      That exit of off I-64 has Bojangles, Cook Out, Raising Cane’s (daughter likes it, I think it’s alright but chicken fingers aren’t high on my list and that’s all they got, but they are good), Hooters (wife and I love those wings), Waffle House, Sonic, Zaxby’s, Krispy Kreme. There also used to be a Steak N Shake (near the Zaxby’s as I recall). The only thing local to me is Hooters and WaWa (and that isn’t a convenience store that I put at the top of my list when I want a quick bite.. Sheetz would be but they aren’t near me nor near Hampton Roads)

    I live in NC, and Bojangles is a cultural thing here. They have my favorite bone-in chicken and I love their fries too. Usually very well seasoned. Sometimes the quality can fluctuate depending on the location. The one close to me is really good, but I've had a few times at other locations where it felt like a different restaurant due to lower quality.

    • @ACoolKidsProduction
      @ACoolKidsProduction 10 дней назад

      Yeah, I was wondering how far down in the comments I'd have to go to find this. My wife's opinion of them has kind of been tainted by some of the bad ones around here. One of them was so bad that they were literally only serving one thing when I came in at peak lunch rush (wish I could remember what it was). Too much "freedom" in regards to quality control from one franchisee to another or something.

    • @danielpruitt8550
      @danielpruitt8550 10 дней назад

      I agree the quality control could use an increase in terms of fries seasoning and I think the tea recently has been over brewed, I brew my own tea at home so they should reduce the temp about 15 degrees, and lowers the brew time to about 6 minutes of possible.

    Bojangles has been a chicken place my mom and i always liked ever since i was 6 years old. The spice was always a favorite of both of ours. But over the decades we went less and less. Not because we grew tired of it, but because other places cropped up over time. Chick-fil-a, Pop-eyes, Raising Canes etc. etc. And we only thought about Bojangles whenever we would drive by one of their locations which only ever looked disused and slow. But to my surprise i saw an ad only recently on tv at a hospital i was visiting (my grandmother was staying there for recovery) for Bojangles of all things! And then 4 days ago i saw you uploaded a video! So i'm glad that you covered them and that they're going strong!

    I heard about Bojangles from a friend who loves them, but I really dig how you went into where the name originated. I was born, and raised, in Houston, TX and my old man was huge into the outlaw country/cosmic cowboy movement with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson along with Texas folk country stars such as Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Steven Fromholz, and Rusty Wier plus Jerry Jeff Walker. Walker came from New York state and landed in Florida moved to Louisiana, where he wrote the song, and then set up shop in Austin with his Lost Gonzo Band and recorded, mostly live, his brilliant 1973 album Viva Terlingua that helped highlight Guy Clark's songs and Gary P. Nunn. So, you did this old Texan's heart some good by doing the research on the name and the connection to that song and to the late Bill Robinson. Keep up the good stuff.

    It was so unexpected and funny. I told him yes and that I went there occasionally.

    I lived in NC from late 1989 to 2005; Bojangles' dominance was frankly astonishing. Prior to that I'd lived in Massachusetts, and fried chicken was something you got in a bucket from KFC or you got from some local place (usually also in a bucket). Dad had been down there for six weeks doing his new gig and getting the search for housing started, and when we flew down to be part of the house hunt, the first place he took us to was Bojangles, and he said "so the first thing you have to know about the South is that even the local fast food is amazing."
    And...he was right. The chicken was amazing; it was hot, plentiful, inexpensive, the sides (like the dirty rice) were amazing, the biscuits were amazing. It was a radical pivot in my mental landscape; suddenly Bojangles was the point of comparison I'd use to rate other chicken.
    When I moved in 2005, I remember thinking that KFC where I live now was...meh. Not bad, necessarily, but uninspired compared to what I was used to.
    And if they ever expand into Indiana I'll HAPPILY hit them up on a regular basis.

But I worked at a Bojangles from 2009 to 2011 and they definitely had boneless chicken then. In fact, the pictured meal at 5:36 is called a "4 piece supreme dinner" and, speaking as a cashier, it was far and away the most popular item on the menu at the Bojangles I worked at (at lunchtime/dinner time anyway). I myself ate it pretty much every workday, and occasionally for years both before and after working there.

    Oh, I think i forgot to leave a comment here when this went up!
    Former North Carolinian here, and Bojangles is probably what I miss most, and this video really gives me hope that they come to Canada -- Toronto, specifically. To me, it's basically a Popeyes-styled menu, but MUCH better. And I like Popeyes! (But I LOVE Bojangles!)
    The seasoning they use on their fries is SO good, too, I even buy it when I can to use at home. And their biscuits are just the best. Light and fluffy, with a crispy exterior -- just like a good biscuit should be. I especially love their biscuit sandwiches, the country ham in particular, and the Bo-Berry Biscuits, too.
    There used to be a location in the Union Station in Washington, D.C. that I would go to when we went there for Otakon, but it tragically closed during the pandemic. So unless they do expand there again -- or to where I'm at -- I don't know what I'm going to do! 😿
