...love this, Katie! Another hack for snags/holes in tights that I always did was to brush the snag with clear nail polish!! It holds forever, even after washing the tights! 😀
I danced eons ago. We danced on regular wooden stages . Polished wooden stages--slippery as all get out. To keep us from breaking our necks the instructors would prepare by washing the stage with coca cola. Sticky but effectve. The reason nail polish and hair spray works on runs is that it is so sticky it is like fray check, or cauterizing the area. Our tights were thick as chain mail so zero runs. We even had seamed tights.
Wonderful tips! :) Another hack I always do is, if the stage is a particularly slippery one and I'm performing in flat shoes, I spray the bottom of my canvas shoes with a bit of hairspray. Works every time!
Hi Kathryn! I really like watching your ballet videos. I know you are working with boys ballet programs and have danced with many male partners. Could you do a post with one of them on techniques and tips for boys starting in ballet? That would be awesome and I'd love to meet you one day!
i’m very new to your channel! it’s wonderful! thanks for these ballet hacks! regarding runs or holes in tights, i learned a trick a long long time ago 😅 and that is using clear nail polish on runs and holes. the repair is undetectable and holds it nice and firm (you can also do this with nylons/pantyhose, as well). another tip i learned years ago is criss-crossing your bobby pins. very solid and secure anchoring of buns and hairstyles. 🙂
Thanks for your video Kathryn! I was wondering is it possible for you to put up the main point in caption form? I am a visual learner and it would be so helpful for me to copy them down in my ballet notebook.
Could you make a video about dealing with an injury as a dancer?? I know this would be helpful for lots of people as well as myself. I love your videos by the way xx
We used to sew a loop of elastic to the back of the heel sticking up and thread the ribbons through it and it worked brilliantly... nail polish and soap also works on holes in tights, i would never have an ugly safety pin in my leotard ,if you want to do it quickly double the thread and do what she did with the pin but doing it nicely you would sew a tiny piece of elastic shorter than the fabric pinched and tack it both ends and then using the same colour thread as the leotard ,top or dress etc pleat the fabric as even as possible onto the elastic sewing the fabric to the elastic x
Hi Emily! I know! We had MAJOR problems with the Opera House. There were a lot of business issues I knew nothing about. I am represented by Bloch and they called me and said "You aren't going. We are protecting you." I am not sure exactly what happened, but I know there was a lot of false statements and lying involved. So we are rescheduling! I am still going to be coming to Detroit! Dates haven't been set yet.
I keep clear nail polish in my bag for ladders & frayed ribbons! I also use tape to keep the heel of my pointe shoes on - it's double sided & I think it's actually nipple tape/for keeping your top in one place, but it's super sticky & works like a dream. I can't feel it all either :)
I would say that the eyeliner bit wasn't a great example haha, but the rest of the tips were great :) I use your method for french twists all the time! It's fantastic!
Hello! At my studio this year we are doing Copalliea! My dance teacher wants the lead to do Italian fuettes and additions are soon but I can't seem to master them! Naturally I want a good part if not the lead but to do that I must improve on those turns... Do you think you could do a video on them? P.S. Sorry if I spelt some terms wrong and I'm a huge fan!
*you can also use clear nail polish for the broken tights!* It works! I use this hack when my tights rip a little and my mom also uses this hack too in fact! ;) RECOMENDED!!
Band-aid makes these great blister pads that are absolutely essential for the blister healing days between the peroxide and full healing. They don't stick very well if your feet get extra sweaty like mine though, so use some tape (cloth tape works well) to make them stay!
Hi Katie! I had a performance yesterday and I used your rosin on heels tip to prevent them from slipping and it caused aweful blisters mid show:( any other tips for preventing the heels of the pointe shoes from slipping?
+ayepol Oh no! That is bizarre! I have never heard of that before. I am so sorry! I think maybe you could try hairspray. But spray your tights, not the shoes!
This video was so helpful thank you very much katie❤️ I want to buy new pointe shoes but don't what type, what do you recommend? Or maybe you could do a Q&A video about pointe shoes or a 101 pointe video it would really help for me and so many other people🙏🏼💓💓💓💓💓
+parker lilly That's a great idea Parker! I will do that! The #1 thing I can say is to go to your local dance store to be fitted. They can help you try different brands to see what might work!
Just a tip, Betadine is an antiseptic that kills bacteria faster than alcohol or peroxide and it doesn't sting. I've never tried it on blisters but if you get a lot of blisters, it's probably worth trying.
Hey! I love your videos and I wanted to ask a question. In June I am going to New York with dancers in our studio company. We may be taking classes at Joffrey and are taking classes in professional environments. Do you have any tips for preparing for this trip? (Like how to feel ready and confident😀)
Hey Katie, I was wondering if you could give me some tips on muscular tcula: how to help them heel fast, and how to work through them and you know, anything you can think of will help. Thank you very much.
Thank you for these great tips. Do you know what I can do to get my point shoes harder? I have brought very soft ones because they fit ver good. But I don't want the shank to be to soft after wearing it twice. What can I do? Please help me!
Do you have any suggestions for getting blisters and cuts to stop bleeding? I ask because during nutcracker I got a cut on my heel that would break open every time I had pointe shoes on and they kept bleeding through bandaids and my tights on stage.
Once right before a competition I ripped a huge hole in my tights, it was almost the size of the front of my thigh. I just grabbed my hairspray and stuck my tights right to my leg 😂 it worked though
I love dance so much, and I dance around the house all the time. I would consider myself actually good, I can do many tricks, turns, leaps, etc. and with that I could have the potential to be great. When I ask my parents if I can do dance, my mom says she already has both my siblings sports to worry about, and to ask my dad. But he doesn't make an effort to put me in. I've wanted to do dance for years, and I feel like I'm too old now, ( I turned 14 about 1 1/2 months ago. ) Advice?
I would 100% recommend doing teen open classes if you can find a studio that has them. If you do that for a while you might be able to join the school permanently:)
Definitely get into dance, but just because you can do "turns" and "leaps" doesn't mean you're already good. Chances are you don't have technique and are doing it wrong, so make sure you get taught the correct technique or you will never be good
Do you (or anyone who's reading) have any tips for injured toe nails after using pointe? I have a presentation in a month, but it hurts so much to be on pointe with that nail, I can barely rehearsal. It's not all black yet to the point of draining the blood, it's pinkish and it huuurts!
I have noticed that my pointe shoes are dying a lot quicker than they should. I have Gaynor Mindens which are supposed to last long, but I have only worn them a few times and they are already semi dead. Does anyone have any tips??
I have also mindens and I have heard that some dancers take their old soles in their new point shoes so you don't work through them so quickly but I don't know if this really works 😄
The bobby pin hack: it will stay even better if you spray the pin with hair spray just before you put in in your hair, and remember: the wavy side down.
I like to darn my entire tip and where it goes to the top of the sole, and also OPI brand nail Polish rubberized base coat is great for traction on both the tip and the soles.
+Anika Meisel That will actually make it too sticky a lot of the time and can stain so i wouldn't recommend. Plus, since it is so sticky, dirt/dust will cling to the tips of your shoes making it even more slippery
Dear Kathryn, I am 27 years old and I have used bobby pins upside down all my life, apparently. Thanks for finally showing me the right way! Ugh, embarassing!!
Tyler Dun dance makeup is different to normal make up, you need really thick bold liner to make your eyes look bigger. Of course it doesn't look perfect close up hahahaha
Don't use a pencil for eyeliner use a pen / gel with w brush unless you are good enough to use a pencil becuase the eyeliner was literally thick and not perfect at all
Heyyyyy guys please help me I want to learn ballerina I'm 13 and i want to learn ballet so so bad but sadly I'm the most not flexible person The whole wide world can find and I'm not taking any class just watching RUclips Lolz Hehehehehe because I'm poor so please help me learn how to ballet please please please some tips or tricks or rules or hacks or whatsoever thing that can help because I'm afraid I might get injured and no one's here to teach me so please please please help me🙂🙃😕🙁☹️😣😪😢😭✌🏻️😂❤️💜🙏🏻😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😭
SPRAY YOUR BOBBY PINS WITH HAIRSPRAY IT HELPS THEM STAY
+Victoria Manos Very smart Victoria! Never thought of that!
ikr!!!! i have been doing that since age five IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM
...love this, Katie! Another hack for snags/holes in tights that I always did was to brush the snag with clear nail polish!! It holds forever, even after washing the tights! 😀
I use nail polish to stop my ribbons from fraying
+Arabella Tan me too
oml that actually works 😱
The hydrogen peroxide thing is so true and shes not kidding it stings like a mad man but it gets easier over time
I danced eons ago.
Sue M Most tights are seamed at my studio.
Could you do a video about how to deal with you period when dancing?
Satiyahsarai 12 True
Satiyahsarai 12 she has.
Such a good video! Also, if your ribbons don't want to stay tucked in hairspraying them works really well!
+lilyisalizard That is a great one!
tape works too
Your makeup is PERFECT.
Any tips with recovering from sore muscles quickly? And stretching through them? Esp when you dance everyday. Thanks
+Leah Rose Epsom salt baths! And make sure you roll out your muscles with a foam roller or tennis ball. It really helps!
Thank you!! I have never found a video like this in such high quality :) You're a life saver. love you!!
+Meg Conlon Thank you Meg!
Kathryn Morgan OMG!! You answered!! Thanks so much :) You're an inspiration.
Wonderful tips! :) Another hack I always do is, if the stage is a particularly slippery one and I'm performing in flat shoes, I spray the bottom of my canvas shoes with a bit of hairspray. Works every time!
I'm trying this next show! our stage was super slippery because we were using dry ice. so thanks!
Ah yay, glad I could help! Good luck with the show! :)
+Ellie Rosie Posie I like to spray some glue or apply a little bit of a glue stick

HelloXJosh not for everyone 😡😡
I love your energy! I danced ballet for 17 years and you have the best videos
nail top coat also works to stop the holes of your tights of getting bigger
You look so beautiful in this video! This makeup really suits you :) Thank you for this video!
What a great video! I am a ballet dancer and I understand all of these 100%:)keep up the amazing videos xoxo
+Laney McNamara Thank you so much Laney!
Thanks for your video Kathryn! I was wondering is it possible for you to put up the main point in caption form? I am a visual learner and it would be so helpful for me to copy them down in my ballet notebook.

I love your videos so much! They´re so helpful. Could you make a video about stage fright and how to handle it?
+Ni na Thank you so much! I actually did! I will link it here. Hope this helps you!

Omg I always put my Bobby Pinsky wrong for my dance bun😂🌸🎀 thanks for the tip

I'm coming to take your master class in Detroit! I'm so excited, you are definitely one of my favorite RUclipsrs.💗💗💗💗💗💗
+emily wash Thank you Emily! I can't wait to meet you!
So sad! I just saw at the door it's cancelled☹️
Hi Emily! I know! We had MAJOR problems with the Opera House. There were a lot of business issues I knew nothing about. I am represented by Bloch and they called me and said "You aren't going. love a good ballet hack!
+Hazel Windsnap Thanks Hazel!
You videos are so helpful! Defiantly going to try the blister hack right away.
I tried the tights hack and it worked yay😁😁
I love your channel so much! I'm having a marathon rn!

Hey Katie, I was wondering if you could give me some tips on muscular tcula: how to help them heel fast, and how to work through them and you know, anything you can think of will help. Thank you very much.
also if you get a hole in a pair of tights clear nail polish also works
This helped so much! Thank you!:) I'm the worst at winged eyeliner
Your videos are always so helpfull!
+Makenta Thank you! I don't have a tutorial, but many people have asked so maybe I will do it!
oh yes please a Video about grande jeté😊
Love this video, thank you!
+Rachael Eichmann Thank you Rachael!
hey im starting ballet soon, I bought stockings not tights. Is it okay to use stockings on a ballet class?
I do surgical spirit foot baths for blisters... but it hurts as well ;)
What can you do for then pointe shoe heel problem if you do not have rosin? And where can you find rosin?
Caitlin Soelberg I found mine in a high maintenance chemist
Pink panther, thank you, that's good to know!😊
Caitlin Soelberg You can get rosin at a violin store, or like a music store, or a pharmacy.
can you do a fall make up look?
+Double Diva Ballerinas I did a Giselle-inspired fall look. But I will maybe do a second one!

Thank you for these great tips. Do you know what I can do to get my point shoes harder? I have brought very soft ones because they fit ver good. But I don't want the shank to be to soft after wearing it twice. What can I do? Please help me!
Floor wax or some type of pointe shoe glue.
Vasaline stops cuts bleeding etc
clear nail polish also works for tights and it resist washes =]
Do you have any suggestions for getting blisters and cuts to stop bleeding? I ask because during nutcracker I got a cut on my heel that would break open every time I had pointe shoes on and they kept bleeding through bandaids and my tights on stage.
Superglue.
Put vasaline on the cut
Also if your heels are slipping use some water on the heels with the shoes on or just get loops
Can u make a video of changement battu (idk how to spell)
Once right before a competition I ripped a huge hole in my tights, it was almost the size of the front of my thigh. I just grabbed my hairspray and stuck my tights right to my leg 😂 it worked though
Your super pretty
I'm not allowed to use rosin at my studio, so what else could I use to keep my shoes on??
Peyton. Cake's hairspray

I started ballet when 13 and I caught up quickly with extra help , try to find a studio walking distance so your parents don't have to worry xx
If your starting dance, its never too late. However, ballet schools generally take their latest intake at 14 (I think)
I would 100% recommend doing teen open classes if you can find a studio that has them. If you do that for a while you might be able to join the school permanently:)

you need to keep your nails cut short. toe tape on the tops of your toes until it heals.
Could you make a video about wearing underwear with costumes, that would be very useful
the foam breast pads that sometimes come with leotards make useful customised toepads, wedges etc.
I have noticed that my pointe shoes are dying a lot quicker than they should. I have Gaynor Mindens which are supposed to last long, but I have only worn them a few times and they are already semi dead. Does anyone have any tips??

More of this Videos please (hope you unterstand I'm from Germany :) )
+YourSocialnetwork Yes! Thank you!
You can also hairspray your Bobby pins before you put them in, and they'll not only stay, but kind of catch the loose pieces along the way!
I'm not sure if a video was made, but can you make one based on how cyber schooling can help you further your training? (Or not? Your opinion!)
I was taught to put nail polish on runs
what video editor do you use?
+DanceGirl123097 Final Cut Pro X
The bobby pin hack: it will stay even better if you spray the pin with hair spray just before you put in in your hair, and remember: the wavy side down.
+Fatima Witick Great tip Fatima!
I need help from anybody!! Suggestions on how to make ur pointe shoes less slippery when dancing on a surface that u can not use rhosin on?!?!
Some dancers like to take an exacto knife and scratch the sole of their shoe for traction. You can darn the tips of your shoes too
I like to darn my entire tip and where it goes to the top of the sole, and also OPI brand nail Polish rubberized base coat is great for traction on both the tip and the soles.
+Anika Meisel That will actually make it too sticky a lot of the time and can stain so i wouldn't recommend. Plus, since it is so sticky, dirt/dust will cling to the tips of your shoes making it even more slippery
Water
Do you have any tricks to keep your shoes on your heels if your stage doesn’t allow Rosin?
Cait Elizabeth spray hair spray on your hands and rub it into the shoe and your heels.
She looks like simplynailogical
Beanie.Girl nah
I've always thought that! Except I started watching her before I started watching Cristine, but still
I always put clear nail polish on the hole in my tights. Works better for me. Haha.
What is rosen
Emiko Shimozawa I always use it for tap shoes it is like yellow popping candy that when you stand on it it goes white and ps don't eat it... ♥
Where is a good cheap place to get a Long sleeved body suit
+Maile Davis Try Discount Dance Supply online
Thank you ❤️😘
Hey Katy
Can you do a video about how to take care of ballerina feet😊
Dear Kathryn, I am 27 years old and I have used bobby pins upside down all my life, apparently. Thanks for finally showing me the right way! Ugh, embarassing!!
+aJazzyFeel Don't worry! I just figured it out not too long ago as well!
0:21 ...
Hydrogen peroxide works on ingrown toenails to it is a life saver
Kathryn Morgan What type of hairspray do you use?
lmao what a "perfect" winged eyeliner 😂
Don't be nasty
Tyler Dun dance makeup is different to normal make up, you need really thick bold liner to make your eyes look bigger. Of course it doesn't look perfect close up hahahaha
Theater makeup has to look good from far away and it doesn't look shitty like that
I agree with others that stage makeup is applied differently than what you'd wear irl. It has to be very bold for the audience to see it.
What's rasining? I probably spelled it wrong, but it's the last hack.
+lisa shen it's using a product called rosin to make your shoes less slippery
Thanks
for blisters i crush baby apsrin and then pour rubbing alcohol and mix it together
I am going to be a great Daley
That wing was really thick lol
It needs to be for stage make-up
Don't use a pencil for eyeliner use a pen / gel with w brush unless you are good enough to use a pencil becuase the eyeliner was literally thick and not perfect at all
Let’s be honest we’re all here from married at first sight
Bobby pin hack is a lie whenever I put it with bumps down they fall out immediately
i need help standing on my toes.
Don't do it if you don't have point shoes! Go to a teacher and ask them for help. That way you won't get hurt!
