Did you know that some bosses scale with nail upgrades? In this particular instance where spells can’t be used, your reasoning might be correct, since I don’t want to crunch the numbers, but upgrading your nail adds health to bosses like the watcher knights, give knight, collector, etc. plus ALL the dream bosses. The dream bosses in particular have increased health by 3x by the 3rd nail upgrade. In normal gameplay this would mean that spells become weaker overall. However in this, it will still take less hits to defeat a boss, even if their health has increased. Hollowknight is weird sometimes.
Anyway, there are some easy charm notches to get in fungal and by having enough charms for the notches salubra has. I noticed you were wanting for notches in the beginning and those are some of the easiest ones.
