Thank you for posting this. Thats me at 36:39 19yrs old sitting next to my late father, Chris Parry, as he accepts the award for Best Lighting for The Who's Tommy
@ yeah Tim I do. I was showing appreciation for posting this video because it includes footage of my father that killed himself in 2007. If you haven’t lost a close family member suddenly, you wouldn’t understand the need to hold onto every photo, scrap of video, even hand written notes from them because they are gone forever and that is all that remains of them.
@@richparry8734 I'm really sorry for your loss. I've experienced same with close friends and that was plenty hard enough. These recordings of the Tonys are gems, and I'm glad that you get to see a triumphant moment for your Dad that you got to share with him.
Thank you SO much for all of these Tony Award shows! ~ I was at several of them, including this one (and it's dress rehearsal) - Liza was always the BEST host ~ and she never failed to ask that house lights be turned up at the end and she thanked US, the AUDIENCE for coming to support the show - Class act, Liza!!
Once again, thank you, thank you, MissPoochSmooch for posting all these Tony Award shows. For the record, the one award missing from this video is the award for the Best Score (Music & Lyrics): there was a tie between John Kander & Fred Ebb for Kiss of the Spider Woman and Pete Townshend for The Who's Tommy.
this is the shortest Tony ceremony I've ever seen -- the speeches are why I watch, and when the artists are cut short it sort of defeats the purpose of having this kind of celebration!
This was the year they started doing the easy open tablets rather than those difficult envelopes kind of wish the Oscars would follow suit oh hi actress that replaced Maggie Roswell on the Simpsons for two years okay so who was the guy in crutches and how did it happen? (okay I guess that's Tommy Tune so how did he end up in crutches) so I guess the next year was the first year they split the revival categories in two I wish the sound hadn't cut out when they brought Agnes out because I couldn't hear who Liza was introducing (I'm not gong to do the RIP thing anymore, too many people have left since then including Brent Carver last year (this post was originally done in December 2021) and most recently Chita Rivera and James Earl Jones man I can't even think about how they managed to get lighting done 100 years before this show Don't worry Natasha, you'll get yours in 1998 This show had a record number of backstage appearances 1:08:51 holy hair Don't worry Martin you'll get yours in 1999 (oddly enough he was up against Carver that year as well) man Roy Cohn must have been such a PITA towards the end (I wonder if that's where he who must not be named got it from) yeah I too thought "Wrong final"

I'm so glad you've uploaded all of these! It's so great to see the evolution of Broadway and watch such talented performers from the last 50 years
Agnes De Mille at 28:22! Thank you for posting this. Please keep it up!
This program won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Variety or Music Program.
when Liza made the comment about the speeches I thought she was joking! Gosh it all seemed so rushed!
