Awesome video! When the GoPro slid by it's big eyes & across it's back & then it had one eye on the camera & one eye on the bait! That footage turned out so good!
Fantastic video, reminds me of my trip to Homer, Alaska for halibut. Thanks for bringing back the memories. We got some big ones out of the Homer Spit.
Great vid very interesting underwater perspective, showing the bite behaviour of the fish, gives you a better understanding of what is happening at the end of your line. Thanks well done
Fish has to listen to them say "you wanna keep him or not?" after fighting his heart out. Just like the gladiators in Roman days waiting for the thumbs up or down. Great video, I got my share of halibut this summer outside of Homer
Good stuff. Interesting how when it was fighting hard, puffed up with its dorsal fin cocked, you could almost see what it would have looked like back in time before it evolved into the sideways swimming halibut we all know and love. Fascinating.
LOL!!!.... awesome piece of video... really gotta love the detail on how that fish looked over the bait long before it nailed it... do some more... thank you
Caught a 181# with K-Bay out of Homer years ago first timer. Now I know what was going on down there. Every time the rod tapped the boat railing, the fish dived. Capt Scott coached me good. Was like reeling in a palette of plywood.
Wow! This is a totally cool video clip! Sure seems like they respond better to the bait when it’s being bounce or moved along the bottom... I’ll keep it in mind next time I’m fishing off my favorite point in Baja.. Thanks! BTW: Nice fish!
Wow inside look to how a halibut and small flattie go after the bait, the big guy came in and took over from the small flattie but he got his share. and the big fella bit off more than he could chew ultimately he ended up on the dinner plate. awesome video ty Sir
Seth rigged GoPro Hero with a sport spreader bar, black tape, commercial genyon(gangion), stainless steel wire then just aimed it at the hook. Estimated depth at 90 feet. Sunny, bright day no lighting rigged. Hook baited with salmon. Twenty recording attempts before getting this footage. Fish was 60-ish pounds. Lost his GoPro a week later on a bigger fish. (I submit, we viewers, crowdsource some funds for Seth to continue his AWESOME quest!)
Thought about doing that myself, pretty awesome! At the beginning of the video I thought is was more like 'Rock Sole' fishing with a GoPro. I noticed the Sole left in a hurry.
Woah that's a big fish! It looked smaller under water. Thanks sooo much for this video. Not a lot out there like this one. Just imagine if we could all have a camera on the line. It would be a game changer!
Pretty Cool especially the approach of the Halibut, and the way it lays right up against the bait, looking around for a bit... wonder what's up with that pause ? Great Video
Stellar video! A buddy of mine did that out in California when the GoPro's first came out. 50% of the time the Halibut would hit the torpedo sinker and not the bait...lmao! Our fish are little farts in comparison. Nice job!
Very interesting and great fun. Tried to peek through the comments and see what the weight of that fish was, but couldn't find it. Little help? Thanks!
Outstanding video. Is there any way you can show the rig you made.? PLEASE?? I have got to do this with a tuna. If you want to see us playing around with some little Blackfin search "griff blackfin" Thanks.
Great video!! I never realized how much time we were wasting staying in the same spot if we didn't hook up quickly. Seems a hungry halibut will bite just about anything that smells like a fish that comes their way. Line shy? Looks like dock rope was used for the line. Nice catch. Next time I fish for halibut and we are not hooking we will move to another spot.
Really, how did you keep the camera on the fish the whole time. I would love to see you rig. I hooked my go pro to my tuna rod the other day in NJ and it got hit by two sharks head first and then I saw tons of Black Sea Bass on the bottom, but it kept on flipping over into the sand and up in the air. Any ideas on how to keep it upright? Thanks and great video!
Too bad you lost your GoPro. Are you planning to do this again? You might have to use something stronger than black tape though, I bet that was your weak link in the set-up. Great vid, thanks for sharing.
What kind of rig was that? In California with monofilament and a halibut leader setup the trick to landing the halibut is when you get it to the top, put your thumb on the spool and click it over to free spool. They play possum and will violently crash for the bottom and snap your line if your not ready for that. Your video was very cool. That was a big toad.
Hey so I've never owned a go pro or anything. Maybe this was covered in comments, but could you see this footage live as it was going on or was it just "fish as usual" and you get to catch both the but and the footage? Thanks, and very entertaining (and educational, for that matter!) video! (p.s. nice comment about how the buts don't care what it looks like... Most lures catch fishermen, not fish!... and I love the flopping on the deck ending!)
Thats amazing! id be scared to lose my gopro but im sure you had it set up well. The wifi doesnt work even 6 inches down in the water though I tried it. Atleast with my ipod. great work really cool
that is such a freaking cool video!!! pretty work!!!
deermeatfordinner no way is this dmfd befor you got RUclips famous
oh my gosh no way
Hey dmfd getting my first silver stag for Christmas, great present because next summer I’m moving to Alaska. Should come up there and fish more often!
this is seriously the coolest underwater halibut video I've seen. great job! sketchy when he almost went around the anchor
Awesome video! When the GoPro slid by it's big eyes & across it's back & then it had one eye on the camera & one eye on the bait! That footage turned out so good!
That is so awesome thanks I need to try that on our halibut videos so cool. What case did you use to get that deep?
#BoutdoorsAlaska
Stock case. We were pushing limits. It can handle way more than it gets credit for. Haha
Fantastic video, reminds me of my trip to Homer, Alaska for halibut. Thanks for bringing back the memories. We got some big ones out of the Homer Spit.

How deep was that video shot at
Fish has to listen to them say "you wanna keep him or not?" after fighting his heart out. Just like the gladiators in Roman days waiting for the thumbs up or down. Great video, I got my share of halibut this summer outside of Homer
best fishing education video i have ever seen . getting to see their behavior was amazing .
Awesome video. Halibut saw the camera and was like....Not sure what you are, but I am going for it !
That was neat. It was a lot bigger than I thought once you had people for perspective. Good video.
Awesome video. I've gone halibut fishing a few times and had no luck. I enjoyed this video, thanks.
That was one of the coolest fishing videos I’ve ever witnessed!
You win, that was the best Halibut video I have seen EVER!
This brings a whole new meaning to fish finder. Great video! Excluding the 324 tree hugger's, who now have nightmares.
haha a+
Add some professional orchestra sound to it and it would the number one horror movie of the year,
Way to go Seth. Thank you for sharing this cool vid. As I write this I got fish stix in the oven CAN'T WAIT.
Good stuff. Interesting how when it was fighting hard, puffed up with its dorsal fin cocked, you could almost see what it would have looked like back in time before it evolved into the sideways swimming halibut we all know and love. Fascinating.
The best footage! Nice catch
Thank you!
Cool vidio, thanks for posting it! Halibut look like they put up a good fight.
Impressive.....I love fishing but never seen anything like this. Awesome!
Amazing footage.. When he approached the field of view I was like NO WAY!
Very cool, thanks for sharing. Nothing like breaded pan fried halibut cheeks.
That was great. I’ve caught so many but never watched it on TV! Thanks.
One of the best videos on RUclips.
Nice catch, and thanks for the view. Its videos like these that make efficient anglers. Again thanks and good job!
LOL!!!.... awesome piece of video... really gotta love the detail on how that fish looked over the bait long before it nailed it... do some more... thank you

BTW: Nice fish!
Good video. I has thinking that was an ugly bulky leader but it works obviously.
The sound of the drag on the reel is awesome
That's an awesome idea. Cool to watch!
New title: "Halibut Hates the Hero". ;) Great video; very interesting to see their behaviour.
Excellent footage, thanks for the upload!
awesome footage!! Couldnt have asked for this video to be amy more perfect!
This is an awesome video and interesting too. Very informative 👍🏼
Picks the go pro back up to show the blugering with the deadblow hammer... love it! Great vid!
Wow that's an amazing video!
Wow inside look to how a halibut and small flattie go after the bait, the big guy came in and took over from the small flattie but he got his share. and the big fella bit off more than he could chew ultimately he ended up on the dinner plate. awesome video ty Sir
The best Video I ever seen! Greetings from Germany
I love halibut!! Great video!
Wow! Pretty cool video! Thanks for sharing man!
That camera takes one heck of a beating! Nice video!
I love fishing for tuna like that. They're only decent table fare. But they're awfully fun to catch--especially when they school!
Seth, Dude that's some killer footage, Awesome Rig Job for the GoPro!
GREAT VID A++

Super cool. Great video.
Awesome video! It was interesting how easy it is to hear the reel running and winding, all the way on the bottom
Trying to get halibut from my local jetty. You guys make it look so easy.
That was amazingly fascinating, I start to feel a little bad for the fish, then I remember how good they taste, bad feeling gone.
I'm sure that feeling was hunger...
Ingenuity at its finest bro nice fish
Excellent really enjoyed your video, thank you
Sperry, that is a good one. is that on the harvester? How's things going in this day and age?
Thought about doing that myself, pretty awesome! At the beginning of the video I thought is was more like 'Rock Sole' fishing with a GoPro. I noticed the Sole left in a hurry.

Very Cool! Watched that recovering from surgery on percosets. Highly recommend that!
That was the best fishing video I've ever seen! Please do more.
Stellar video! A buddy of mine did that out in California when the GoPro's first came out. 50% of the time the Halibut would hit the torpedo sinker and not the bait...lmao! Our fish are little farts in comparison. Nice job!
Awesome! It looked small underwater then when you pulled it on deck it was a nice size!
cant believe i watched that whole thing! it was very entertaining !!
Great video. Glad I read the comments or I would've thought the fish was crying. And it wasn't a small fish either! Got one on catching stripers?
Thanks for sharing this. It was neat. I sure would like to come visit you folks in Alaska but i don't know if I'll ever be able to.
DANM IT LOOKED SMALLER UNDER WATER. GREAT POV.
TMXPOZURZ ,,,,,,,,,,,, were Bill and Ben under the water?😎
Very interesting and great fun. Tried to peek through the comments and see what the weight of that fish was, but couldn't find it.
Little help? Thanks!
50 to 60 lbs
Started cracking up at 5:30 as the fish ran around town lol
Outstanding video. Is there any way you can show the rig you made.? PLEASE?? I have got to do this with a tuna. If you want to see us playing around with some little Blackfin search "griff blackfin" Thanks.
great fish and great video man! one hell of a sight
Great video!! I never realized how much time we were wasting staying in the same spot if we didn't hook up quickly. Great video. Can you tell me set up you use from reel to hook.
Dam i miss eating halibut...best fish ever...lived in Alaska 41 years...miss it..need to jig that line
I was sitting there yelling, Land the thing, Quit jacking around and land the damn thing. lol
like to see u do better
OH jackass I was joking, Go back under your rock and shut the f up
Tim LeDoux hahahahha fuck yes
LMAO
Really, how did you keep the camera on the fish the whole time. I would love to see you rig. they make a product called trollpro
Used a spreader bar and black tape. Then just aimed it at the hook.
Dude! That was bad ass!
it sure highlights the amount of sound which is transmit down the line from the boat
Awesome catch, not my native fish in NZ though so can't give it a go myself. But great to watch. Thanks
Awesome video! You can only get better video by diving. I cant wait to drop my GoPro down and hook up. That rig you used is amazing.
Awsome video!!! Wat u use as bait?
salmon
Awesome rigging of the go pro!
Great footage, what did it weigh ?
60ish
Great footage, how long did you attach the leader to the go pro and how did you stop the go pro from floating? Thanks
Lead keeps things from floating. We attached the gopro to a spreader bar with ss wire and black tape.
A lot bigger than I thought, Nice!
That's cool! Where the camara located at?
Too bad you lost your GoPro. Are you planning to do this again? You might have to use something stronger than black tape though, I bet that was your weak link in the set-up.
Great vid, thanks for sharing.
Lost the whole rig after we wrapped something on the bottom. The GoPro was attached with stainless steel wire and electrical tape.
I've had fresh Halibut. It is mighty tasty!
"fish as usual" :)
Very Cool! Now I know what it looks like to take a halibut ride!
Oh man it's so cool how the audio telegraphs exactly what's going on topside with the reel.
Holy smokes I want to do that. Nice fish!
can u show how 2 make that rig with the go pro
Thats amazing! id be scared to lose my gopro but im sure you had it set up well. The wifi doesnt work even 6 inches down in the water though I tried it. Atleast with my ipod. great work really cool
He lost it later.
awesome video! hoping to get one before a trip to valdez! What was that for bait? looked like a slice of salmon??
roger... pink salmon
Dude awesome video.
Looked at that leader and all I could think of was Sanford and Son.300.00 bux GoPro and a old worn out POS leader. Loved the vid though..thxs
that line has a breaking strength of 2500 lbs
that's a lot of FIGHT! Great job, awesome Hero set up.
Wow, nice, that halibut ran pretty good, all the halibut I've caught so far put no fight at all, just dead weight.
sweet footage, that's a crazy angle
Did you give up on the underwater camera Idea? Might want to try a downrigger just incase your line brakes....
I've always wanted to do that (for other species)...very cool!
Wicked footage! Always wondered what was going on down there.
