  • Discover the story of the upcoming sequel The Railway Children Return - the follow-up to the beloved British classic The Railway Children.
The Railway Children Return arrives in cinemas July 15th - find out more here: www.therailwaychildrenreturn....
1944 - As life in Britain’s cities becomes increasingly perilous, three evacuee children - Lily (Beau Gadsdon), Pattie (Eden Hamilton) and Ted (Zac Cudby) Watts - are sent by their mother from Salford to the Yorkshire village of Oakworth.
There to meet them on the train station platform are Bobbie Waterbury (Jenny Agutter, reprising her iconic role in the original film), her daughter, Annie (Sheridan Smith), and grandson Thomas (Austin Haynes), and with their help the evacuees are soon settling into their new life in the countryside.
When the children discover injured American soldier Abe (KJ Aikens) hiding out in the railyard at Oakworth Station, they are thrust into a dangerous quest to assist their new friend who, like them, is a long way from home.

...I'm going to Oakworth Station on the KWVR this weekend , to update my photographs of the area - in memory of Bernard Cribbins....'Albert Perks' , who sadly passed away last week. Was he offered a cameo role in this sequel ?

I read he was offered to appear as his character in the film, but he had to pass due to his wife being unwell.

I've read some pretty awful reviews but I think this latest film (most definitely not, or I dont really think meant to be) a sequel, as such, was absolutely magnificent!

Michael Stewart here, Johannesburg, South Africa. I have such deep and fond memories of the original film. Can I please, ask a question? In the name of all that is reasonable and intelligent, WHY, WHY, WHY, is an American locomotive being used in this follow-on movie? What an abominable thought! That, alone, would stop me from watching this movie.

American locos were operating in the UK at the time of the film the class is the S160 and is authentic

The S160 class locomotives were a standard design used by the US Army Transportation Corps (USATC), and shipped to Britain during World War 2 in large numbers ready for the Invasion of France in 1944. Prior to the invasion, they were used by all four of Britain's main railway companies, including the LNER.

Really nice of this film to remind us that American military personnel serving in England had the right to handcuff, detain and attempt to remove from her guardians and not even inform local police that they had arrested (kidnapped) a English child on English soil. Lovely. Remind me again who's side they were on. Yes I know this is a film. But yes, oh yes! History does show that this sort of behaviour did exist with American personnel back then. I wonder if English troops would have been allowed to do the same on American soil? I think not. Then they wonder why some folk have a dim view of them. Please note I'm not trying to start a online row here. Just pointing to History. A lot of the key elements of this film were based on real life events.

The cinematography and look is very flat and washed out compared to the original. This looks like it was made for TV.

Hated it, I'm very old now and usually like films of this genre, taking me back to lovely times, but this parody of previous railway children drags in all that is rotten in our present society, I'm surprised Jenny Agutter had anything to do with it.
