How to program your old Directv remote without a receiver

Thos is how to program your old directv remote thats been collecting dust for years to a flat screen tv. Or any tv rather. I have Magnavox tv and it works! Tired of getting up to change the volume? Heres the steps. I do not currently have a directv receiver so this os only to be used for my volume and power buttons. Still awesome though.
Step 1. Hold down MUTE and SELECT. Watch for green light to flash twice
Step 2. Enter 991 two flashes Enter 1 two flashes again
Step 3. Hit Channel Up buttpn with a 1 second pause in between until your tv turns off.
Step 4. Wait for tv to turn off and hit SELECT
Step 5. After select button try your power /on buttons and volumes

Sir I used 30 codes 2 times. It was very sick awful and crazy I then googled and found like 150 more codes. Then I searched on RUclips to find more codes. Then I did a search to Program a direct TV with no codes. Within 1 minute I was done. Wow thank you sir. You just got another subscriber 👍

Bless still works, you can also program av2 the same way by sliding over the switch and hitting 2 after the 991 pin

This was finally the answer I was looking for! THANK YOU. Now that the remote is programmed, Can you tell me why my tv screen has a black NO SIGNAL box bouncing around on it? I have to physically remove the firestick power from the outlet, count to 20, plug it back in for the tv to see it. Using the Input on remote does nothing. Using the Home button on Firestick remote does nothing. I hope you can help.

For those of you who know your TV code from the DirectTV look-up tool ( www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/remote_codes2 ):
Hold SELECT and MUTE until the green light flashes twice.
Enter your code. The light should flash twice again.
That's it!

Correct way turn tv off first > 911 > 1 > volume down till tv turns on, once it’s on > hold select till it blinks twice
