Well said Rachel. People have a variety of reason to not drink, and your friends and colleges preferences should be respected. I know some people who are allergic to alcohol and they still feel pressured to drink, in the states. Just order virgin cocktails, or ask bartenders to serve you water and make them look like mixed drinks. After I have had one or two alcoholic drinks and don't feel like drinking anymore I often switch to these. Alcohol dehydrates the body, so drinking fruit juice and water actually helps you recover from your hangover faster than those that keep drinking. Having safe fun, being respectful and healthy smart while drinking should be the cultural norms we press on our friends and team mates.

Can't someone go for a drink, yet order a "virgin" drink or just a soda? The US used to be like this, pressuring to drink until there were so many accidents/deaths and alcoholism. Yes, there is still pressure in the US, but most good people understand if you don't drink. ❤😊

Drinking should always be a matter of choice. Also, non-alcoholic beverages exist! And last I checked, Korean mixologists are extremely competent with making non-alcoholic cocktails like mojitos and that one with the delicious mango juice 😋

A person- at least where I live- is able to get water, soda, juice, snacks/food at a bar instead of alcohol. I used to have a binge drinking problem- yet God, Jesus, and His Holy Spirit helped me with that struggle- and I definitely made unwise choices when drunk, and put my life, and others' lives, at risk. In more than 2 years I've had less than 20 drinks (on different occasions, like one here, a couple there, half a drink about on New Year's Eve for example, and the most alcohol I had in a day was a smirnoff can- 8% I think- which equaled 4 drinks which I had with a meal over a course of around 2 hours last year). This year alone I had less than 2 drinks, last year around 14 drinks, and 1 drink in 2022, approximately. I usually stuck to 1-2 drinks on average in a whole day. Anyway, I am not personally against drinking 1 drink with a meal, but overall I avoid alcohol just in case I start trying to escape my problems through drinking. I'm not telling people to drink- or not drink; each person's situation is different. What I know is Jesus drank wine- with meals for example- and never abused alcohol, while His cousin John the Baptist didn't drink any alcohol. It is a preference, and has to do with self-control and responsibility, also. If a person lacks self-control already, and is irresponsible and reckless then adding alcohol to the mix/equation/situation/their life is unwise. Of course, I speak from my past choices, sins, and struggles. God's helped me a lot over these years, but I still want to further improve, and hiding behind a 'state of escape' will not help me change for the better, to be a mature woman of God.

When I got/get off work, I Loved my work friends, but when my work was over I was the first one out the door never hob-knobbed (American slang for not hanging around with people) around, I SEEN MY WORK FRIENDS ENOUGH FOR THAT DAY, After work IS MY TIME, FOR ME, MY HOBBIES, RELAXING enjoying " MY WORLD " I will see them all tomorrow, AND WEEKENDS ARE MINE, Unless I want to hang etc, BUT SOMETIMES for a meal together or hookup I give in, I LIKE TO DO/GO/LEAVE on MY TERMS, When I go see family I can't hang longer than 2 hours and that's max BUT THATS ME

I don't know what else I can contribute toward this topic. It should be up to individual' s choice whether to drink and quantity. I frankly, do not understand what is so cool of drinking oneself to an oblivion?! The more one drinks heavy alcohol the more chances one will develop liver and gastrointestinal cancer. Those who might be prediabetic will end up with the severe diabetes. All leads to momentum mortem .

Rachel , on the subject of drinking 😊. Just take a drink, right ,do the toast and sip a little or pretend you are drinking . You cannot please everyone. Common sense must prevail. What if u are alcohol intolerant ?

Yep, don’t have to drink and it’s ok to say no. Sometimes it’s just about spending time with your friends too, and don’t have to drink to have a good time! For me, it’s about having food and trying to laugh with others 😄

I hear the soju is sweeter in Korea, fresh, like it came from the nipple of Mother nature herself. Am I right Rachel?
