triggered by the climax scene. I had a panic attack that lasted for hours afterward. I still get nauseous and anxious thinking about it, but I hope more people will see it and have their eyes opened a bit. It’s important to sit with these feelings and confront them, no matter how painful. I had the exact same reaction to Blackkklansman.
The Dig is an awesome movie. I have watched it 7 times . Beautiful cinematography , screenplay and flawless performances from a great cast make this film as comfortable as a warm blanket . I believe that Carey will win the Oscar for PYW partly because the voters will have seen The Dig and can see her star in 2 great films in 1 month.

I loved the movie. Very powerful. But what parts were considered funny? I understand black comedy , but I just didn’t see it in this movie. Maybe, because of the subject , I couldn’t bring myself to think any part of the movie was funny.

The concept itself concerns me for this reason... I will watch to see how respectful it turns out. But I do worry. Enough people in the world do not take sexual violence seriously enough, especially towards women.
It's not a funny film about rape. It's a dark revenge thriller with a bit of a rom com embedded within. It's an interesting reflection of life, you can live a happy safe life but also know there are dark scary areas out there. I thought it was an excellent film with great performances throughout, very nuanced.
I was raped by a woman as a child and no examples come to mind it just depends on the context. The closest thing that comes to mind is the antecedent of boner, "comedies" where a boy is raped by his teacher and that is somehow funny or badass (it's heinous).
Promising Young Woman was a perfectly written script. It was amazing.

Serious question: Does making a funny film about rape trivialize the act?

The concept itself concerns me for this reason... I will watch to see how respectful it turns out. But I do worry. Enough people in the world do not take sexual violence seriously enough, especially towards women.
It's not a funny film about rape. It's a dark revenge thriller with a bit of a rom com embedded within. It's an interesting reflection of life, you can live a happy safe life but also know there are dark scary areas out there. I thought it was an excellent film with great performances throughout, very nuanced.
I was raped by a woman as a child and no examples come to mind it just depends on the context. The closest thing that comes to mind is the antecedent of boner, "comedies" where a boy is raped by his teacher and that is somehow funny or badass (it's heinous).
I’ve seen this movie, and it is 100% not a comedy about rape. It’s a dark psychological revenge story with a couple of comedic elements.
