Respect the criminal code | Andrew Gason | TEDxMelbourne

  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Andrew was the hardest criminal around yet integrating back into society was his hardest journey of all.
Imagine a world where all youth and community groups were self-sustainable - independent of government funding, grants, and resources. That’s the founding vision upon which Andrew Gason has built not-for-profit organisation New Civilization Builders Inc.
Andrew’s divergent youth gave him the tools to fruitfully engage with young people on all levels. As a Samoan raised in South Auckland New Zealand, he spent half his life living in the criminal underworld being involved in every crime from burglary to weapon smuggling. The conclusion was prison. In 1998 Andrew was released from jail and started to search for a new direction in life. On October 10, his story will permanently change perspectives on perceived obstacles.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

8.25min IMO the title is not clickbait, you didn't get it. "In the criminal world there is a code of conduct." I think you need to go back and listen to what Andrew said the Criminal code is. I lived by it when I was on the wrong side of the law.
Try applying it to your life: 1) Don't leave your friends in the lurch; back them up 2) Don't harm woman or children 3) Don't steal from poor people.
NOTE: I have seen all three of those trodden underfoot by so-called law abiding citizens. You don't have to be in Jail or have a criminal record to be a crook!

Being german speaking I looked up "criminal code" in Wikipedia. It says: "Typically a criminal code will contain offenses which are recognised in the jurisdiction, penalties which might be imposed for these offenses and some general provisions".
Now the title makes full sense to me after I listened to Andrew. He really has courage and a good heart. I am very happy for him that he could turn his life around. I know how it feels to be worried that the police finds out ones crimes. I got rid of my worries too a long time ago. Thank you for your story.

Great Video. Andrew found his own rehab path. He found what worked for him. Giving back and offering help to others is a powerful elixir for your own needs as well. My only reason for living is to serve someone else, to see them helped, furthered, saved, encouraged, directed. It gives meaning and worth to my miserable existence. Without this is the world, the world is a very hard cold and crass place!!!
