I have a degree in Memeology true I still hated it though cause me another person were it one day and we were the only ones playing and our band director needed us to be able to play it 💀
dude my director gave us this today and istg its making me wanna quit flute…. i’m also a freshman so i basically just came out of simple music to this crap 💔
I loved playing this march at circus tempo. It's a wonderful exciting march that really makes you feel good while playing it. Any of Fillmore's pieces gave the musicians a workout which made his marches so much fun to play as well as entertaining the audience.
Our high school band played this and on the day of the concert we played it about 20 clicks faster than we ever had Some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing a march!
When I was in high school the final strain of this was our Fight Song and it was played in its entirety at graduation. It's a difficult march but sounds amazing when done right.
When I was in marching band, we performed this arrangement at the Indiana State Fair Band Day contest and placed 3rd. Of course, two days before, we won a band contest in Greenville, Ohio, and won the sweepstakes and a traveling trophy too.
We played this at Central Michigan at the end of our set, and for some reason it just hit right. The reception by the audience was supercharged. We were the lowest band in the system (Symphonic? Concert? I never knew how those names were ranked. But we were definitely not the wind ensemble.), and our conductor (Jack Saunders) was even surprised by the response. It just struck a chord.
We played this in our spring concert in high school last year. It's still one of my favorite songs and if I could, I'd play it in all my concerts. I play trombone.
I don't ever recall hearing this played as a "screamer" like some of Karl King's marches. Usually it's at the tempo used here. It's much better when you can distinctly hear ALL the parts. I remember playing it this way when I was in the school band.
Es una alegria esuchar estas marchas llenas de alegria dinamismo color es fantastico lo bien grabadas es decir todo muy bien felicidades a los colegas Americnos que nos brindan con tan buena musica saludos desde España
Yeah, it's supposed to be around 150-160. If I recall correctly, it's what's referred to as a "circus march", and those kinds of marches MOVE ALONG, faster than what an average march would be. But, hey, if your band can't handle it at that speed, better to play it at a speed they CAN handle. Better to play it at a slower tempo and be all together and have a good sound than to play it as fast as it's written and sound horrible.
My one complaint is that the tempo seems to drag a bit. Really superb playing. The percussion do seem to overpower the winds at the trio, but that's a minor flaw. I LOVE Henry Fillmore. I send a message to upper winds at the first time of the trio with the countermelody, play louder. This is your chance to shine. The Trumpets and other brass instruments get the second time. It really bothers me that there is no stinger.
The reason the percussion overpower in the first trio is because when ever Fillmore preformed it while marching the percussion would play on the first trio, unlike when you here it in a concert hall.
Erik Wallace The last note getting repeated at the end. Listen to the end of a march and if the last note gets repeated that's a stinger. Try stars and stripes
Ohh okay okay, yeah Im playing this in Band( I'm a high school junior in percussion) I never heard that used before. But if you want to hear a stinger, listen to the recording on JW Pepper.com
Is the roll of at the end in the score or was that added in? I know that people do it for Stars and Stripes but I didn't think Americans We had a roll off in it.
The Flute and Piccolo parts for this song though, the Piccolo has to play one of its highest notes, which is above the staff, so does Flute, but its easier to play it on the Flute.
I wanna cry. This song is literally hard for clarinets. It’s one hell of a work for a 1st clarinet
It’s not so bad lol but the scaley stuff can challenging
I have a degree in Memeology true I still hated it though cause me another person were it one day and we were the only ones playing and our band director needed us to be able to play it 💀
Im playing it on trumpet
I play clarinet and it not if you get use to it
where did you leave us flute player. flute 1 have to go high on it
My band director cranked the tempo to ludicrous speed and we got sweepstakes at state with this March at the top of the program. Good stuff!
this is one hell of a work out for clarinet
If your pretty good at clarinet it is easy, I played it this year at all state on clarinet
Ha you’re telling me
I play 1st clarinet for this piece and i cant hit them high notes
Junior districts 2nd, a fun time
@@minecraftarmy56 me too, I got this piece today and I wanted to hurt myself
“Rip clarinet”...YALL THE FLUTES HAVE THAT TO LUV-
Yes but we don't complain 💅😍
And the piccolo has it too and we need twice as much air 😫
dude my director gave us this today and istg its making me wanna quit flute…. i’m also a freshman so i basically just came out of simple music to this crap 💔
I’m on clarinet for this in our community band
Ripperoni
Alexander Pentlicki I play second it’s so easy, but it’s probably because i’m playing with freshmen’s and i’m in 8th so there’s that factor.
F 😭

Way back in 1958 or 1959, our county honor band played this and it has been one of my favorites ever since. I played trumpet.
nice man, might i ask how old you are by chance?
Going to be 75 this fall.
me 2 im also a trumpet
In the 60's and 70's I played this march in 5 different bands and on 4 different instruments. It was a great march to play no matter which way.
I'm in an honor band right now, and we're doing this song!

The French Horn part is always interesting in marches! *said sarcastically*
Our high school band played this and on the day of the concert we played it about 20 clicks faster than we ever had
Some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing a march!
This was played at my High School Graduation Lone Oak High School in 1963. I have never forgotten it. It is inspirational to me.
My band played this my freshman year and it was so difficult and I still hate playing this march. I love listening to it though!
I have to play it and I'm on oboe, the worst part is that I can't tongue fast so I'm struggling a bit :/
Rip Clarinets
Tru
Right
It's not even that bad
Faith Garcia do u even have the music???
Emari Robinson yeah, I played this my freshman year.
I love this march. I played this with my high school band as the director in the late 80's.
A great technical workout for the upper woodwinds.
Ahhh, that F to G flute trill. Still my favorite to play.
I played this song for honor band the clinician cranked the tempo to around 200 bpm
This is one of the best versions of this march but there is no stinger at the end like the original :(
Right? There's an extra note at the end.
Okay so I'm not insane
I played euphonium in 1958 on this song in High School. Great march.

Ah man, as a trumpet player, I love marches. We get all the good parts, haha!
The baritone part is so much fun to play, definitely one of my favorite marches
our conductor had us stand up, saxes for first play of the chorus.
We played this at Central Michigan at the end of our set, and for some reason it just hit right. The reception by the audience was supercharged. We were the lowest band in the system (Symphonic? 1:36 is my absolute favorite
we are doing this piece in my band group.
Played at 1.25 speed, is the tempo our director had us play it.
We played this in our spring concert in high school last year. It's still one of my favorite songs and if I could, I'd play it in all my concerts. I play trombone.
Carly Underwood try bein' a woodwind and playing this XD. Good song, yes. But a song that leaves your face numb.
A wonderful and versatile instrument in which Mr. Paulin played well and professionally!
My high school band is doing this as our parade march next year.
I don't ever recall hearing this played as a "screamer" like some of Karl King's marches. Usually it's at the tempo used here. It's much better when you can distinctly hear ALL the parts. I remember playing it this way when I was in the school band.

Anyone else think that 1:28 sounds like a Cold War “thing of the future” advertisement?

ok! It's fairly unusual to hear a march without a stinger.
0:35-0:50
this is my schools fight song
Fox Tech?
Also performed at the pre-inaugural concert 20Jan17
Oof
The right speed is 1.25 since Henry Fillmore is circus march composer
A stately march tempo.
PlAying this in percussion
flutes do you think this or march of woman marines is harder
Is the roll of at the end in the score or was that added in? I know that people do it for Stars and Stripes but I didn't think Americans We had a roll off in it.
I think they added it in. I played this in high school and it was't in our arrangement.
We did this march, but its actually supposed to be taken around 150-160 lol
1:06
