I'm watching this video again after seeing it 6 months ago, you can see how much Oliver has improved since he came home. It always makes me sad when they mention Colt, he was a beautiful boy, gone too soon... 😔😔 This is Oliver's first swim, he doesn't know what to do, what a sweet boy.

What a brilliant way to have the horse experience ridership for the first time!!! You could really be on to something here!!! The playing in the water first and then slowly moving to higher ground so the feel of the rider's weight is gradual and not as sudden is so much better for the horse. Coming out of the water, bareback is so much more organic and calm compared to slapping on 60lbs of hard leather and then adding a 200 lb rider which immediately affects balance and freedom of head... it is a shock to their system. Oliver was having a great "first experience" of something new to him. He learned how to swim and carry a rider all in the short space of time! Not once did he rear up, neigh in fear, try to run... he was just hanging out and taking it all in. I also feel that having the interaction of children in this scenario lessened the fears a bit... horses love children and are very protective... so having them on his back became a natural instinct as opposed to a force one. This was incredible to watch!!! What a beautiful and meaningful adventure for not only Oliver, but the family as well. Good Times!!

My goodness OLIVER is really starting to fill out & look like he should. Still has a little way to go mainly on his hind quarters but he doesn't look anything like what he did when you first brought him home. He looked so sad & sick back then. Now he is unrecognizable to that poor little near death angel that you rescued just in the nick of time!! Bravo!!! WELL DONE OLIVER & H.H.
JR, Even just walking up to his chest is great exercise for Oliver. He doesn't necessarily have to swim to help him build up those back legs and back muscles after his bout with EPM. @@jenniferlehman326 I absolutely agree with you. One step at a time, gently gently with Oliver is definitely going to be more beneficial. He’s only 2 and just a baby, let him grow and heal fully before riding him. I’m not taking anything away from JR, his care of Oliver is absolutely mind blowing. His veterinary treatment, complete commitment to Oliver, the obvious love he has for his boy. He couldn’t be in better hands, he’s absolutely beautiful and healing so well. I’m just not agreeing with backing horses when they are still babies and still growing. I’m the first to say how incredible JR’s horses look and praise him on his devotion, I’m just sad that he backs them too soon. 😔
@Dream Catcher Especially with Clydesdales, they can start pulling light, very light loads at 2, but ridden work shouldn't be done, in my experience with draft breeds, until they are at least 4. This allows the growth plates to totally solidify in their legs at that age. But that's just been my experience. Best Regards, Jenn 💖

It is so true about children. Even foals notice kids as children and will approach a kid when scared of adults

@@jenniferlehman326 I absolutely agree with you. One step at a time, gently gently with Oliver is definitely going to be more beneficial. He’s only 2 and just a baby, let him grow and heal fully before riding him.
I’m not taking anything away from JR, his care of Oliver is absolutely mind blowing. His veterinary treatment, complete commitment to Oliver, the obvious love he has for his boy. He couldn’t be in better hands, he’s absolutely beautiful and healing so well. I’m just not agreeing with backing horses when they are still babies and still growing.
I’m the first to say how incredible JR’s horses look and praise him on his devotion, I’m just sad that he backs them too soon. 😔
@Dream Catcher Especially with Clydesdales, they can start pulling light, very light loads at 2, but ridden work shouldn't be done, in my experience with draft breeds, until they are at least 4. This allows the growth plates to totally solidify in their legs at that age. But that's just been my experience. Best Regards, Jenn 💖

Oliver is such a gentle fellow...Amazing how he took to the water like a pro..Love the spring fed river and being in Missouri no Gators to bother you or the horses..

Oliver looks amazing. He did not seem to be bothered by weight on his back at all. He would be such a fantastic therapy horse. It looks like he is very gentle with kids. You will be blessed for what you have done in rescuing this boy. Beautiful job. I hope you keep him forever. He and Souix will have big strong babies one day. So exciting!
