putting pressure on the pawn, trading away the only protection, then not taking, straight into not defending the skewer and donating a queen, marvelous
For the longest time I didn't realize that the website names the opening moves at the top, so I always assumed that when NL would say "Our opponent is going with the Leonardo Bernacci Defense, accelerated second Sicilian variation" I thought he was making stuff up and honestly it was like 100% funnier to me. Now it's like finding out your favorite magic trick isn't real.
2 minutes in and NL has manufactured a series of blunders kickstarted by missing the most intuitive bishop block on the skewer, leading him to believe his queen was lost. A true agent of chaos
It wasn't even a skewer because the skewer doesn't work. I still think white is better with Bf5 but it doesn't lead to the loss of a queen for nothing in return.
PLEASE analyze losing games those are so entertaining and interesting to see. You're a much, much, much better chess player than I am so seeing where you made mistakes in games is super educational as well as fun
Your content got me into chess after what, 20 years? I'm definitely not that good but that just means I'm learning something from your vids. Keep the chess content, it's great.
That first game is one of the greatest games I've ever seen, so many swings for seemingly no reason. You never could quite tell where it was going to go.
NL actually learned a bit since last time he played against the sicilian, granted the guy he was playing now wasnt as tough as the previous one but still
Yknow, its late and I'm really tired but can't get sleep. I started thinking through my options on how ill fall to sleep, first I was like "oh ill just watch some one piece" that didn't work, then maybe I'd hop on valorant but the screams of the dammed gamers kept me up, then I went to youtube...and I found...you! NL playing the oldest game of all time has put me right to sleep! Thank you NL!!!
Northernlion's ability to go from 1000 IQ genius to the worst chess player on earth in a matter of moments makes for some of the tensest viewing on RUclips,
Hey nl, don’t know if you read these, but I highly recommend the smith-Morra if you don’t know what to do against sicilians. It’s 2 d4 cxd4 3 c3 dxc3 Nxc3. You gambit a juicer, but development is super fast and it’s easy to see good moves
It's so crazy being 300 rating worse than Ryab but when I'm watching him I see better moves than him, yet when I play myself, I am significantly worse. I guess that's the beauty of playing and jumping in and out of paying close attention to the play without any of the pressure of actually playing. I also mean no disrespect, I'm aware it's much harder to play while trying to be entertaining.
Doubled-up rooks. Trading queens. Forgetting how the bishop moves and getting your most important pieces skewered. When the egg is meeting you on the 64 squares, we pull out all the stops and justify all methods.
Not trying to backseat the content too much, but how come NL doesnt play 3 | 2 time control? I feel like he would have a lot more success because you arent just going to get insta-flagged if you find yourself in a complicated position you want to think about. In 3 | 2 you can actually crawl back. Could be incredibly entertaining and lead to some gourded pogs
He's addressed this in the past, with the justification that "good players play on interval, and I only want to play against bad players." I don't know how accurate this is overall, but I'm a very bad player who plays on interval, so that does count against his contention
@@Jabbersac I thought it was more like "I don't want to be in a situation where my opponent wins cuz of interval even though interval would probably help me more". Paraphrased of course.
@@a2rhombus2 You know the reason, he mostly uses the analysis to look at his good moves so he can feel good about himself. He's pretty open about not caring about getting better.
Please play some Rapids, they allow for better time control skills and you will have more time to think and rant at the same time. love your chess videos!
First game when you lost the queen should of just blocked with the bishop and you’d kept a queen my guy but love the videos but think just a little more about minor pieces when major pieces are attacked
The real shame of that first game is that someone had to win it
In reality we've all lost for witnessing it
@@Gabu_ speak for yourself I'm pogging

he missed the win by taking on e3 and his queen literally wasn't in danger at all
For the longest time I didn't realize that the website names the opening moves at the top, so I always assumed that when NL would say "Our opponent is going with the Leonardo Bernacci Defense, accelerated second Sicilian variation" I thought he was making stuff up and honestly it was like 100% funnier to me. Its still really funny tho as he doesnt understand anything about the variations
That first game... It looked like my games, and I'm at 700. NL and his opponent simultaneously lost 50% of their chess skill somehow, it was beautiful
Ayyy sub 1k gang unite.
Whenever NL do move that I first thought is the best move I know it's a mistake or a blunder lol
he's trolling us at this point with the 3 min
That game was so painful to watch
1500s don’t just play 1500 quality moves every move. They play like 2200s 80% of the time and then like 700’s the other 20
@@huckthatdish Huh? Those ratios seem a little off
"My new strat is trade pieces." Ryan, that's always been your strat
THAT FIRST GAME HAD ME ROLLING
Thank you NL for these chess moments. I can relate heavily.
"On 7 seconds I can win this"
*Spends 3 seconds deciding where to move his queen*
2 minutes in and NL has manufactured a series of blunders kickstarted by missing the most intuitive bishop block on the skewer, leading him to believe his queen was lost. A true agent of chaos
It wasn't even a skewer because the skewer doesn't work. I still think white is better with Bf5 but it doesn't lead to the loss of a queen for nothing in return.
Followed by choosing not to analyze that game and catch it too
He also could have blocked the bishop with his rook, a worse move than blocking with the bishop, but far better than what he chose to do
These videos are opening my eyes to the world of chess in ways that The Queen's Gambit never could.
Holy shitttt NL premoving the pawn 7 times and then it just getting insta-taken had me cackling.
NL makes any second knight move “I love this outpost for my knight”
Please do longer time controls, would give some much more room for pog commentary and game development!
How would he and his opponent hang 7 pieces in a row, then?
Hes just so much better on tighter time controls lol
Agreed 100%.
@@More_Row nice meme
I would've thought so but 3min seems to be working really well, maybe not super accurate but it's still pretty good and really fun.
Always a pleasure to see a new chess content upload
ah, fellow chess enjoyer I see.
I love when I'm able to predict what Ryan is going to say.
"Am I crazy?"
Love the chess content as always, but I wish I loved anything as much as my fellow Egg likes doubling his rooks for little to no reason
Find someone who loves you as much as NL loves trading his queen
As someone who peaked at chess in grade school, I just double rooks and put knights on outposts for their own sake, no other reason is necessary.
This is my favorite content on RUclips right now. I would love to see a return to 10 minute time controls some day :).
PLEASE analyze losing games those are so entertaining and interesting to see. You're a much, much, much better chess player than I am so seeing where you made mistakes in games is super educational as well as fun
I’ve been loving this chess content my guy, been fun to watch
I enjoy these chess videos and I hope they continue for a while. It's nice just to see like, a guy, just playing chess.

Literally have not laid my hands upon a chess piece since I was 10 years old but NL has me thinking I could get into this
I can assure you it doesn't move like a horse.
You get a like right away for trying to move the rook like the knight that's the content I show up for you beautiful egg
That first game is one of the greatest games I've ever seen, so many swings for seemingly no reason. You never could quite tell where it was going to go.
Hey Ryan, can you do game reviews on losing games? Thanks
He can't because then he'll actually learn and not make the same mistakes over and over.
that last game was a super fun rollercoaster ty for the vid :)
A second later...
*opponent blunders*
their like 'you're a genius'
Can someone please submit the first game to Gotham for Guess the ELO?

opponent blunders queen and resigns: lets analyze how good i did

Worrying about bishop pair advantage and pawn structures when he's dropping queens and rooks... I love you Enel.
Old NL would run out of time in a ten minute game, new NL decides three minute games are more efficient

What the FUCK was that first game
Holy BRSH the queen is freakin strong in this game! ☺
I'm only halfway through the first game but I just gotta say...what the fr*ck is goin on here
Blunders and banter on a Sunday yes please
Excuse any chess idiocy from me, but at 2:20 could NL not have blocked the skewer with his rook instead of sacrificing his queen?
Better yet; just block it with the bishop he just moved
I just saw that and was just really disappointed in him
Could've blocked it with his bishop even
Correct but he won't learn that because he never does analysis of lost games for some reason

Definitely think that NL has revoked his 1000+ membership card with that first game.
That first game was a legit 600 elo game from both players, and I don't think I'm flattering the 600s in chat.
Streamer! Put the chess videos in the chess playlist! Come on! Many people are saying this!
Please someone submit the first game to guess the elo for gothamchess
NL made some good moves with his rook. I mean the chess piece, and not the bird which is the only bird to share a name with a chess piece. Yup, rook.
I yelled at my screen that first game
That ending holy shit😭😭😂😂
Honey wake up pogged chess content has dropped
The rook doubler has logged on
I lost it at "I'm actually crazy."
That first game might have given me cancer and a aneurysm all at the same time....
That first game was glorious!
agree that increment would be nice sometimes
That first game was wild!
Everyone's already commenting about the first game but my god can't you just hear Levy yelling at NL and his opponent for their performances there lol
Game 1 I cry everytime
u rocking the chess my guy
Love your chess content ♥️
Ayo that fist game has to go on Guess The Elo on GothamChess channel
The pain of seeing NL throw away his queen instead of stopping the skewer with his bishop..... A mistake so often made when one thinks they blundered
The stress of narrating his own game led to the most amazing first game
Don't mind me. Just indulging in some incredible chess content.
Begging NL to play longer than 3 minute games, losing or winning to time is really lame
Great job NL! More 10 minute!
The first game was like having a stroke
Maybe some movements can be done better. But overall it is good and informative
Thanks for vid, Ryan Gary Chess

Am I crazy or is that, "Screwer" at 2:15 easily blocked with Bf5?
The sad thing is that Dan would still say you're a GM after viewing that first game.

I'm liking and commenting every chess video so we maybe can get more chess! Pog!
It ain't Fischer-Spassky but it is very entertaining.
