      Would things help if you pretty much own your own van....?

    • @zeldaglitchgamer
      @zeldaglitchgamer 3 года назад

      What is a good type of van to accommodate 4-5 people plus the equipment. We are a tribute show looking for a good vehicle to transport lighting, sound and video equipment. Also, would it be safe to say that in some circumstances it would be cheaper to take a flight rather than to drive?

    From a “fan” point of few I always like it when band members approached us to start conversations either at gigs or via social media, getting to know band members more always makes me keen to listen to their music more and share and support them x

      Laura-Jane Neagle Yeah I think it’s better for band members to approach fans! & I always enjoy getting to know people at gigs & going out after :)

    Boyfriend's girlfriend's partners... Just say it like it is, we are there to do a job.. It may be one of the coolest most enjoyable jobs anyone can have, however it can get hectic at times we don't need that added stress. We don't go to there jobs and breathe down there neck and put them down for not spending time with them.. we don't need it either.. also great point about bands sticking around, FUCKING STAY... you never know what you'll miss, we stuck around after a local show and after the show when everyone went home onr of the touring bands asked us on the rest of their tour because one of the supporting bands had an accident and had to pull out. We would have missed that opportunity had we just left.

    Great video, as always, Rob. Excellent tips that would make things run smoothly & I think it’s great that most UK bands get along & are totally cool, it’s not often that way in the US.

    Great vid Rob! Just a couple of tips to add for touring bands ... Never book breakfast at a hotel. Find a local Greggs shop ... they do a breakfast sandwich and a coffee for about £3.50 up till 11am. Also, if you want a really good meal find a Toby Carvery, a full home cooked roast meal for about £8!! Also, drummers, sort out some really worn crap sticks for when fans ask for your sticks ... I've had crew give away some of my new sticks before now!! Hope that helps!

    Touring is the best community builder ever. The Arkhams used to tour with Al And The black Cats, Soul Reapin 3, Goddamn Gallows, Memphis Morticians, Hypnophonics, Slanderin, Limit Club, Tracer Bullet, Turbo ACs, season of nightmares, Tiger Piss and Sasquatch & The sickabillies. Those bands were inseparable for many years

    What is the best way to transfer par equipment (lights, haze machine, etc)? I am part of a Michael Jackson tribute act and we are looking to start our first tour. The trouble is that my co star lives in a different state. Any advice is appreciated.

    • @RobGalley
      @RobGalley  4 года назад +2

      zeldaglitchgamer I used to work in a venue that had a lot of tribute acts come in. Just some decent padded flight cases, perhaps ones with wheels if you’ve got a lot of stuff to minimise movement, should be the best approach!

    What amps do you use on tour? Also would it be reasonable to bring a 2x12 instead of a 4x12

    • @RobGalley
      @RobGalley  4 года назад +3

      Nick if anything a 2X12 would be better. 4x12s are just a bit unnecessary these days unless you’re playing huge venues

    • @theiranxican7412
      @theiranxican7412 4 года назад +1

      Hey man, even a real good and punchy 1x12 cab can do the job no problem! The look at of it seems underwhelming but its gonna be mic'ed up anyway. All preference in the end.
      Me I just run direct with my rack unit and in ears and be sufficient enough. But that's just me.

    • @Nick-me1ms
      @Nick-me1ms 4 года назад +1

      The Iranxican I would do that but I don’t have the money for in ears ahah

    • @ScottyWiard
      @ScottyWiard Год назад

      Replying a bit late, but my band runs all direct. No amps/cabs aside from the bass amp. Our Helixes and the direct out for the bass go into our IEM box, we bring our own mics. All the house has to do is plug in our tails, mic the drums, and put the faders up. Our monitors are self mixed and we don’t run drum mics in our monitors (we use a trash mic we put on the floor next to the kit). Saves set up/tear down time, saves sound check time, and probably most importantly, saves space in the trailer.

    No fast food !!! Buy at Supermarket sales , if you can even maybe cook , do it yourself !!! I lived on elbow noodles and ragu sauce with sometimes weiners or sausage for protein for 3 month's for 10 dollars a week , cooked on a hot plate . 18 years later I built a $50,000 studio in 2005 !!! The road isn't mama's basement !!! Just an observation

    How long should a band exist before touring?

    • @RobGalley
      @RobGalley  4 года назад +3

      Nick really depends on the band but I wouldn’t try to do a headline tour if you’ve never played anywhere other than your home town. I’d recommend getting a tour support slot with a bigger band with a bigger following ✌️ spend a good bit of time doing a few of those tours to get used to it!
