    It won’t replace the physical tcg, but instead get more people involved to playing tcg and thus, boost the physical tcg in the process.

      @@TDS1108Gaming I agree that digital cards or NFT's aren't going to replace or take anything away from physical cards or physical art in general. Please don't be talking about NFT's when you've done no research and no nothing about NFT's lmao. NFTs can be used in many different ways like proof of ownership just as one example.

    I love this rendition of pokemon, and it becomes more accessible to everyone. I hope Pokemon continues its innovations!!! HRO cards are DC COMIC cards that are physical, and have digital matches as well - The digitals let you compete in leaderboards and different reward items, and they can verify you own the digital unlike the physicals. Ive won uncut sheets because of it!

    I will probably play it a couple times, but I already play a lot of tcg live so i don't see myself playing a watered down version of it very often. It does seem like a very cool way to gateway casual collectors into playing the actual tcg and also give them a more faster, casual way to play

    I dont think replacing physical cards into digital would be a thing. Pokemon tcg is not like virtual card games that doesnt have physical cards such as teppen.
    Physical tcgs is always here to stay no matter how many generations had passed for as long as there are communities that support them.

  • @TDS1108Gaming
    @TDS1108Gaming 8 месяцев назад

    Honestly, I echo your sentiment. This is 100% a tactical marketing decision by Pokémon Company to stimulate new interest in the TCG and simultaneously maintain existing interest in this hobby in general. Replacing actual trading cards with virtual ones would be like replacing actual real world things with NFT’s which fundamentally have no actual value. There will always be the allure of obtaining something in real life, and trying to barter or exchange for something. The same can’t be said of the intangible.

    I believe digital cards opens up more room for creativity and design of the card itself, and will be well received especially by the younger generation. Who doesn’t love digital blings right?
    But the feel of a physical card, the feel of it’s textures, the feel of pulling a chase card in your hand, how the different colours and shine hits at different angles and lighting, the smell of a newly opened pack or box - Digital cards will never replace that.

  • @Oz__MTG

  • @Shiny_Luxray

    I don´t think this will harm the Pokémon TCG at all. Plenty of people will still be interested in physical cards. Also, I believe that if they simoltaneously update TCG live by making the UI better and the app overall more user friendly, they could use TCG Pocket to get more players invested in playing TCG Live and the physical TCGThis could be accomplished by showing the basics of the TCG in TCG Pocket, which could then spark more interest in the Pokémon TCG (digital and physical) as a whole, if executed well.

    Lol. Take it from your name. "Classic". Physical ones has memories, history, the joy of opening one. And will never be erased from the OG fans. Maybe the new gen will. And its also a good thing though, cause it will introduce the pokemon tcg(physical ones) too to those who didnt knew that there is a pokemon tcg.

    Big companies (like TPC) continuously analyze future scenarios, trying to predict future political decisions, crisis, wars, etc, in order to make their moves in advance and be prepared. This move could easily be an early response to the fear of a possible "futile cardboard tax" that might be in the air to follow the green delirium. Should it happen, TPC already would have built a solid digital fan base...

  • @joelh90

    I feel like if people want to collect pokemon on a digital platform, the obvious way to go is pokemon go. Its way more immersive as you actually catch them yourself. Collectables are a physical asset thats what the appeal is. Creating displays etc. i dont think it will damage the collecting side of the hobby. I get the fear but i think its unlikely.

  • @UrAveragePlayer0
    @UrAveragePlayer0 8 месяцев назад

    To me it was nothing about the app itself or the predatory mechanics of getting you hooked with free packs and micro transactions. My problems was the time they used to develop this app when the games are lagging, the TCG game isn’t fleshed out and their site releases are crashing. I just think this was resources they could’ve invested elsewhere to improve their already built concepts.

  • @Dr.Magikarp

  • @theshire5239
    @theshire5239 8 месяцев назад

    The app isn’t appealing to collectors base but rather actual players as digital cards, like any other in-game digital objects or treasures, would never hold its “collectible value”compare to physical cards which you can touch and hold. For one, the app could be gone and lose popularity in a couple of years if it’s not well maintained. Then it may incorporate micro transactions for certain features, upgrades, or cosmetics. The cards may be account bound digital items and TPC can issue as many as they want. There’s no limit in terms of relative rarity and copies.

    You have a good point. Seems like a good marketing move to get more people into playing the TCG. I’m thinking they may have 2 game modes in the app, a simple and the full, to transition new players into the game.
    I don’t think Pocket is going to obsolete physical cards. I used to be an avid gacha gamer (mobile games where you collect and roll for characters, which you can use to battle in game). Gacha games are nothing new and the allure of collecting physical pieces of shiny cardboard is different from collecting digital characters and artwork. While people can still use real money to purchase characters, digital assets are also prone to server shutdowns, so they are not as safe of an investment like physical assets. It’s a completely different game.

    This literally defeats the purpose of pokemon buying their own printing company last year. Or even making the “ change “ to print cards from yellow to silver borders. If they planned to go digital why would they make the changes mentioned.

    I don’t think I will play the game that much as far as challenging other players, but can see myself opening the app everyday to get the free packs. Which of course is their plan. Also, I hope you will be able to redeem code cards in the game. That might add some value to the embarrassing amount of code cards I have. 😂

People that invest in cards I don't think they're going to stop. I also don't think they're going to switch to digital cards instead of physical.

    I immediately thought of Duel Links, and I think PkMn TCG is more well suited for that format of gameplay. It's a more simple TCG, and doesn't require the multi-card combos of 3-4-5 cards as much as it's popular TCG bretheren.
