    I bought the NY0085 early this year for 180 Euros, and since then it's my daily beater. All my other watches in the collection are criminally neglected. 🙂
    I love the look, the toughness, the reliability, the legibility and the precision (around +2 Seconds/24h). Besides the diver's extention on the clasp i don't really like the horrible factory bracelet, so i swapped it with rubber or leather (it looks awesome on a James Bond Nato, too). Last week i got the islander stainless steel bracelet (back in stock the time i write the comment) in Jubilee Style and it's absolutely stunning (unfortunately without diver's extention). I'm not bothered with the left hand crown, on the contrary, it gives the watch the tool watch vibes it deserves.
    Great affordable watch.

    This is a great watch for the price, it wears really well. Yes the bracelet is a bit lightweight, but the micro-extension more than makes up for that. It's also as tough as old boots, mine has taken lots of punishment and just keeps going.

    • @NordicWatchChannel

    I think citizen watches are under rated, the dial design is a classic and they get credit for colour matching the date wheel, sadly they lose points for the bracelet, although my Kamasu bracelet isn’t a breeze either, lack of sapphire Crystal is a shame

    • @NordicWatchChannel
      @NordicWatchChannel  2 года назад +3

      Yeah the bracelet is always where you can really tell the affordability of the watch. Many of these models are really solid otherwise, and I think it’s fine to save on the bracelet since there is such a large aftermarket for them! Sapphire would be better, but not so common at this price!

      The generally use mineral crystals as they don't shatter as easily. The were pushing real divers using their watches not like most of us. The new models have started using sapphire however.

    Citizen is quite it’s own creature. They offer good quality watches that often gets unnoticed due to some design quirks. But what’s amazing is that while Seiko has nerfed their SKX diver and raised the price, Citizen has lately improved their divers and at times even lowered the price.

    This video is very good. Now, what is the difference between the NY0084-089EE reference watches and the NY0040-09EE reference? I bought a watch with this last indication and noticed that the silicone strap is a little harder and less soft. Furthermore, the adjustment button, which is located at position 8 on the clock, does not have the Pro Master logo. It seems to be a little simpler than the NY0084 model.

    • @NordicWatchChannel
      @NordicWatchChannel  Месяц назад

      Well having a quick look at it it seems that the first reference is the green colorway and on comes on a metal bracelet while the latter one is the black colorway on a rubber strap. Those seem to be the main differences. And yes I agree, the first one seems a bit more refined cosmetically.

    • @NordicWatchChannel
      @NordicWatchChannel  Год назад

      Ah, that’s a very nice variant! It really does punch above it’s weight. Especially on a nato strap. That way you get rid of the bracelet, which is maybe the only aspect that reminds of it’s price.

  • @whatsstefon
    @whatsstefon 2 года назад +3

    Love mine. When the Seiko world goes crazy with SKX’s, this is still a good dive watch at a price Seiko fans wish they could pay for an SKX. Sure, there’s no sapphire, but that’s better for diving as mineral doesn’t shatter, so the desire for sapphire is really for the desk divers. Hacking can be useful for when you might want to sync the watch up to atomic time once a month or something.

    • @NordicWatchChannel
      @NordicWatchChannel  2 года назад +1

      I know! This is such a great deal compared to the SKX with the prices today. And the SKX doesn’t have sapphire either so personally, the only thing I prefer with the SKX is the jubilee bracelet.

    Good review! I love these Citizen NY00xx models! I have the Pepsi and the green one! I'm also thinking of adding the Coke and the Full lume one to the collection too.
    I think these are objetively better than the SKX and still available in the market, although tougher to find in American market, mostly in Europe, but still available online at reasonable prices ($180 - $250).
    I also have the Kamasu, which I enjoy a lot too, but these Promasters are very cool!

    • @NordicWatchChannel
      @NordicWatchChannel  2 года назад +2

      Thank you! That’s awesome, I love the look of the green one!👌🏻 And yeah, if you tally up the specs for this model and an SKX, the Citizen does come out on top. And to be real, the SKXs are going for twice the price of this. Kamasu is nice too! I made a review of mine last year👍🏻

      Nice video. Have four Kamasus; two Mako USA II, and 3 of the Citzens (blue, full lume, and Kermit). Love them all. Will buy this Coke version today. I have a nice aftermarket bracelet with solid end links for the two NY0040, which came with rubber straps-even the jeweler made a nice comment. But I prefer the stock Citizen bracelet, because of the promaster logo and Citizen branding, the divers’ extension, and especially the light weight. (Recall reading that hollow end links can be a safety feature when diving, because they will give away before the person’s hand does.) So for a tool watch, is quite serviceable As far as I am concerned, especially for the price of course.

    Today I received this watch. The bracelet was a new experience for me, but after a while struggle I figured it out! It's a bit budget feeling over it but it's ok.
    The contrast between the deep black dial and the cromed edges and white area of the hour markers makes it looking awesome.
    While the bezel is not something I use to care much about, I find it perfect. No backplay and it perfectly aligns to the hour markers on the dial.
    Not to forget the lume! I think it's Seiko class.
    For the price (1998 SEK) I am very satisfied with this watch.
    By the way: it's interesting how even a small color dot can impact the total impression of a watch. The 1/4 red on the bezel gives the watch another nice look.

    Ношу уже месяц и хочу сказать, что это оказалось идеальным дайвером для меня - они не такие огромные, как skx, зеленый Базель выглядит очень сдержанным и почти черным, но не таким скучным, как просто черный, они компактнее чем skx и не такие острые и угловатые как submariner, при этом у них очень красивый эмалевый циферблат, и я даже не хочу менять родной браслет, хоть он и дешевый, но выглядит неплохо, хорошо отполированный и самое главное - это опция удлинителя - самая удобная штука из всех, какие у меня были. И еще огромный плюс это заводная голова справа, я ношу часы на левой руке и ничего не вгрызается в запястье. В общем эти часы я точно не хочу снова на что-то менять и уже не уверен, что мне нужны другие. А всякие приколы типа сапфира и керамики это совершенно не обязательно и не главное

It should have a diameter of 35-38mm and a maximum of 45mm lug to lug, have sapphire glass, 5-10bar, max. 10mm high and a quartz movement or solar with at least 5 years battery life. In terms of price, I imagine around €300. Visually, it should be sporty but also minimalistic. optics such as a gs 263 or rolex op / explorer1 or an omega aqua terra or something in the direction of the Bauhaus style. I think they make toolish field watches and also quartz versions. I remember them having a 38mm model with great specs regarding durability and WR, maybe check them out? There are of course a LOT of options and that's part of the reason why it's hard to come up with something specific. Maybe take a few brands and start browsing their catalogs!

      Well there are probably hundreds so it’s a bit difficult without knowing if you have other brand preferences than the specs!
      Hamilton, Certina, Steinhart, Orient, Seiko, Christopher Ward to name a few (more or less) mainstream brands. Then there are the so-called microbrands and it’s best to just google for ”20 best microbrand watches” or something. I’m not really that well informed about them.

      I actually learned the "right way" to change the date! You're not supposed to turn it "around" but only rock it back and forth. So twist the crown until the date wheel starts moving, and then twist it back. The day switches even though you don't turn it trough. I understand that this is the correct way to operate this movement!

      I think it’s refreshing! But maybe they could make a 4 o’ clock version too😂

      Someone said at 8 o'clock it's safer from being struck by a rock while diving because the crown is towards you
