    Normally I skip over the sponsor section of videos with no shame because people put them at pivotal points in the center of the video which is annoying, or they put them at the very beginning of the video when I was excited to get into the topic which is also annoying. But Company Man puts them at the end of the video so he does not interrupt anything and basically gives us the option of whether or not we should keep watching. That is respect for your audience right there! At that point I feel obligated to at least keep watching and listen to what he has to say about the sponsor. Company Man actually structures his videos the way that he would want to watch a video if he were in the audience. Nothing but respect for him! Interesting video as always!

    One of my favorite childhood memories was going to the Richmond mall in Richmond, Indiana with my brother and parents and my mom would always go to the Orange Julius and buy a large one that we could all sip on while we wandered around the mall. We didn’t have much money growing up, so this was one of the only treats that we would get when we would leave the house. I used to love going to that mall just to have Orange Julius.😊

    Living on the west coast, I've only really seen Jamba wherever I go. I think I've seen an Orange Julius once or twice, but it's predominantly Jamba where I've been, so when I'm in the mood for a smoothie, it's the only brand I search for, not necessarily thinking about alternate smoothie shops.

    • @TheCrazierz
      @TheCrazierz 5 месяцев назад +2

      Same. Never heard of those other two. Julius only in the malls. There is also Robeks but they are $1 more expensive than Jamba.
      Also the mexican frutas places have fruit salads and make smoothies and licuados (milk based instead of juice) but don't look as clean. I feel their drinks are more authentic and use just fruits and no syrups, less sugar.

  • @dmrmkw
    @dmrmkw 5 месяцев назад +35

    I invested in a VitaMix blender and I make my own green smoothies for breakfast every morning and have been for years. I control what goes in, how much sugar, etc. And at a much lower cost. I don't know the exact recipes that any of these four use, but as a consumer, you really need to watch out for how much sugar they contain.

    We had Smoothie King and later Tropical Smoothie Cafe. At their peak, our Smoothie King had a better selection and had some extras that added creaminess. Later a different franchise came (Inta Juice), and later the owner went independent. But what did they all eventually do? They axed 3/4 of their flavors, made the continuing ones less rich, and started selling trendy "health" foods and sandwiches. We only went for the smoothies, and in their updated state, you can make something better at home, so we haven't bothered with these places in ages. Huge disappointment at the time. The wide variety of distinctive flavors were so special and routine.

      I feel like I had an unusually bad experience with smoothie king. I live on the west coast and visited Jamba juice regularly. On a visit to New York I tried smoothie king. Whatever I ordered had a scoop of ice, a can of canned peaches (with the syrup) and some pumps of syrup fruit flavors. It was horrendously sweet and I had less than half of it.

Orange Julius always felt different from the others, because it wasn't pitched as blatantly as a "healthy" option; it was always a dessert option for me as a kid. man this video brought back some good memories. My hometown was too small for any of these shops, but there was an Orange Julius at the mall in a bigger town 30 minutes away. I remember sometimes going along with my mother or older sisters to shopping trips and whenever they included the mall, we would stop and grab a smoothie as well as some popcorn from the stand next door. I always got a small rainbow popcorn and small strawberry banana smoothie. I've since moved to a small city where I still get an Orange Julius smoothie when I order from DQ. We also have smoothie king here, and Tropical has a location, interestingly enough, in a larger city about 30 minutes away. No Jamba though. Haven't tried these other ones yet, as I mostly stick with a chain called Juice Stop now.

    In the early 2000s, a stop at Jamba Juice before school was a daily errand. Half the kids showed up to wait for school to open with a Jamba Juice cup. Near the time I graduated, Jamba Juice was *the* coolest after school job to have (second only to In n Out), and of course the “secret menu” with the drink that tasted just like a pink starburst felt like an insider secret.
    I haven’t gone to a Jamba Juice in over a decade now. Last time I went it felt like such a deserted wasteland compared to its hey day.

    Surf City Squeeze is the absolute best. The local one by me has the kindest owner too. She fills your smoothie, tells you to drink it just so she can pour the rest of the smoothie left behind in the blender into your drink. Never had any other shop do that.

    We had Orange Julius here at two local malls and I enjoyed a refreshing drink there many times. Sadly, these were some of the first places to pull out of the malls before the 1990's. Now, we have one mall here, but it's pretty empty. I miss malls.

    Heard of and seen all four, but only frequented Smoothie King both back home and at college (Louisiana company, so it had more stores around than the others). Was a great alternative way to get something healthier than cafeteria food after work in college. Didn't go back to one until they opened a store close to my previous apartment in MD.
    Since moving away, I just started to regularly make my own smoothies, which became less expensive and fit my eating habits with intermittent fasting while working from home. But, I may give any of them a shot some time.

    I wasn't aware of Surf City Squeeze until I had one of their smoothies last night at Woodfield Mall in Illinois. Had to be one of the simpler, fresher takes on a smoothie I've had. I'd say it jumped right to the top of my list. Too bad it's about an hour from where I live. Oh, and Jamba Juice is setting up camp in that same mall in the spring. Kind of a comeback for them in Illinois. The one in my neighborhood left in the late 2000's. They're nonexistent here now. We'll see how the reboot goes for them.

    MISS SMOOTHIE KING! There was one next door to my middle school, and would always get the Cranberry Cooler as a kid. When I go to Jamba Juice, I always get the Sour Patch Kid off of the secret menu. So good!

    Say, Company Man! I was recently thinking about places that seemed to come and go big and then disappear over time and one in particular was the Pasta Pomodoro Restaurants in the SF Bay Area during the late 90s and early 2000s! They were EVERYWHERE at one point and then just faded away!

    Jamba Juice used to be everywhere in the late 90s-early 2000s around town. I loved their Cold Buster and enjoyed whenever they had coupons for free drinks! Nowadays I'd never be able to handle all of the carbs in them! Like 91 grams! Yikes!

    I first met Orange Julius then Jamba. I'm also familiar with Robek's. I've not been in a Tropical Smoothie Cafe in years, and have never been in a Smoothie King, but remember when there were a few where I live. The Whole Foods I worked in early in the 21st century had a Jamba that later became a coffee/juice bar.

    In Florence, SC, there are two Smoothie Kings as well as two Tropical Smoothie Cafe. When it comes down to flavor and texture, the Pineapple Surf at Smoothie King is supreme…
    However, due to the lack of food options, I’ll probably go to Tropical Smoothie Cafe more because I can have the smoothie as an accompaniment rather than a whole meal

    I have seen orange julius, but I don't recall ever going there since I was a kid/early teen the last time I was in one of the malls that had one (my family moved and one of the malls closed down aside from a couple anchor stores since).
