Because she is his daughter, her Dad was able to force her to leave and gave her a lot of money which she gets rid of almost immediately after she arrives in the states. It seems to me that her dad has all along planned to commit suicide because of a crime his wife and her mom (who doesn't even like her daughter) has committed. Her dad does not want his daughter or He Yichen to be exposed to alll the fallout and shame. I have watched this series three times and this last time is the first time I began to understand what a wonderful dad he was trying to be and wanted to be. Zhao Mosheng's dad had great admiration for He Yichen. Her dad did not make the decisions that had such a horrific impact on He Yichen' and his mom and dad. I don't know that I even know truly understand just exactly what her mom did in a deceptive way that led to all the pain in He Yichen's life as he grew up. But Zhao Mosheng's mom played a behind the scenes role in it and makes the awful comment about God punishing the right people thus implying that He Yichen's dad deserved what happened when the contractor who had been paid by Zhao Mosheng's dad kept the money and did not pay He Yiching's dad for the work he did as the sub contractor. Her mom is one of those people who can do unethical things and still talk about herself as if she is above everyone else on the matter of king the right thing, making the right choices.
