All those angles and math are breaking my brain🤯
I so look forward to your videos each week. Never disappointed. Thank you for sharing.
I'd have so much scrap from trying to figure out the compound angles I wouldn't need firewood for a month! Good job!
Your channel has taught me more about construction than any class has.
Way cool....you rock
Great video! I actually like the fact that you guys take some calculated risks. It's refreshing to see people working hard and doing what they love to do, even though there may be some danger involved.
+Les Mack
Thanks Les.
i like seeing a family that has the balls to do that kinda work . for a bunch of hippies yall put me to shame lol great videos great work great family
Its got to be cool to have a dad like that! I loved the vids!
a family that builds together.
Great video and nice building plan! Come to Brazil, that's the kind of house I want to build here. Thank you and congratulations for your pioneering spirit.
best part of the week
I always watch these new episodes the following Thursday... then I get to see the next episode Friday. No waiting.
Anyways, keep up the good work guys! Look forward to seeing the roof finally finished.
Hello 👋 ❤❤❤❤❤❤ i love how these videos where all in a roll❤❤
I'm an OSHA inspector and I approve of this video. Fall protection is for sissies.
Love it! Even with all the high risk maneuvers!
Bree had the right word for this video. Intense!
Great circus act,....now where did i leave my popcorn 👍😆.
that scaffold is a do not look down situation! and a don't look at it before you climb on it too!
+James stranger
Ah... only hurts when you hit the ground.
lol the tree house comment " oh im getting to old for this" 😂😂
Nutty!
Way to go Shelly. Turn and walk away if it's too stressful to watch. Don't do the dumb thing which is yell "Gary! Be careful!", which causes him to instinctively jerk around to see where the sudden danger is and thus fall to his doom.
Ha-ha. The dog looks like he/she is trying to tap out.
Yikes! That jenga scaffold was scary!
Yikes is right. I was going to post a comment about how unsafe that was, but I'm sure several have already. I gave it a thumbs up because it was interesting; but safe? No.
thanks for all the info
you guys ROCK!!!
I've enjoyed your videos for some time now and hope to see more. That's why I have to tell you this. The wall that began to sag and was put back kind of straignt WORRIES ME. Please don't get hurt.
California shirts all around yee
I was so scared, just for watching the make-shift support when putting the reciprical roof rafters up. I was like, "don't fall, don't fall, don't fall, don't fall!". And when the folding ladder was brought out... I'm glad I wasn't there. I would've fainted just watching it.
I know I'm a little late to the channel but none of that stresses me out as much as seeing how much Bryson worked in sandals. lol
Can you please share the dimensions of the round mud bag house and the size of the wooden sleepers and central Portion for making the roof???..
Thanks
Renting proper scaffolding is cheaper than an ER visit
I see she did her laundry in the end ha ha.
Awesome and no trips to the ER I would say it's a Win lol
how does your mom stay so young looking
I'm guessing you guys don't really need to worry about snow load in winter. here that would be pretty iffy.
Recipricol roofs are extremly strong. You would want some cross bracing but teepees use it and they hold up to snow fine.
i hope your not going to put to much weight up on that roof? the rafters should really be going over and under each other so it is self sporting by each one sitting on the one below it. im not saying the way you have done it is wrong but it does not look like a strong design.
+Kris Harbour
Not much weight. We sheet with 1/2" and use lightweight Ondora roofing. We don't have much snow...maybe an inch then it melts. No major wind storms.
ah ok, yeah it should be fine then. it looks very nice to. well done on the build. kris
Wouldn't be hard to add aircraft cable across the span for chord strength.
@@jeremywallace5961 uigf too k John this funny kooi I'm kjuop
I figure everyday is Christmas for Bree!
You'd had me sweatin' there for a minute Gary.
When they're done practicing on that precarious collection of various scaffolding, they might find job openings for similar skills, at cirque du soleil....
Thanks for reminding me that EFF building in circles with math.
Great work sweet family. But as I see the wall near the window that bend that day needs more attention :) you guys might need a second wire support from inside to make it level. Safety first. Love ur channel. Am waiting ur next upload yeeey
feckin' hell! so glad no one fell
Soooo sketchy! ... then we decided to balance on unicycles just to amp up the "wildcard" factor. lol.
I dont think that the walls can handle the Roof load if you doesn't take away the side-forces (horizontal) the Roof will create. i think you have to install a horizontal Connection between the lower Ends of your Roof logs. i am curious about it :-)
+Asae2
We are using a cable run at the bottom of the rafters to tie in the roof as a single unit. Check out how yurts work to see what I mean.
can u guys give a tour of your whole property?
+Grace H
Maybe sometime soon...
aaaahhhhhhhhh! what are you doing! your gonna fall! oh you guys are brave! oh geez! oh geez! you scare me!
Doesn't seem like a lot of support for the surface area of roof. What kinds of load can it handle?
Don't think they are done framing up...guessing this is just the rafters stage.
All of the applications I have seen using earth bags seem to be in dryer climates. Having lived in the PNW, would this work in our rainy, wet climate?
mara2hope you could just use tarps and stuff to keep them dry
I dont think so, I live in a wet climate too and we are going to build a round house using local whole trees and have a reciprocal metal roof with pallet wall interior and exterior. The thermal mass is not needed and in a wet climate air flow is vital. Also a stove is a great way to keep warm and dry inside.
Diesel needs a shocking pink Mohawk.
Garen says "awesome" - thinks it should go all the way down his back spine :)
I think you should do a video highlighting Diesel's life there on the ranch. I bet it would be hilarious.
That would be so much fun! Great idea - we'll see what we can do :)
Will it handle snow?
muy buena jaja saludos
Very cool! Hey, is there a video series or a tour of Garen's room? I tried looking back but didn't see it.
There are two vids. One on the exterior: ruclips.net/video/WdFU7unpOdc/видео.html & the other is on the interior: ruclips.net/video/Yei0a6OeRbo/видео.html :)
Thanks! I will check those out.
They appear to be notched over each other which should be good enough. See 6:44
⭕⭕ 360° ÷ 8 =45° ÷ 2 because each side of your angle will share that angle equally = 22.5° this will give you a hexagon.
Do you have any document that explains how to make this roof please? ( how to calculate the angles, distances...) we have tried with some sticks but couldn’t figure out where to cut and how

I started here and continued my research on line.
why no one dont use worker helmet? Those are heavy material.
by the way good family and good building :)
Can I open my eyes now?
lol! You and me both - Shelly :)
Oh mama I feel your pain, your loved ones were so very high up without a safety-net...so scary
What kind of plastic is earth bag material made of?????
Polyweave
👌
invest in some decent scaffolding if your going to work that high..
where's the reciprocal?
Yo dad I thought you talked about safety in other vids. what is this?
Perhaps, next roof could be built upside down at the begining of the round walls. Then just flip it over and hang it...
Umm... that's an idea
The idea is not new. Architect Antoni Gaudi used to design his cathedrals using canvases with stones of different weights. Of course, upside down. Then he used the same measures to build the big ones. And for that reason they all looked so organic and nice.
Yes, theoretically. However, I feel like there is a bit of a difference
between the conventional construction a roof based on an upside down model and constructing a roof upside down and then flipping it over. No just about that... but if you have a vision do tell! Sounds impractical to me but, interesting things often happen in unexpected ways!
Lol this can go on one of those videos (why women live longer than men) Scary!I do have a question, I know you guys don't do this ,but I thought you might know the answer or maybe someone else does. I was wanting to know, when the walls are up if its ok to coat the bags with tar before you put stucco or lime plaster or what ever is going to be the finishing coat? Would tar melt the bags? Sometimes I see people putting tar on the earth bag walls to keep the sun off and to waterproof them. I was just wonder, I think its a good idea, but I don't want to ruin the bags. Thanks for your help
+Amanda G
Great question. We have not worked with tar as a vapor/water barrier for the earth bag structures. We are able to get the sticky clay/sand/dirt mixture to apply tot he exterior walls. Maybe....attach chicken wire after a tar application....? Not sure.
***** Thank you so much for writing me back and for your help. My daughter and I are going to build a earth bag house and I'm afraid if we are to slow the bags might start deteriorating, so I thought the tar would be a great way to have the bags protected, yes we are planning on putting a tarp on the walls, but it gets really windy sometimes, you know how it is.
by the way I love you guy and your videos, I've been watching them for a long time. I told my brother now he watches your videos too.
Espanish legend plis 💞💞 plis 💞💞 plis 💞 plis 💞💞💞
Nope.
I'm very intrigued by earth bag structures, would like to build my own, and have been studying the method for a few months now. But using questionable fill in bags that are too narrow, resulting in unstable walls, and then putting a questionable roof design on top with cleats that are only anchored by a few nails into said small bags with questionable fill material...
That's a whole bunch of nope, Nope, NOPE!
This structure is going to fail.
Walls will collapse.
I just hope that no one is seriously injured.
OSHA would have a field day
Flipflops. No helmets. And being on that juryrigged tower with NO SAFETY isbeing a bad example. People get killed from much shorter falls. How can you put your family in danger like that? My OSHA-instructor husband hates watching these vids. Serious safety violations in all of them...
They're awful dopes. Talk about the wankiest looking scaffolding I've ever seen
Paidi O'Tailliuir ..they got guts , not like you mummy’s little helper. Better you got play now ya wimp.
@@fishmut they'd be ran off a building site with their tails between their legs for been an absolute liability. just like yourselve ya mutant
so many people on here are acting as if there structural engineers and have done this style of building a billion times T_T
Freaks
Lol difficult to watch y'all... Males! Smh
Brave or stupid...
